Bill's post
Healthy Holidays and the Spirit of Giving
Dear Friend,
True transformation has as much to do with heart and soul, as it does muscle and mind. That’s why in the Healthy Holiday Challenge I emphasize altruism – making a difference in the lives of others with no direct benefit or specific gain, on the material plane, for ourselves.
There are countless ways that we can go about practicing altruism; one of which is lending a helping hand to a worthy cause. This holiday season, we’re focusing our team effort on two extraordinary organizations that do incredible charity work all year long, and especially during this time of year: The Denver Rescue Mission and The Pacific Garden Mission in Chicago.
The Denver Rescue Mission's chief goal is to meet people at their physical and spiritual points of need. They provide food, shelter, and clothing, along with practical programs of education, recovery, discipline and life-skills with the aim of returning the poor, needy, and homeless to society as self-sufficient, productive citizens. Since 1892, the Denver Rescue Mission has been dedicated to their cause and have helped thousands of individuals and families who oftentimes, through adversity or unforeseen circumstances, have been left homeless, penniless, and in far too many cases, hopeless. When there’s no place left to turn for help, that’s when the Denver Rescue Mission is there. And for 117 years they’ve been there. And with our help, they’ll be able to continue their life-changing work this holiday season and into the future.
So how can we help?
Here’s the plan: Oftentimes, one of the things that changes very conspicuously in our transformation process is our body; specifically, the size of our body. When we let go of a lot of weight and get healthy sometimes we end up with a closet full of clothes that don’t fit. And what we’re looking for with this project are COATS. If you, or someone in your family, or a friend, might have a nice coat or two that doesn't fit or won’t be needed this winter, I'm asking if you would be willing to give it away as a gift. If so, you can send your coat (s) to:
Denver Rescue Mission
1130 Park Avenue West
Denver, 80205
www.denverescuemission.org
When you neatly box up your gift, be sure to put at least a little note in that indicates you’re with the Transformation Team. You might even want to write a card expressing your support of the Mission and what I like to do, is be sure to give my gratitude to the people involved in the charity that are there, working selflessly, day after day, all year long. Every time I’ve supported the Denver Rescue Mission it’s been an uplifting and quality giving experience for me, and I feel like it will be for you too.
This year what I’d like to see is those of us who are west of the Mississippi send our coats to the Denver Rescue Mission and for those east of the Mississippi to our Chicago charity which, since 1877, has been doing the same type of extraordinary work for people in need in that region. Here’s their address:
Pacific Garden Mission
1458 S. Canal Street
Chicago IL 60607
www.PGM.org
Our Transformation Team goal is to collectively contribute 200 good quality coats (100 to each rescue mission) that can be distributed to men, women and children in need, before the last day of December. Together we can do it. I know we can. In fact I'm sending two coats this week along with a handwritten holiday/thank you card. None of us need to take on this responsibility individually or carry the bulk of the burden. Our group's strength and our power to make a difference is in each of us doing our part.
Unfortunately, the need this year is significant. With unemployment and home foreclosures as high as they have been, there are more individuals and families – men, women and children – who simply can’t afford to buy clothes to stay warm this winter. Never under estimate how greatly appreciated your gift will be.
The more we open ourselves to these kinds of “spiritual high point experiences” the more fulfilled we are, the more beautiful life becomes, and according to modern health sciences, we’ll even be physically healthier for it too. Studies from Harvard to Stanford show that people who put compassion in action in their lives have less heart disease, less depression, less stress, as well as more energy and increased quality and quantity of life.
Everybody wins when we give with loving-kindness. It’s so true. And that’s why I’m asking you to please get involved and help out if you can; especially if you've accepted the Healthy Holiday Challenge where the name of the game is transforming our health and happiness from the inside out.
Thank you in advance for doing your part. Together we can make a wonderful difference in the lives of others, and perhaps someday not too far off on the horizon, we can make a wonderful difference in the whole World.
Sincerely,

Bill
P.S. Remember, there are countless ways to help others and give from the heart, today and everyday of the year. But before you give, do your research and make sure that you’re aligning with a reputable charity with a proven track record. That way your donation, and your intention, will go directly to helping the people who really need your support, care, and love.
P.P.S. Here’s a quick video that shows a little more about the Denver Rescue Mission:
Denver Rescue Mission: Welcome from Denver Rescue Mission on Vimeo.

Today my husband and I donated 13 nice coats to the Denver Mission. It makes me smile to think that 13 people will be a little warmer now! Hugs ~Cher
Mailing mine out Bill on Monday~ it was my mothers coat! I cant wait! Love ya Shari~!
Hey Bill, I sent my coat with a friend to donate to a shelter here in Kansas last week. I hope you don't mind. I figured that made more sense than paying to ship it somewhere else. I hope you are meeting your goals there in Denver,. Thanks so much for the great suggestion.
I absolutely love this idea of the Coat Drive! I put a box out at work to collect coats and sent an email to 30 people asking for donations. I will box them up and send them over to the Rescue Mission on Dec 15. Does anyone know if it is only coats or will sweatshirts/fleece also be accepted? Thank you!!
You can count me in.... For Me this all comes back to “The Universal Law Of Recuperation“.. All the Love and Light that will be generated this holiday season gives us all something to look forward to in the upcoming year. John.
This is great! My business is holding our annual coat drive for the needy in our area in addition to supporting Toys for Tots and Adopt-A-Bear. Best of luck to you with Denver & Chicago! ~ Steph
This is so inspiring! I hope I can meet you some day, thank you for all that you do in the community and talk more about transformation.
Checked closet, hit up neighbors and friends -- netted no coats. So I hit Goodwill. No coats. So I hit Savers last night and bought about a half dozen coats -- nice coats -- down linings, etc. -- for about $40. Will get these packaged and sent to Denver this weekend. My observation: it's hard to find coats in Tempe, AZ -- it has been in the 70s and 80s --- Thanks, Bill, for this opportunity to help others as a group.
Hi Bill!!! I love the new running picture on the trail! It looks so happy!
I am so thankful that you have set forth to spirit of giving. You inspired me to move forward with my idea and I have set up a website for needy families and also for families that want to assist. I have had five families ask for help and I feel the spirit of Christmas in a whole new way. Thank you bill for being such an inspiration.
My heart is in the same place for the needy I actually just gave a bunch of clothes to the rescue mission out here but unfortunately do not have any coats. But I will see of any of my family members have any coats and will send them out! The spirit of giving is such an awesome feeling! Anna
7 coats and some warm kids snow pants and mittens are on the way to Denver this afternoon...
I sent one coat today to Denver.
What a great organization to help out! One of the best feelings is giving to those in desperate need. I've always had a special place in my heart for homeless or people who beg. With these harsh economic times, the homelessness is increasing. I love the fact this program will help assist others get back on their feet.
Dale (dmartin0401) has been giving unselfishley. He gave me the swine flu! Thanks Dale. LOL Bill- I love how you lead by example and chose worthy causes that make such a difference for so many people
Bill- Love it, thank you :-) God Bless you Jens
Good cause Bill Thanks, Bill
Sounds great...I've got children's coats and will gather together items from friends and family to send. Thanks for your spirit of giving. Special prayers are going up for all organizations reaching out and helping people this holiday season...together we are stronger!! God bless. Teri
This is a great idea. We do not have any extra coats, I even had to buy something to wear to Denver, (We don't have much call for the type of coats that y'all need in IL and CO where I am in Mississippi.) But I can find some from friends or buy some from either thrift stores or new. Hey, I wear a lot of thrift store clothes, especially as I get smaller in size! Uncle Dave
We will definitely be doing our part in this exercise bill. The kids too! I also have some people on board to donate a pound of food for every pound they loose. I will be donating a can of food for every pound I lose. It would be really great to donate 17 cans of food to Foodbank of the Rockies. ~ Dorie
Thanks, Bill! We are doing similar things here in the Dallas area this week and are so excited to see so many people reaching out! Thanks for being such a significant leader to this Transformation team...Family! With a Smile, Jodie
Dear Bill! - Absolutely, this is a very worthy cause!! I am in the process of pulling out good, warm winter clothes that our family can do without this year. However, it is going to the annual "Coat Drive" here in our little community of Marathon, NY. We are the 5th poorest school district in NY and many families just don't have the means to provide warm winter clothes for their families. Our school is organizing this "Coat Drive". But here is also another idea: At our Library, there is a group of community people, Women AND Men of all ages, who gets together one week a night and crochet warm hats for anybody to come and pick up. While I can't crochet - I can provide the yarn for this group who can! And lastly, every year, our family host a Christmas open house. This year, we ask that all anybody brings, is an item or more of non-perishable food item or paper goods that we then collect and donate to our local food pantry! The food pantry is especially hit up hard this time of year so we'd like to help out! - It is the Season for the Spirit of Giving (isn't it all year - really?). I feel so grateful for this community, that doesn't have much, but give a lot!
Thanks Bill, the Denver Rescue Mission looks like a meaningful organiztion. That's cool the mission helps people physically AND spiritually to empower them to get another chance at life. I'll send a coat and card for sure =)
Yes they sure will Shaydz!! =) Our specific goal is 100 coats to each charity but warm clothes, fleece jackets, and of course donations of money are always put to immediate and good use.
I've been waiting for this announcement as I've been saving my BIG jackets! I've been collecting them from family and neighbors too! Even my daughter has jackets that are too big now thanks to completing her first challenge! I'll be sending ours out to Denver! xoxo Bella
Bill I think 200 coats is gonna add up fast! I have 25 coats and jackets piled up in the basement ready to donate. I was going to give them go Goodwill, but you they are now headed to the Denver Rescue Mission. I will be delivering them myself along with my wife. We will be taking our daughter there also so she can see the "other side" of things. JIm
Good cause Bill...wife and I lived in the Chicago area for a number of years and it gets mighty cool in that part of the country...as Marty will attest to. Kay and I will box them up this weekend. Dennis
I'm sad to say that I don't own any coats save for one! What about fleece jackets? Will those work? I have a couple of those that I would love to give to someone in need but I don't know if it qualifies as a "coat". I'm so touched by your compassion and vision. Thank you! Hugs ~Christin
Hi Bill, I wont send a coat via plane to the US as it would do little for the environment.....but we have a winter blanket appeal here in Tasmania with St Vicent's De Paul....so I have purchased a new thermofleece blanket and I have given it to them this morning. I thanked the staff personally for all they do... They are volunteers and provide a range of assitance from soup kitchens to employment services.... I love the fact you constantly challenge us think outside our normal sphere....you are a good man Bill and I learn from you daily.... Kindest wishes Stuart xxxx 0000(man kisses and hugs from big island down under).
Sounds great Bill! I'm excited to participate in this project.
Ok, great idea! I have some coats bagged up (yes, they are too small now). In 1997 our house burned to the ground. We had nothing. It was the middle of winter. The Salvation Army tracked us down from info about the fire in the paper and gave us coats for free. I will never forget that kindness. This is a great way to pay it back. Thanks for the challenge!
This is perfect! I have a closet filled with coats that are too small (for the record--not mine! --my boys's coats that they've out-grown thank-you very much! LOL! Phew!) and coats that we just don't wear anymore since we no longer live where it gets that cold. Oh, I do have one that I bought last year and it IS too big--yeah!!! Love that I get to keep others warm this winter. Love your heart, Bill, and love all these people in this great community! MWAH! Patty
I think this is a great idea Bill! Between Katrina and myself, we have several coats that are way too big! We would be happy to give them to someone who really needs them! Phillip
Love this Bill! I am gonna dig thru my closet or maybe even buy one for someone if I don't have one. Love you! Val :)
I work at a shelter and warm winter coats are definitely appreciated by the mom's and children. Hats, scarves and boots are also needed. Thanks for all of the inspiration Bill.
Two awesome missions; what a great choice Bill! I used to listen to Pacific Garden's radio dramas where they put a play on with the true stories of people who were helped through the mission. Always very powerful. So glad to be helping.
that's awesome bill. question though do you know a place that would want clothes i could send to. there's lots of clothes i have that i have no idea where to give them to. if you or anyone knows let me know. i have like 3 bags of clothes, and some shoes. - catherine
Bill, This is great! This T.com group is large and can do it! The gift of warmth!! Just last week I donated winter coats, sweaters, pants, shoes down locally, where they are needed. So many of the elderly and poor can’t afford food, heat , required medicines and warm clothes, even in here in Ocala. I’m committed to helping with food donations and clothing locally, and have some personal “special needs elderly” I keep “under my wing” ……but I will try to see if there is something very warm for the Chicago mission I can mail out……I’ll pass the word around at my gym and my cousins up in Michigan. -Terri
Last week I cleared out my closet and donated a lot of jackets and warm winter clothes. There are so many people in need in every geographic area. Thanks Bill
Love Love Love this idea!!! got plenty of stuff that doesn't fit my kids as well---Rachel
These organizations do an excellent work. We'll definitely be supporting this.-------Bob
What A great way to help and organization that has been providing hope and care for 117 years. I have a closet full of coats barely worn. I get abox and mail out on Friday. I will check with my friends with the charity of this group I think your goal should be 500 Bill B
Bill ~ What you are doing is extraordinary i am so blessed to be a part of this community. Living in Arizona I can't remember the last time wore my jackets... time to put them to good use by giving them away! Thanks for all you do Bill!! Chris Winters
I've got several kids, youth, and adult coats just looking for a new owner. I will send them to the Pacific Garden Mission in Chicago. Thanks Bill for helping us find avenues for giving where it's really needed. Greg :)
Thanks Bill, this is wonderful. I'd like to give. Lisa =)
I've got a coat to give.
Oh this sounds so GREAT! We're going to go through the closets this afternoon and will be sending some to Denver!
We gave all our big coats away last year. I tried one on that I was hesitant to give away. Brandon and Faith said "When were you ever that big, mommy?" Oh my, hesitation over. I'm sure we can find some kids coats and snow pants that are outgrown. We will go as a family to purchase a few coats for grown ups and take them personally to the shelter. L, ~Sharen~
Definitely do what I can...we are doing this in our church too...I'll save and send my thickest to Chicago...we don't get as cold here in Ga...what a great idea!! ~Tammy
Bill, a really great idea, and obviously a very popular one from all the comments posted. I work in Flint Michigan, probably the hardest hit city in the country thanks to the huge recession which took down much of the auto industry. There is a food pantry and clothing store right across the street from where I work and we have already committed to making raising money for the food bank and coats for the clothing ministry our Christmas project within our small agency there. We've raised over $200 and so far have about ten coats with commitments for many, many more, so we'll be thinking of you every day as we continue to do the Lord's work!
I'm in AZ and only have 1 coat, since we don't wear them much (if at all). But I do have a couple coats the kids hardly used and am happy to send them.
I wasn't able to watch the video last night but just did...it gave me chills! WELCOME..such a powerful healing, reassuring word to give hope and faith to the world....thank you for sharing the video with us. I feel great about this opportunity to help make a difference!
Bill, Thank you so much for your love and example. Together we can make a difference and touch beautiful hearts that need a hand. - Yoly
Mr. Phillips - I love how you have incorporated giving into the challenge and allowing us to nuture our spiritual heart as well as the physical. I thought this scripture might be fitting. Matthew 20:28 Even the Son of man came not to be served, but to serve others, and to give his life a ransom for many. Be Blessed,- Dixie
What a wonderful idea Bill! I am going to get Cole and Kelly involved to help as well!
Thanks Bill, Sounds like a great idea! I have several coats that are way to big for me. I will be more than happy to send them to someone who could use them. I am boxing them up today and I - will take them to the ups store on ThursdayI- steve
What an amazing way to give from the heart to our fellow "beings". I have a feeling we are going to blow away your goal of 200 coats Bill! Just watch and see. I will go through my closets this weekend and know that I have at least 4 or 5 coats that will be going. I was a coat "junkie" when I lived in VA, but living in AZ I don't have a need for them much anymore. Deita
Hi Bill and I love your heart. I will be sending my coat. Since loosing so much weight it would be nice to give it to a good cause. I love your spirit and you are such a motivation to me. For years I have been trying to find people (friends and family) that would have the same giving spirit as I do and it is hard to find. But since connecting to Transformation I am so greatful to find people all at once. Thank you Bill. You helped fill the void I had for a long time.
Bill....being one of your international members here, I am committing myself to bringing coats to our local fire department for their annual Coat Drive which serves our community. The difficult economic times have hit hard here in Canada as well, and living in a "city of industry" in Ontario, it is very sad to see the factories and businesses with their doors boarded up. The people in need have been able to count on the coat drive for many years now, but this year the need is especially high. Thank you for ALL you do....many blessings, Jennifer
It warms our hearts to think of giving our coats for people who need to warm their bodies. I think of how I am just barely getting by month to month, and how fortunate I am to be employed for NOW. I am losing my full time job on 11/27/09. When I think of our park in downtown Salt Lake filling up with people without a home, without employment, and without a sense of security...I cry. I want to help people ALWAYS and there are so many ways to do so. I want to teach my daughter to give freely from her heart and respect what we have. I am so excited at what this challenge is ignighting in all of us. Thank you Bill ~Nicole
Thank You Bill!!! Huge grateful smile and teary eyes...how very beautiful...this is so very exciting for all...bubbling with tremendous jubilation. God's Gracious Blessings and Super Mega Loving StarJumps of Triumphant JOYous Gratitude from my heart and soul, Diane
Bill, I already started gathering up some coats after I heard you mention this on the T.com radio. Will definitely be participating in this great cause. Way to go Bill---Helping others once again--it never stops--You are awesome. Thank you, Brian
Thank you, Bill -- I'll get some coats together and send them this weekend. What a good cause!
This is a great cause but, I just gave away all our extra coats to some needy families with teenage boys that have a harder time getting coats this last weekend! Hugs, Berni
I have PLENTY of coats that no longer fit! Thanks for the opportunity Bill!
Thanks Bill for putting this opportunity to give together!!
I am all over this! My closet is getting a "makeover" this weekend. I commit the coats/gloves/scarves, etc. to the Rescue Mission. The other ladies' clothing I have is going to the Denver SafeHouse. ~Kellie
Bill as always you have brought t.com to a new level. When I picked my daughter up in Chile from her mission she was asked to donate her coats for those missionaries that didn't have one. Down there they don't even have heat. When we were there, we wore 2-3 layers of clothes and our coats all day. At night you'd sleep under 3 warm blankets. When you washed your clothes you had to wait 3 days for them to dry. They walked everywhere. Anyway, I wanted that coat for me. It was a beautiful coat with pink lining, I'd paid a lot of money for it. But, when you see what these hard working people, who have no welfare system, do, you give. AND, it feels great. I never thought twice about it, other than guilt for wanting something I'd rarely use. In Yuma, AZ we don't use coats, warm jackets are about as heavy as we get. ALSO, for those choosing to give elsewhere, make sure it's reputable. Even many so called big name charities have high overheads that give only a small percent back to the need that they say the money goes to. When you give to a mission, you know that it'll be used in that way. One year I organized making quilts for our mission here. At the end we stamped our church name so that the receiver would know where it came from. It was such a good feeling to be part of the delivering of those quilts after having spent hours with other women tieing and binding them. I just started a service club with my school students. There desire was to give back to the teachers that help them everyday, so they make cupcakes. I was amazed that these students wanted to give. We here so much about this generation being so selfish. I believe we just haven't given them the opportunity to serve. Again, thanks Bill for totally changing my life. Not only physically but even after a year of having my weight off, I still find things that I'm not consciously thinking about changing about me that have changed for the better, ALL BECAUSE OF THE FOCUS OF THIS SITE. KENNIE
Bill ,great way to give during the cold months. I am sending five coats today. Thank you, Brett
Will definitely be participating......great cause. Happy Holidays
Thank you, Bill. As a former paramedic from downtown Denver, I can REALLY vouch for the need! I ran countless call in and around the area of the Denver Rescue Mission, and many of the calls were directly related to issues of hypothermia -- a warm coat might have would have made a significant difference. Let's remember the kids, too, as many of these people have homeless children! So many times we pass along our kids' coats to other families in our neighborhoods -- many of whom can afford a coat. So perhaps we should consider sending -- or bringing -- kids coats, as well. God bless you! Kimberly
A great cause. Starts a person's wheels turning. There is always someone who needs help if we quit looking down at our own interests and look out toward others.
WAY COOL!!! Thanks for this opportunity Bill! I have two down jackets that I've been meaning to donate because we don't wear them. Now I know where to send them. I love the simplicity of this gift. Thanks for making it easy for us to make an impact and a difference. Wonderful opportunity to give thanks and share abundance..... Love, Debby
Bill - you got it! I'll start collecting coats today!
I am sure I have something. I know I have the pull over sweat shirts that will work just as well keeping a littleone warm. I ma going through winter stuff now. I will be glad to help out!!
OMG...I have tears flowing down my face! What a Beautiful Compassionate Mission~!!! Bill I am going to send my mothers coat in that my mother had before she passed away. My heart is FULL! Love you so much IN Christ Love Always! Shari
Count me in. I have been collecting coats and I have had several donations intended for (Colorado Springs) Springs Rescue Mission, but I will be sure to send one or more of my coats to help reach our goal for the Denver Rescue Mission. These are for sure a wonderful operations to be a part of!!!! -Dixie
Thank you!!!!!!!!! I WILL DO IT !!!!!!!! Mel
Thank you Bill , This is such a wonderful way to clean out our closets of the things we have shrunk out of. My husband mentioned last week that the "guest" coat closet was stuffed. He will be thrilled and I will feel so good about finding a good home for some favorite coats that I was having a hard time parting with (but shrunk out of). This makes it a joy. A personally hand written note to the staff is such a meaningful way to give love to the hard working people who show unselfish care all throughout the year. Lynn
Promise to send 1-2 to Chicago...also will be giving to our local coat drives...need to go through both my kids (25 and 22) closets and see what is not being worn...as well as my hubby and me... this is a fun project. ~~~~~~~~~~Susan
I"m going to let my dd chose a coat and let her in on the fun of giving!! We will also be praying over the package before it is mailed for a blessing on whomever receives it!!!!!~Karla
Great idea Bill
Thank you, Bill for being a great leader and awakening in us that sense of gratitude and appreciation for what we have and can do to help our fellow humankind. God bless you and everyone on the forum richly Doria
Thank you.
We are fired up here in Denver about giving. We have several members bring coats to our next Colorado get together on the 21st. and we have several of them asking if they can serve with you during Thanksgiving? Let me know what I should tell them!
thank you so much, bill...my wife and i have our coats ready...
I bet they have a mountain of coats soon. Hopefully, they will have more than they need. Thanks Bill...Cathy
Got it covered! This is go great and beautiful! Thanks Bil.
Bill, you just got some more coats coming from AUSTRALIA my man :-) It is SUMMER here so my fiance Prue and I will also have spare pants and other warm clothing to send. The way I see it, If I can be involved with the holiday challenge from over here in Australia then I can sure also send some warm clothing for my brothers and sisters who God also cut from the same cloth as me. God Bless you Bill, this is FANTASTIC and not only will we all make a difference to some not so well of brothers and sisters but it also just makes a difference in our hearts, I feel goose bumps of joy right now, knowing I am blessing someone. Love Mark G
Hi Bill, I commit to procure and send by 5:00 PM EST today, at least one beautiful, warm winter coat to support a person in need, the Denver Mission and your heart's intention for this very clear, real, and worthy goal. "Ask and you shall receive!" With love and gratitude, Robin
Bill I know first hand how important this outreach is. Often times we will serve the homeless in downton Cincy and it gets so cold here that often times homeless people "adopt" homeless dogs and keep them in their coats through the winter months. The people supply the food, heat and love and the dogs supply love, companionship and heat to the people. It was quite shocking at first but really points out the extremes that these unfortuante neighbors face. I will be dropping A few coats in the mail from Cincinnati even though I had already dropped off 6 oversize coats to our outreach last week. Love your thoughtful intentions of giving to others my friend! Many Blessings through the holidays. ~Dave
I am on the Job !
Great idea. I have a coat or two I do not need anymore. This is probably my favorite part of transformation. Showing love to others, not just speaking it. Thank you Mr. Phillips. Love you. Shawn
Dear Bill, I absolutely LOVE the fact that not only do we talk about giving from the heart in being of service to others, but we practice it daily in our Transformation endeavors. I appreciate you keeping the positive pressure on us about giving of yourself wholeheartedly through kind of acts of altruism, because it’s this way of doing this that helps us, and myself, stay grounded in humility. And, with the Healthy Holiday Fitness Challenge in place, this is the perfect time for everyone in the community , myself included, to practice this hospitable act. Volunteering our time or giving unused goods to an organization for a positive cause helps us to stay blessed. Helping those in need through our efforts this holiday season will help us as a family feel good about uplifting those who are less fortunate. In today’s society, it’s sad to see the unemployment rate and other obtuse things take dominant stands, like stock prices being advertised on digital billboards in New York City’s Times Square Manhattan. This forces many who do not have the financial ability to remain dependent, as most are used to being independent. It’s also a time of feeling thankful, because knowing no one has to, can truly make one feel more than thankful when someone donates a coat, or something of use to them, in their time of despair. Helping those who are less fortunate does bring the best out of us. The inner qualities most didn’t know they had, such as love, compassion, forgiveness, and a feeling of being ‘complete’ settles in. My only guess is because we become more givers, rather than with the hand out. Speaking on my behalf, as I gracefully season today, I’ve transitioned into being more of a thoughtful person, in giving of myself. Thank you so much again Bill, for helping to bring out the best in all of us, through emphasizing the importance of remaining positive, give more of ourselves freely, and helping others succeed, in acute & obtuse times. Transformation from within bring out the best in anyone, who truly desires to be genuinely transformed, while helping others. Giving to those in need surely makes the giver feel good on the inside, and also like a successful servant of a positive cause. :-)
Hi Bill. Thank you for this opportunity. I don't have a winter coat but I will get one and send it. Beth
Oh, just so you know, I was kidding, Im aware Im North!! Some were questioning my intelliigence..lol...I guess that means I will send a coat to both ;) ~Thia~
Bill, I got all my kids digging in the closet right now finding all sorts of coats...they're having a great time!! This is great!
Of course I will donate my and my husbands coats. I have not gotten any "smaller" yet, but I will give away some that fit right now. They are sure to be too big soon - right Bill? ;-)
A great cause and program.. My brownie troop collects coats each year for the "One Warm Coat" program to donate to a local Seattle charity.. so ours will go there, but I hope others can contribute as they are able. Everyone deserves to stay warm this season! Way to give!
What a fantastic thing, Bill. Thank you!
Love that beautiful video. We moved to California 5 years ago from Minnesota. I guess it's time to open that box marked "Winter Clothes" and put them to good use. Thanks Bill for prodding me to do something I should have done years ago. Love ya. > Jim.
pheweee - what a fantastic organization & one close to my heart. i love supporting charities which do more than provide items to the needy ... but chose to assist with rehabilitation in it's entirety! I KNOW this group can come up with 200 coats (children grow out of theirs so quickly dont they!!) ... i'm not only south of Mississippi but south of the Equator too - I've joined the "Beanie Machine" .. it's summer time here in South Africa but we're starting early in making and knitting Beanies for the children in Lesotho for winter 2010 - they're collecting 15 000!!! can someone teach me to knit please?? (",) ~Happy Giving~
Thanks Bill. This is a wonderful way for us all to share our excess with those who are truly in need and fits in beautifully with our HHC transformation programs. I would also like to encourage everyone to try to support their local missions, if possible, with a check in any amount that might be used to provide holiday meals to the homeless. Gifts of any size are appreciated and can be put towards a warm meal for someone who might otherwise go hungry. Average Joe
Where the heck am I? East West Mississippi - where the heck is that, I cant even spell that!! I had to copy and paste....where do I send this fricken jacket?....lol...lol...Im being silly, I'll go find a map and figure it ou! Always in fun....~Thia~
I think this is such a great idea. I already have a couple of coats that I will be getting packed up on Friday to send, but I'm going to be on a mission to find others who have coats that they can give as well. My husband and I like to listen to the radio show from the Pacific Garden Mission of an evening when we go to bed. There are so many lives that they have saved from death and disaster, and have helped them get on the right path, spiritually as well as physically. *****Thank you Bill for such a great idea.**** Teresa
What a great thing to do. I am happy to send a coat. I may send an old leather flight jacket and a ski parka. This is awesome!
Wow, this so amazing! Together we can definitely make a difference in the lives of others. I'm so with you on this vision Bill, every day I pray for people in need and somehow I know God reaches out to them. I've always had a place in my heart to give and to love the unloved. Count me in on this, I have 2 nice coats to send. Praise God!!
As a Colorado native, I've supported the Denver Rescue Mission for a long time. They truly do make a difference in all the lives they touch. I'm so happy to participate in this Transformation goal of raising 100 coats for each charity. It feels so good.... Jackie
i am happy to help and to give. i will work on getting some coats off this week! great mission and service. i am flooded with tears this week. this community is something magical. there is something powerful i feel when i get involved here.... hmmm pondering! and loving being here. thank you for this Bill. hugs~ andrea♥
Count me in!.. I remember you mentioning this in denver but I wasn't sure where to donate, Subway is doing a similar coat drive so I'm glad for the denver info. Thank you Bill, you are one amazing man, you know that? I think we all pretty much LOVE you to pieces.Yup, I know we do. ;)
I am all over this I can not imagine needing a warm coat and not having the money for it~thanks Bill !!
Bill I was so glad I came and read this thread. I have been out of the loop so to speak and just being able to catch up for the few minutes tonight makes me realize how important it is to stay connected to this community. It really is about doing it for a greater cause. I have signed up to feed the homeless on Sunday's at United Food Bank and these opprtunites really keep us in check with our humble side. Today when my friend called to complain that they had cancelled a work load and he was sick of his job being slow I reminded him how it could be muchworse and he should count his lucky stars he has a job to go to. Gosh.... I am at a loss for words.... note to self.... stay connected no mater what- too many great things happen here-Thanks Bill!
Thank you Bill for this opportunity to help others in need. Our family will be sending at least 3 coats to the Denver Rescue Mission. Personally, I , and others in our church will be participating in the Angel Tree program. Angel Tree is a ministry that reaches out to the children of inmates and their families with the love of Christ. It seeks to transform the lives of these families and to reconcile them to their Heavenly Father and each other. This is done by contacting the families of those that are incarcerated and giving gifts for Christmas to the children on behalf of the parents who cannot buy gifts for the children themselves. Thanks again for all you do to help make a difference in the World. - Chad
Awesome, plans are already in the works for a good donation from Utah!!!
What a neat video and a wonderful thing we can all do...to give the gift of WARMTH! I loved seeing the Mission staff in the video! This is awesome! :D Thanks, Bill, and everyone who participates! I fell in love with Denver on that half marathon and am so happy to be a part of this!
West on the Mississippi. Excited to bless someone with a couple of coats! I'm feeling blessed that I have an extra coat. Tracy
Yes they sure will Shannon!! =) Our specific goal is 100 coats to each charity but warm clothes and of course donations of money are always put to immediate and good use.
TOGETHER we can make a difference to over 200 people this winter season! How amazing is that! When we give without thought of its return we recieve so much positive energy, light and love. I have always been very weary of charitable entities, afraid that my help would only line the "high ups" pockets and it has held me back from making a difference....I appreciate you taking the time to find the right charity for this community to contribute to! I would be honored to take part in this awesome effort! I am certain they need coats for kids too and I have plenty of those as well with 3 young girls! And I know JUST the coat that I used to hide under! I was talking with someone today about wearing the coat of victim - and how you CAN just take it off....the symbolizm is powerful...we can rid ourselves of that which no longer serves or purpose or defines who we are...and in doing so make a difference to those in need. You can't ask for more than that.
I feel blessed to be part of Tranformation and am going to continue to support a cause dear to my heart: ARSA (AIDS RIDE SOUTH AFRICA) to be held August 10, 2010 biking 785 miles from Johannesburg to Capetown, South Africa in ten days. Helping to stop the spread of AIDS through compassion, education, support and research. I can make the world a safer place. You can, too. Cycle on! arsa.org.za
I love this idea! Between my wife and I I'm sure we'll be able to send in a couple of coats. Let's do this, and absolutely smash our 200 coat goal!!! Cheers, Paul.
Hey Bill, Thanks for the oppurtunity to help out with these worthy causes. I manage two different retail stores and am setting up a coat drive box in both lobbies. I will send each group east and west of the Mississippi as well as spread some holiday giving in my own community. Thanks again, Scott P.S. Sorry about the Broncos, I was rootin for em!!
Thanks for posting this Bill. Now I'll know where to send my coats... They're in for a long trip - all the way from Australia. But I will post them when I arrive in LA in the next 3 weeks. Thanks for giving me this opportunity Bill :-D
I think the folks in Denver and Chicago will be warmed not only by coats but by our loving care. Great idea. Love, Christine
Thank you Bill, we will get ours out this week. Much love, Carolynn
A beautiful act of kindness! Giving from the heart is such an incredible, enlightening feeling. It is a gift in itself to give without expecting anything in return. I will definitely join you, Bill! I am certain that I can find a few coats to give away. . .I will go raid my entire families closets and mine included. This community reached above and beyond the original Make A Wish Goal and Bill, I believe, when we all come together, we will supply more than 200 coats! We Can Do This!! I am amazed by the heart and soul of this community. It is POWERFUL!!!! God is truly blessing each of us.
Thanks Bill, I recently gave last years coat to the church coat drive and kids coats and clothes to Jacobs Well ( our community christian good will) we also give all the grandkids school clothes uniforms to the school each school year so someone else can get more wear from them. I will look to see if anyone has more to donate to your cause. It's awesome to give! Love, Linda
On my way now to my closet! Two awesome organizations that I know our community (family) will embrace. Thank you Bill for your leadership! Love you-Stone
Got it covered Thanks! Marty
"Together we can make a wonderful difference in the lives of others, and perhaps someday not too far off on the horizon, we can make a wonderful difference in the World." - Bill Phillips I just simply love you and I feel it a privilege to be able to participate with our T.com coat drive! Thank you for the opportunity Bill and thank you for just being beautiful YOU and sharing YOU with us. Love, Me!
Thanks Bill! I'll be sure to send a coat or two to the Denver Rescue Mission. Also, I'm in the process of organizing a coat drive here in Houston at the NASA Johnson Space Center where I work; my goal is to have the coat drive kick off on Monday, November 16th and will accept donations until Monday December 14th. I am planning to donate all coats from this drive to the Youth Readiness Organization of Houston. Thank you for all that you do and the tremendous amount of inspiration and support that you open to any and all who are open to receiving it! Best wishes! Jamie
I love these kinds of missions and charities. Thank you for sharing. We have a local homeless shelter here that I am working on giving to each month as their need is very great, but I am sure I have a coat or two to give to Chicago. Thank you!
It will be an honour, Bill!
great mission Bill!! I will contribute as well.
Thanks, Bill! I was just looking at some things, like coats, and wondering where will I go with them? Now I know! Instead of an evening watching TV, I think I will be coming in from my walk and cleaning my closet... ml
Bill ~ I would love to be a part of the Tcom team support towards the 'East of the Mississippi' Coat-alition. :) I feel a bit guilty sending all of my charitable efforts all the way to Chicago, so I think I will work on a coat drive in Cleveland as well. Many Blessings to you and all of the T community. ~Brooke
This is such a wonderful idea and again a way to be part of something so much bigger than myself and show love as a community. I will get this done and report back here when I have followed through with my committment.
I will find a coat even if I have to buy a new one. I will also find out if my wife has any to give away...shes so tiny that her coats will fit most kids LOL. Love you Bill. Thanks!!!
Love love this! I will definitely have coats in the mail, actually I will probably drive them in myself! Thank you so much for taking the time to research these charities for us so that we can collectively make a huge difference! I appreciate all that you do and I'm so glad to be part of this community! With love - Janice
Awesome, Bill thank you! I am assuming children's coats are ok too? LOL I dress my kids nicer than myself & I have some that are like new I would like to pass on. ~Leann
I just gave our old coats to the warm hearts campaign here. Will they take hats, gloves or cash donations. ~ Shannon A. ~
