I Am

a 39 year old wife of 12 years to MrGrinch and a stay at home mother of four children, ages 21, 11, 9, and 16 months. Yes, you read right, my children span three decades. My life basically revolves around my family. No time for much else including developing friendships or any extra curricular activities such as health and fitness or even getting around to checking my e-mail. In order to know me better, I should tell you why I decided to become a member of this community and join the challenge. In 2001 I researched Bill Phillip’s Body for Life and started that challenge with my husband. I gained so much from that challenge. I developed self confidence, self worth, was by far healthier, more energetic and above all else, I was happy. I even became a certified personal fitness trainer. I started to become the person that I wanted to be or knew I could be. But...nearing the end of the three months, my self destructive mode set in, and as with most of the things that I start, I didn't finish. I am now at a point in my life that I realize that things have to change. My father had a massive heart attack at age 44 and he not only lived to tell about it, he is the healthiest 72 yr old I have ever met. Unfortunately my brother wasn't so lucky. He also had a massive heart attack at age 44 and died within minutes. I have the same genetic make up that causes my body to produce the bad cholesterol. I struggle daily with moderate to severe arthritis and constant aches and pains because of degenerative bone disease in my spine, two pinched nerves and a bulging disc. At 38, I am closing in on that horrible age that has plagued our family. If I don't do something now, the chances of me being around for my children grow smaller and smaller with each passing day. I find great joy in helping and encouraging others, but this has led me to frequently neglect myself and to get derailed when I try to do the things that I need to do for me. My #1 goal is to survive for my husband and my children. Goals to follow would be to change the angry, bitter, disgusted person that I have become into the happy, hopeful and helpful person that I want and know I can be and that my husband and children deserve to have.

To me, Transformation Means

total change - a change from within. I know that I have to change habitual behavior in order to change anything else. Whether it be the inefficient way that I go about accomplishing my perpetual and monotonous daily chores or the way I continue to yell at instead of talk to my children, I know that breaking a bad habit is always difficult, to say the least. I know it can be done though, and I will do it. It means changing my outlook on everything around me and thinking positively. It means changing how I perceive a situation at any given moment and recognizing that it can dramatically change the outcome of that situation. It means giving to my family willingly, instead of because I have to. It means having positive interaction with my children and encouraging them. It means learning how to step outside of my little box and put myself out there for all to see - the good and the bad. It means trusting others. Most of all it means learning how to use my fear to my advantage. I've learned in the past that when you overcome your fear, you gain freedom, confidence and the power to do it again.

My Goals

My #1 Goal is to succeed this time!!! That means actually seeing it through to the end, with the intention of a lifelong commitment to a total transformation. My focus on the ability to lose the desired weight is not what matters most. It is my overall health, mindset, change of heart and attitude that matters most.

My Intentions

I intend to create a healthy environment for my children, my husband (who is also completing the transformation) and for me. I intend to teach my children healthy eating habits as I learn them. I intend to demonstrate for them what healthy lifestyle choices look like. I intend to empower them to control their life and create their future instead of leaving it up to chance and just accepting what comes along.

Who I'd Like to Inspire

I’d like to inspire my children for obvious reasons, but I also hope that I am blessed with the opportunity to inspire anyone and everyone who needs inspiration! As I said in the “I Am” section, much of my joy comes from helping others. Aside from the joy I get from watching my children, there is no greater satisfaction than that of knowing I was given the opportunity to help and encourage someone else.
