Gaining Credibility

I have been at this site for over a year now. I have changed my body a lot, but to be very honest i am still a big big man. That makes it more difficult to talk to people about health issues, because they see me still weighing in at a weight that is considered obese. Even though most everyone knows I used to weigh about 400 pounds...They still don't want to take so much advice from a fat guy.

Yea they know I am strong, they saw me whip a much younger guy at arm wrestling in the office the other day and they see me getting slimmer each week from my good nutrition and training. Some have even seen me running around the neighborhood...But I have to face it. People do not look at me as a credible source of information to get healthy yet. Size does matter after all...

I was sitting in the chair getting my hair cut by my razor thin hair stylist the other day. She had 3 people listening to her about their her new diet that she had lost 30 pounds with. (thirty pounds she did not need to lose) They were mesmerized with the idiotic unhealthy new diet she was spewing. The prisoners ate more food at Austwitz! I listened and somehow understood that she had gained credibility because she was thin. All I could think of was that i had a anorexic cutting my hair and people were lined up to listen how she starved herself to death...

So do I need to starve myself to gain credibility? Will people stop and listen only when I look like I just got out of a German death camp? I guess so. But that's not me. I want to be strong and muscular. I will be smaller when I get to Denver and I am already losing scale weight. But who knows how small I will have to be until people are lined up to listen to what I have to say about health...It's anyones guess...But the advice I give will be solid and sound. I won't be telling you to eat clear soup and vegetables once a day...

Eat right, play hard at the gym and live a life that helps others...One day maybe they will listen...

Im listening, too. You ended your blog a few days ago with "Push the button champ.". That blog sparked something in me. Your blog the next day about "burning out" nailed me exactly. Thanks to you and Clarissa (and others), I'm starting my challenge Monday. Thank you, Dusty.

Hey Dusty, many people are already listening to you. You've made a difference in alot of people's lives by just making the healthy cahnges in yourself and being the change....you can't really preach to everyone or anything you know? I understand what you're saying, but just know that you are already inspiring many others on the site to make healthy changes in their lives =) Steph

Dusty, I'M LISTENING TO YOU! And you give the best advice -- smart advice -- and advice spoken from experience. The day you start telling people to eat clear soup and veggies once a day, is the day that I'm sure many will question your credibility. Don't change.... well, be the change :) but don't change your attitude on health and fitness cuz you got it right -- those others are off the track. What a great blog post.~~Janice

AMen brother, Amen. "Those who mind don't matter, those who do won't mind". I see it like this my friend. For the toothpicks in the world, I may never be a credible source of information. For those that see journey we have been through, may value our advice, or may not. We simply need to continue to live our lives to be our own change. Congratulations for the continued success your are experiencing Dusty. You are credible in my eyes. Jeff

Hey, thanks for the laugh, that was some good stuff. You hit it right on about appearance, I was having this discussion with Paul the other day. I was watching a program on Nutrion and when the gal came on and I saw her I turned the channel. She had the biggest lips from putting fat into them, I couldn't listen to what she had to say. I showed your pix to Paul and his first impression is Strong. You look like a football player. You are a big boned Man, can't change DNA. You look Healthy and that is what we are going for. Again, Thanks for the laugh Cheri
