Putting Death on Notice
This is a blog from several months ago that helped some people get inspired and fired up to live. Since there are some new people coming to the site for a new round of Challenges, I thought it would be appropriate to bring it back. Hope it helps to inspire you or someone else...
This is an open letter to Death. He has hung around me for far too long. This is a death notice for him.
Dear Death,
Grim Reaper, End of Life, Journey's End, Spiritual Metamorphosis whatever you want to call yourself today. I want to take this time to address you Man to Man. You have been hovering around me long enough. It's time to leave for a while. You are free to stay around if you want to, but you are gonna have a long wait to take me. I am not going easily. Death I will not feel your sting today...
Last night as I was at the gym I was lifting a heavy, heavy weight. When I finished straining to lift it I dropped the bar hard enough that the whole gym turned around and looked. It was NOT the bell toll of death for me. Nope...it was the notice I am serving you. For whom the barbell tolls is for you Death. From your friend and longtime companion Dusty. That clank may have woke you up...Sorry I spooked you Mr. Grim. I know you have been snoozing lately waiting on me to fail again.
You had your chance to take me when I was just turning 40. You tried to sneak up on me with Diabetes and a gangrene gall bladder but I survived somehow. As a matter of fact I was willing to go back then. I was ready to die, but you lost your grip and I escaped. I even called you back for years and begged you to take me Death. But you didn't. You just let me eat and get fatter. Maybe you get bonus points for taking really fat people to their grave...
You had a second chance when I got really sick in my late 40's. I was hovering around 400 pounds. You introduced me to a serious infection that was supposed to bring me to you. But like the Houdini I am I escaped you again Death. You must not be very good at your job. I was such an easy target. But something happened then. God stepped in and gave me a hand. He showed me that if I wanted to live I could. Somehow He convinced me that my life was worth something. Yes God kicked me in gear and warned me about you, Death, being at my doorstep. I woke up from my slumber and started on the road to health.
Yes Death you have seen me give up a few times and binge and get lazy since then. But now you are seeing a man that is on a mission. I know those clanking barbells are annoying you. Goody! Here's something else you need to think about...
I have friends. Lots of them. They are listening to me tell them about you. I am warning them about your early arrival in their lives. I am having a great time seeing them wake up and clank the barbells and run with me...Oh Death I would hate to be you. You are losing and losing and losing some more. Things are a changing Death... Get used to the wait.
So if you want to still hang around, take a seat over there and rest your boney butt, it's gonna be a while before you can have me. 30,40, maybe 50 years. Grab a cold drink out of the fridge and relax. I hope that sickle doesn't get too heavy. But Dusty and friends are not coming yet. Yes Heaven can wait. There are more urgent matters here left to do as We live a full and long life...
Sorry to disappoint you Death...You aren't the first person I have ever let down and probably not the last. Right now all I can say is TOUGH NOOGIES!
Sincerely and in God's grip,
Dusty

I remember this one and I think it's excellent and good timing to put it out there again Duster...Coach
