Restoring Your Life
Yesterday I was in the gym and my trainer grabbed my bicep like he was admiring it's size. He looked at me and said "You are in the best shape you have ever been in, aren't you?" I thought for a moment and sure enough I was. The only other times I was somewhat healthy was when I was younger playing football and I wasn't very healthy then...just young. The other time was when I was 18 and in Navy boot camp...That didn't last because they sent me home when they found out I had Asthma...Really I have never been healthy after the age of 19... I had ruined my life and now I was restoring it...I didn't even stop to think about how far i had come.
I was a guy who would not exercise, I ate sugary junk food like donuts on a daily basis. Every once in a while I would go on a starvation diet and lose a tremendous amount of weight, only to gain it all back and then some. I needed to restore my life, but I did not know how to go about it...I will give you a few secrets. They might suprise you...
Restoring your life and your health is not really based on a physical thing. Yes you do have to move around, lift heavy things and eat nutritious foods, but the key is not found in the external push. It is found in the internal struggle that most of us refuse to look at. Restoration does not come through jumping rope, lifting weights and starvation. It comes through seeing that you need to love and respect yourself and stop the selfish ways that are ruining you...Here's what I mean...
Reaper said something the other day that I haven't been able to put into words, but I knew it. He said that he realized how selfish he was because he could possibly die early from a heart attack or something due to health reasons and not be there for his wife and kids. He knew he had to restore his life. He recognized his selfishness and did something about it. He is renewing and restoring his health. He loves his family and hmself enough to give himself health...You see loving yourself and loving others will allow you to restore your life by getting rid of that plain old selfish nature we all posess...
So reward yourself by loving yourself with a workout and a nutritious meal. Lay down the part of you that wants to kill you, that selfish old me me me. Stop catering to that lazy person that wants ice cream and a remote control...Yea, that feels good at the time, but do you really want to suffer the damage that the lifestyle of death brings? Of course not! After all you aren't selfish are you?? You do love yourself and love your family don't you???
I thought so...So love yourself into shape again. Find a reason to spread your love and unload that selfishness once and for all. That poor little pitiful me has to go!!!
Go get 'em Champ!

Man I was going to slack on the gym today until I read your blog. I thought well heck I did 100 reps of each exercise yesterday I can take a break today. So I had to justify my thoughts. Well I'm headed to ROB's GYM lol. Thanks again for the motivation. Gary
Love it, love you! Elizabeth

Good post - I enjoyed reading this and hope to learn/apply it. Thank you for your knowledge and leadership. Peace, David
This paints a very compelling picture . . . the ice cream and remote "lifestyle of death" versus loving yourself into shape again. This an important image for me. Thanks, Dusty. =)
