Being In the ZONE

We know when we are in the ZONE for personal change. It feels different than being in another state of mind. We have clarity, vision and most importantly, we WANT something. Something bigger, better than our present selves. When we are in the ZONE, our actions are aligned with what it is that we want, so much so that it can't help but happen. Why is it that, though being in the ZONE is a wonderful state, this state can be difficult to achieve? Why...

Open Your Mind, Open Your Heart

The world is full of different and wonderful people. I met many at this weekend's event in Knoxville TN.I met people from all walks of life with one thing in common: we are all trying to better ourselves as human beings and we are all trying to better understand our place in this world. The wonderful thing about us all is that our ultimate common destination is one of self actualization, but we will all follow different paths to move clo...

What I Want to Be When I Grow Up (Update 2)

As I mentioned in the first two posts on this topic, the Cruise and this Transformation Challenge has made me take a hard look at myself.  I have rediscovered my passion for helping others and am taking it to the next level. I have just completed my examination for the Personal Trainer Certification and mailed it out last night. I registered for this 12-14 week course on August 8 and submitted on September 22, l...

Thoughts on the Value of Time

Why is it that we have no difficulty thinking of money as something of value, but when it comes to time, we feel we can squander it like we have plenty of it?We waste time by procrastinating, watching TV, playing video games, surfing the Internet for hours for no particular reason, driving long commutes during rush hour, and the list goes on. We will spend our time frivolously, while at the same time saying that we don't have time to connect with...

Go Ahead, Expand Your Comfort Zone

I have seen massive changes all around me over the last number of months. The common thread is that I've noticed that the more we push past our comfort zone, the more energized we become as individuals. I've done my fair share of changes in my personal and professional life, but so have some other folks close to me. Here are the comments that seem to be universal:Wow! That was incredible!I can't believe I did that!I was really nervous about it, b...

Brick Walls are Meant for Other People

If you are not familiar with "The Last Lecture" by Randy Pausch, I highly recommend it (see link below). Randy was a professor at Carnegie Melon who was diagnosed with cancer and offered a last lecture to students and faculty to offer what he felt were life lessons that he would want to leave behind for his 3 children. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ji5_MqicxSoRandy's message is a powerful one and I quote him of...

What You Resist Persists

Those are such powerful words. They really symbolize what it is that we do when we treat ourselves less than well when we are feeling we don't deserve more out of life. Bill's post for assignment #11 was very powerful and moved me more than I would have expected this morning. "What you resist persists." Those 4 little words are so important to keep in mind as we reinvent ourselves. I have many examples from past years that point to this...

The Demand is There! We just need to open our eyes, ears and hearts...

It's amazing how one might think there is no one around that needs support or encouragement...or maybe it's just me not realizing it for some time now.Since mentioning to about a dozen people at work or just around town that I will soon be certified as a fitness trainer, 5 people (nearly half) have indicated in a serious manner that they are seeking assistance in making positive changes in their lives. These are seemingly successful people who ar...

You Never Know

You never know what can happen in life. For a few years now, I have been wishing for my mother to make changes to her lifestyle. My father passed away of a heart attach at 47 years of age and I am seeing her head down that path due to her sedentary lifestyle.Well, the wake up call came on Wednesday afternoon in the garden. She experienced a heart attack, followed by a second. The ambulance came, thanks to her wonderful husband Wayne. After ov...

What I want to be when I grow up...(update)

As I mentioned in the first post on this topic, the Cruise and this Transformation Challenge has made me take a hard look at myself. The physical goals are there, but it's the mental challenge that is really driving me this time. I have rediscovered my passion for helping others. I am enjoying helping my Muay Thai Kru by assisting his classes 4X per week and now I am taking it to the next level. I have registered for the Personal Trainer Cer...

What I want to be when I grow up...

This Transformation Challenge is really making me take a good hard look at what I am doing. The funny thing is that the physical goal is there and I'm doing most of what I have to, but it's the mental challenge that is the real driver this time around. This last Cruise opened my eyes to so many aspects of my life that I have not been addressing that I had a really hard time getting my head around it all when I got back home.I have decided that I w...

Letting go...of stuff (update)

Well,I wrote over a week ago about the fact that I was starting to lose another kind of weight: stuff! Since I last wrote, I have completely emptied all my closets and set them back up, removing all goods that I did not need or want anymore. As a result, I have removed:10 bags of casual clothes and 5 garbage bags of junk40 hangers' worth of dress/office clothing2 X 8' tables of things to sell (baskets, my entire candle, CD, VHS collection, many b...

Letting Go...of stuff

A am a bit of a hoarder by nature (if I buy or am given something, I can't let it go!). I have stuff from 20 years ago that I don't look at or use, but yet I have trouble letting go of it. I believe that I am mentally drowning in this stuff. I need to offload most of it because it will give me clarity around what is most important to me (keep), that represents me in useful and meaningful ways (keep) and what is just bogging me down (get rid ...

Looking in the mirror

Wow was this ever a tough exercise to get through. I procrastinated in starting this challenge because of this exercise. First, there was denial: 'I've been BFL'ing for 3.5 years and I've achieved some great results, I am happy with myself and really don't need to do anything else.' Next was a pretty dark number of days right after the cruise (see first post) where a lot of introspection occured. Finally, I went to Starbucks, ordered a skinny lat...

Cruise offers unexpected insights

The 2008 CFL Cruise was quite an experience. This was my third cruise, but it proved to be a very different experience. As usual, I met up with old friends, made new ones and had a good time. What was different was the presentations I had the opportunity to view and some of the messages Bill provided. Coming into the Cruise, I thought I had it figured out. I've been BFL'ing for 3.5 years, lost 25lbs and kept it off for the most part ove...
