Thoughts on the Value of Time

Why is it that we have no difficulty thinking of money as something of value, but when it comes to time, we feel we can squander it like we have plenty of it?

We waste time by procrastinating, watching TV, playing video games, surfing the Internet for hours for no particular reason, driving long commutes during rush hour, and the list goes on. We will spend our time frivolously, while at the same time saying that we don't have time to connect with loved ones or to take time to take good care of ourselves, mentally, physically or spiritually. Shame on us.

When we will think back on our lives, what will we remember? Will we remember the endless hours of sitcoms? Will we remember our long drive to and from work? The time we spent in line at the drive through? The endless, mindless hours looking for nothing in particular at the mall or on the Internet? NO!

We will remember that:

- Special walk on the beach.

- Outstanding meal we prepared.

- Course we took just because it sounded interesting.

- New skill we learned that made us feel special.

- Blue sky we soaked in while on a hike on the weekend.

- Wonderful smile of gratitude someone gave us for helping them out in their time of need.

- Powerful word of encouragement we provided to someone at just the right moment.

- Time with friends on a special day.

- Celebration we organized to mark a special achievement.

- Challenge we completed to transform our bodies/minds.

- Day we met someone who would change the direction of our personal or professional lives.

- ...fill in the blank.

Time is precious. One day, our remaining balance will be zero.

How rich do you want your time to be?

Focus on adding life to your years, not just years to your life.

Namaste.
