First 5k

Who ever thought I could finish a 5K? Not me I think I doubted myself to the finish line. I was deffinatly the last one to cross but I did it! I picked the Peggy Brock Memorial Race for the Cure as my first race because it is something close to my heart.  It was a beautiful day in Upper Arlington, OH. The sun was shinning the air was crisp and the trees were changing color.  I was so nervous watching all the people and of course I was the biggest one there, but I didnt care because I had only one thing on my mind finish the race.  The course was 2 laps through a neighborhood the first lap was hard I tried desperatly to keep up with the crowd but with every step I took it seemed the crowd took 2.  On the second lap I was getting lapped by runners and some fast walkers but I kept going.  My husband finished his run and walked the last lap with me so I wouldnt be alone.  It bothered me that when I got too the route markers they had laid them down.  All I could think about at that moment is if the clock and the finish line are gone I will be devastated.  All the police escorts are now leaving and cars are again racing by me, my heart was pounding as I turned the last corner and it was still there the finish line! Two young girls were the only people left and they started cheering me on, with my whole body aching and tears welling up in my eyes I looked at my husband who had run to the finish line to take a picture of me.  I gathered all my strength and started running! What a great day!
