2009 A New Year

2008 is over and we welcome in 2009. 2008 was a memeorable year, a year I will never forget.  2008 has its highlights as well as its dissapointments.  Read trhe newspaper or watch TV - no need for me to talk about what you already know.  But there were some really positive moments that happened in my life. The biggest improvement or bright spot in my life has been my renewed committment to not only working out, but working out consi...

Lower Body Workout

Yesterday was a lower body workout day.  It was a day that kind of took me off guard and now looking back I laugh at it.  But I go to a great LA Fitness Gym where they have all the equipment you could imagine.  I went through my 50 minute workout doing the typical exercises I do.  I thought that I should do an extra 10 minutes on a leg machine that they have that works the inner thigh as well as your outer thigh. It was like I...

Rethink- Why the change?

Recently, over the last couple of weeks I have been thinking why am I doing all this hard work.  I am working out 6 days a week doing 3-4 days of cardio and 3 days doing weight training. I schedule all my meals and supplements.  Now don't get me wrong, I love the results that I am getting.  I love the way people look at me.  I love how the topic of conversation turns to talking about my workout regimen. But I rethink why-why-w...

The Longest Football Rivalry- 144th Game

It seemed it was just yesterday when I wrote a blog about how I was really worried that the football season is here.  I was primarily concerned about the tailgates with all the food and beer and festivities that go with it. Well, this last Saturday marked the end of this years tailgating and yes it did leave its mark and affected my workouts a bit.  My weight remained constant over the last couple months, but now I can refocus on achiev...

Little Things Mean A Lot

Over the last month I have not been too active on this site.  Having busy schedules and changing proirities sometimes does this. Sometimes ones focus changes and maybe isn't as shape or on target as it use to be. The changing season, with days getting shorter and days getting colder are another lame excuse.  I could give tons of excuses and none of them really aren't good enough.  They are just excuses. Little excusses that add up ...

The Truth - No Smoke Here - KISS

Recently I came down with a sever cold and it kept me from working out and basically doing nothing for two weeks.  Finally I started working out again, easing my way back into my workouts over the last two weeks.  So it has been a month since I have worked out really hard.  This week I will get back to doing hard cardio workouts. During this time I didn't spend much time on this site either writing to people, new memebers or old me...

Two Weeks of not Working Out

I have been down with a really bad cold the last two weeks.  During this time I spent most of it laying around doing nothing trying to get better.  Yesterday I looked in the mirror and said I look like a pear or pear shaped.  The scale told me I didn't gain a pound even though it seemed like I ate like a pig over the last two weeks. A lot of soup and being home all day made the refrigerator really accessible. So by not working...

A Talk With The Head Trainer

After today's LBW at my LA gym, I sat down and talked with the head trainer/manager about my progress since starting the program to get some insight from how he has seen me progress. I don't use a trainer when working out, but they do keep their eyes open and watch. When I first started out with my BFL exercise routine, 10 weeks ago, I kept my workout journal and he noticed it right away and asked how things were working out. I guess th...

Week 12 Assignment

The first question to be answered is, "How will I look after the 18 week mark of my Transformation?" By the end of my transformation I will look like I never have looked before. I have been a past participant of the 1999 BFL Challenge and the look I have already developed at 11 weeks of this challenge is so different from how I looked in 1999 and how I pictured myself looking when I started this program. I am 52 years old yet I am devel...

Week 11 Assignment

These lessons, assignments, exercises take you deep within your being and make you come to some self realizations that define who and what each of us are, our role as a spouse, friend, parent, sibling, brother or sister. I am sure there has been many changes we have all made over the last several months, if not longer. But the one central idea I have to let go of is that I am someone who is 52. I am not 40 or 30 anymore and I can't look like I am...

Week 10 Results

It has been 3 weeks since I posted my weight.  That is because I hit a lull in my weight loss goals and don't know why.  I have been eating the same as in the past.  I have kept up on my exercise regimen like in the past.  After week 7,  I had a busy schedule that sidetracked me a little bit but I kept plugging away.  My weight at the end of week 7 was 185.8: today I weigh 185.2 in the morning and 184.8 after a quick...

A Glimpse of the Future!

As I progress through this transformation I am experiencing changes in my life that I never had before. Just last night I had a dream, a dream that was very strange, surreal, vivid, a dream that I will remember for a long time.  I don't know why I had this dream, because I never had one like this before, and I probably won't have another again like it, but I hope I would. In the dream I was having a tug of war, one on one against someone else...

Am I what I pictured

I just finished reading Dianne's blog about 10 goals in the transformation process and I felt comfortable about all of them except one.  I'll paraphrase it-"Have a clear picture of what you want to look like".  Well I did the BFL in 1999 and developed a certain look. Even though I continued to lift after this challenge and kept reasonably in somewhat decent shape over the next 8 years I had a certain look.  Vertigo set in...

Assignment # 9

That is exactly how I have been feeling lately. For the first 6-7 weeks I was looking at this as a competition. I was very regimented in everything I did, Eating, exercising, water intake, supplements. And I felt that I was setting myself up for what happened after my 1999 challenge.  I burned out and forgot what I went through. During the last month I have said to myself that this will be different----and why??? Because of all the great peop...

Week 8 Stall Out-Refocus

This weekend concluded week 8 for me.  I did most things right.  I did my cardio on time, I did my upper and lower body workouts when I was supposed to. My meals were ok, I thought.  But I didn't hit the weight I had planned.  This was the first time in 8 weeks that I didn't hit my weight goals.  I am a little upset about that, but I think this happened for a couple reasons, but I really don't like making excuses.  I...

ALWAYS GROW

Back in September of last year I made a decision to obtain my Real Estate Broker's Licence.  I wasn't quite sure what would be expected of me, but I knew this is something I should do in my life and it would add greatly to my professionalism in my business.  I have worked in the real estate field since I was a young teenager (14).  In 1987 I recieved my standard real estate licence. I am now 52 and decided it would be a good time t...

WEEK SEVEN VACATION!

This week my family took a small 4 day vacation to Niagara Falls. I thought that spending 4 days out vacationing might not be the best thing in following a BFL plan. But I tried to eat right, get my workouts in and try to keep to a good regimen.  Glad to say that when I came home there was a small reduction in weight about .2 pound loss and after I worked out this morning I weighed in at 185.8, a loss of 2.4 pounds from last week. I rea...

Stress and Working Out

Everyone has some sort of stress in their life.  It could come from work, social issues, family, financial, health and all different areas I may not have touched on.  But we all have some stress in our lives, some more than others. Plus we all deal with stress in a different manner.Working out, either a cardio or weight lifting reduces stress a lot.  My question is, when you work out knowing there is stress in your life, do you use...

10 Down 15 pounds To Go

Today marked the end of week 5. I had a great week with everything, food, exercise, mentally, and spiritually. My low weight was 189.8 with bodyfat at 23.6% I am really happy with the progress so far. So that means from day 1 till now I have lost 10 pounds and lost almost 7% body fat. I hope to continue with the progress made and have a new photo for this coming weekend which would be the end of my 6th week. I want to learn how to paste...

Size 36 Pants

It has been over 3 years since I was able to wear 36" pants. This past weekend I went shopping and at the time 36" were still tight, but by today (Thursday) they fit.   My goal is 34" and I would like to thank all of you here for the support you have given me and the experiences shared between us. I have been working out really hard for 5 weeks strictly following BFL principles.  They work, plain and simple.&nbs...

Why Am I Here?

Why am I here? There are many reasons and probably I won't be able to cover them all.  I did the 1999 challenge and had amazing results, but they were short lived.  In looking around this site, I am sure this is true of a lot of other people.  They work hard for 12 week in the BFL and end up with super results only to go back to their old ways and gaining the weight back. This time is different. Why? It is different this time becau...

Mid Week

This is the 5th week since I began the program and I believe this is the first time since I started that at a midweek point I am where I should be weight wise. I have followed my eating plan to a T.  Eating the right foods at the right time in the right quantity.  I am doing my 6 am workouts. Each of the previous 4 weeks I have reached my weekly goal, with some very hard work on Thursday and Friday, but this week is going especially well...

Avoiding TOXINS

We are bombarded with toxicity daily in our lives.  From our environment, to the food we eat, to the people we come in contact with.  We could pretty much control our food intake. Even buying organic foods is good but sometimes you have to worry about the soil it was raised in and the rain that fell on it (acid rain).  We have some control of toxic people that we come in contact with during the day.  Avoid toxic thoughts from ...

I am Really Worried - Football Season Approaching

It getting to be that time of year.  The days are growing shorter, that air a little cooler.  That means one thing -FOOTBALL.  We have the Saturday tailgates at our local college.  We have pro football that was once played on Sunday, and Monday Night, now includes some Thursday or Friday games.  With Football there is food and beer, and friends and parties.  I hope I can withstand the pressures that this ti...

Week 4 Roadblock

Well, this weekend I will have reached week 4 of my 12 week program.  The first 3 weeks everything was going great.  Ate well, worked out well and was losing the weight I wanted.  Sunday was my free day for eating, and I happened to have baseball tickets for a suite at our local Triple A baseball team.  I ate and ate- two hotdogs with chili, some meatballs, perogies, one beer.  Maybe this was a bit too much.I have been str...

Week 4 Goals

Week 4 did not start off well considering how my off day on Sunday went.  By Wednesday I still wasn't progressing like I should have.  But some of the things I did during the week helped out tremendously.  First I drank water all day. I always had my container of water on hand wherever I went.  Even right after I would drink a protein shake I would have water.  I still worked out hard and kept to my schedule, but for the ...
