Rethink- Why the change?

Recently, over the last couple of weeks I have been thinking why am I doing all this hard work.  I am working out 6 days a week doing 3-4 days of cardio and 3 days doing weight training. I schedule all my meals and supplements.  Now don't get me wrong, I love the results that I am getting.  I love the way people look at me.  I love how the topic of conversation turns to talking about my workout regimen. But I rethink why-why-why???

It should not be just so I could look like I do or feel like I do.  It has to be for a different reason.  I even think about people who say that they are doing it for their family, children, or loved ones. These are great reasons and I applaud you for making the changes you are making. Yeah, I want to be as healthy as I can be as life goes on and I age, but there should be an underlying reason for change.

To work out just to work out after a while makes no sense.  A couple months ago I was at the shore in Ocean City Maryland and I was watching a group of 4 guys in the ocean with wet suits on a surf type board with a parachute type of device attached a shoulder harness.  These guys were probably going 30 miles per hour out in the ocean hitting some killer waves having the time of their life.  As I was watching this in amazement I said they are truely living life and having a ton of fun. They probably covered 15 miles during this surfing/sailing fun day.

In the past I skied, every year going out west to the big mountains.  I used to train with that goal in mind, to get into great skiing shape so when I finished my day skiing I would not be physically beat up.  Well I haven't skied in probably 5 years and that is sad. What I am trying to say is that we should work out with some other purpose in mind. It could be snow skiing, or water skiing, or rafting, moutain climbing.  I know a lot of you out there are doing marathons, most of the time for a certain cause, which I admire you for doing that.

In past blogs I have talked about my workouts and said that when I go to the gym I am there for one reason. I am there to workout and workout hard.  It is not a fun out, or a play out or a try out, it is work and I treat is as such.  I love my job and I love working out and what it accomplishes, but what do I do to really have some fun because of my workout and trying to get into great shape.

I think I need to reset some goals.  I need to plan a ski trip or do some conoeing, or kyaking, or mountain climbing.  I need to do things I never done before, things I never thought I would do. I need to stretch my boundaries and with this try to touch the lives of other people.

These past 18 weeks have been great and I have really enjoyed them, refocusing on getting the best body I could. But unless you go places you never been, and experienced new adventures, its just a big circle. And circles make me dizzy.  So set new and different goals. Do physical things you never thought you would. But to do these thing you must be in the best shape of your life and that starts here, with this great program. Go for those new goals and dreams! Good Luck to all.

I am rethinking some of my goals as well. Need to incorporate something different this time around. Great post.

Great work my friend! Yes, the life's higher purpose for joy and health! To live life, like there is no tomorrow! Skiing and riding the slopes is one way of letting go! To make the leg workouts, the cardio and all the nutrition pay for itself in one glorious day! I celebrate you for looking for new avenues to express your health and vitality! For in this light you shall be free from all limitations that were ever created in the cavern of your mind! I celebrate your freedom! Jeff
