Another life saved

From the moment I saw my first Chow Chow back in 1987 I was hooked.  He was cinnamon colored and looked like a big kitty cat or a small bear, depending on how you looked at him.  I was intriqued and knew that one day I would have at least one.

Don't laugh, but I had a name picked out for him years before we finally brought one into our family.  When we got him, it was like he'd always been with me.

We've had many chows since Bubba.  Time passes and unfortunately we last longer than our pets.

I don't recall when I first had the dream of having a chow chow rescue.  I know that it's been in my mind a long time, one of those dreams that won't quite leave.  If it happens, it won't be for years but that hasn't stopped me from doing what I can right now.

Yesterday morning my husband and I spent a couple of hours at the local animal shelter with a beautiful cream boy who we are calling Buddy.  Someone brought him into the shelter last week after seeing him be hit by a car.  He had a harness on so they gave him a couple of days for the owner to come claim him.  Because it was the holidays, he had a couple of days grace.

This particular shelter is a kill facility.  Buddy's time was up yesterday morning... we got there just in time.

I made a couple of calls to some contacts I've made over the years, and Buddy had a rescue to go to by the time we got back to the house.    By this evening, because of some well-placed photos on rescue boards, he has a new family.  His mom is ecstatic that he will be joining their family (they lost their 12-year old Toby in June)... and I will be sleeping the sleep of the just tonight.

What does this have to do with Transformation you ask?

Well, let me tell you.

Before I started taking care of myself, I never would have been brave enough to make those calls.  I never would have been brave enough to go down to the animal shelter and ask about him, had enough guts to ask them repeatedly to look in their computers and make sure that the "Time's up" mark be taken off his file.  I would never have had enough gumption to speak up for this boy.  He would have died.

He's not the only one that is still alive because I took control.  There's Chloe who now lives in Tyler, there's my very own Lucy who someone had dumped by the side of the road with her sister, there's Lola who we helped transport to her new home in Louisiana.

And then there's me.  I'm still alive because I took control.

How many will you save by taking charge of your life?

You only need to save one - YOU.

Be Brave. Take Control.

Act now before someone marks your folder "Time's Up".

Congratulations! That is awesome. It breaks my heart when poor innocent doggies have to die. I wish there was a way they could all be saved. I currently have a chow/shepherd mix named Sydney. She is 7. I'm a golden retreiver lover at heart but ended up with Sydney because of several turns of events. I love her to death. She is sooo sweet and sooo smart! She's every bit as awesome as the golden retreiver I had when I was a kid and that was a very tall order to fill!

What a great post and, yes, it has EVERYTHING to do with Transformation! Our souls and spirits come alive when we take control and take charge of our ver own lives. I love this story and it's a perfect example of how changing ourselves makes such an impact in this World. Thanks Michelle... You have such a beautiful way of writing your stories! Love to you~ kath
