These two lists are from the chapter Break Through the Illusion of Limitation in Guy Finley's book, "The Essential Laws of Fearless Living." "Always remember the following: If any want is the source of anxiety or sorrow, that want is yours and not Life's. If the want has pain, it is in vain."What Happens when you want what you want:You are often nervous and anxious because life may not cooperate with your pla...
Debby Stinton (creatinggoodness) is always saying there are no accidents.I have been searching for a project the last few years that would really inspire me and test my ability to produce results. I have found it in Kiva.An unsolicted email moved me to join T.com where I met Joe Pimental who introduced me to Brian Johnson who reviewed one of Alan Cohen's books, that prompted me to take a life coaching class with Alan and a team member menti...
Two years ago my Dad graduated to the next level. He served in the Air Force during WWII and we had an honor guard at his burial. The flag used in the ceremony was presented to us along with the shell casings from the rifle salute. Yesterday we raised that flag on the community flagpole in our neighborhood. As I was preparing and raising the flag, Mary Ellen noticed a man across the street that looked very much like my Dad ...
Years ago there was this silly little book with this title. More pictures than words and you were through it in about five minutes. Smartwool socks are an amazing product, though expensive; usually around $16.95/pair. There is an outfit on Ebay that is selling them for about $4/pair with the shipping if you buy 5 pairs. I got some last week and the are the real thing and work great. When you travel for several months y...
Mary Ellen is in Baltimore today, so I looked at her O magazine when it came in the mail. I haven't reviewed the, "A miracle course in Weight Loss", but the article on Vision Quest really caught my eye ;) They have a program that provides an eye exam and glasses for ten bucks in developing countries, pretty cool. The stat was that one in ten school kids need vision correction and for most, this 'luxury' is unattainable. ...
Each week we receive solicitations for charities. Instead of being lazy and just picking a few we know, Mary Ellen and I will choose one every week. We are grateful to have extra money after paying our bills and saving for retirement each month. We use credit cards for almost everything we buy to get points for something; but have never paid a finance charge in our 30 years of marriage. A real blessing. My pick f...
Year-end starts early for me as I will be leaving the country on 1 December and not returning until February. There is lots of excitement in getting everything ready that I have been preparing during the year. I'm looking forward to that jet fuel smell at DFW airport and all the possibilities of adventure that it brings to mind....
Hi Bob,Did you know that there is an effective and an ineffective way to express gratitude?Unfortunately, the ineffective way is far more common. It is sort of the default form of gratitude that mostpeople fall into. I was stuck here for a really longtime until I found a far more powerful way to practicegratitude, one that moved me into perfect alignmentwith abundance and greatly accelerated the Law of Attraction.First, let me talk about the...
Which way a thing changes depends on you. Warren MacDonald expresses this thought by saying: "How you see is what you get". I desire my whole life process to be an experience of constant joy, continuous creation, never-ending expansion and total fulfillment in each moment of now. I move away from every thought, word and action that is not is harmony with this. This embodies progress to perfection for me....
Wash day was yesterday and I had all my stuff unpacked. Denver is an amazing place to run because it is so dry; at least in October. I am into comfort so I started the race with sweat pants, sweatshirt and a windbreaker and hat. The windbreaker got peeled pretty quik, but the sweatshirt lasted until mile 2 and I ran the whole course with the pants. I run with a heart rate monitor and was planning to stay below 160, maybe h...
Every moment we have the ability to create a new experience for ourselves or Re enact a past one. This seems pretty basic, but how often are we on autopilot and just reacting vs. making a conscience decision? This year has had its share of challenges, but I can't remember one of them that didn't contain an opportunity and a blessing not yet obvious. I am grateful to look back through this decade and not have any regrets. I ...
Mary Ellen & I celebrated our 30th wedding anniversary on the 4th. We bought each other a tandem bicycle and have been enjoying working out together on it. Lots to be grateful for in those years and so much to look forward to....
Mary Ellen's car ran out of wiper fluid. While adding the fluid I checked the air filter and looked at the battery teminals. We are getting close to cold weather and needing the full efficiency of the battery. Corrosion on the terminals can really reduce the energy flow to the starter motor. Yes, there was some; so some steel wool fixed that and some vaseline before clamping the terminal back to help prevent it in the futu...
One of my favorite expressions when I became a stockbroker in 1987 was Christmas comes 13 times a year. The third Friday of every month(option expiration) and 25 December. Capital gains for the year stood at $101,680.00. It has been interesting year with lots of opportunity in many areas. The cool thing about this type of work is that I can do it while traveling. The next five expirations I'll be in Denver, New ...
What can be more exciting than opening your mailbox and finding a letter from the IRS? This audit by letter claimed that I had not reported dividend income of $43,000.00. They wanted about $20,000 is tax, interest and penalties. The only other time I got audited was when my stockbroker in 1984 did not report my IRA contribution and I actually had a sit-down audit over a $2000 deduction. This error was also the result of an i...
Starting yesterday afternoon, we have had lots of thunderstorms running through town and now a medium steady rain has settled in. Of course it isn't from Earl, but the timing is right. We had a rain deficit last month, so this is a chance to fill the lakes back up after all the hot weather lawn watering. This is the kind of rain we used to get in NJ when I was a kid for all the holiday weekends. Used to stop about Monday a...
Being a CFP, you do a lot of reading about financial stuff and the economy. These three articles offer some insight to current challenges and opportunities: 1) Public pensions and our Fiscal Future by Arnold Schwarzenegger http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052748703447004575449813071709510.html?mod=rss_Today%27s_Most_Popular FDR and the lessons of the Depression by Meg Sullivan http://newsroom.ucla.edu/portal...
This is a term that I have heard used in the last couple months to define the capability to see a project through completion. This year has presented a lot of challenges, but I am happy to have kept my focus and concentrated on what needed to get done in my life. Often that requires foregoing some distractions that are enjoyable but time consuming....
I was looking for a new country to visit in January. During my visit to Sabah I was asking where is some interesting diving these days and East Timor came up. Turns out there are only two ways to fly there; one from Darwin Australia and the other from Bali Indonesia which is where I am spending Christmas with Mary Ellen. I ordered a lonely planet guide book from Amazon.com and it shipped out within a week. I received the bo...
This looked like something that would help with marathon training. There are some interesting videos on their website about endurance bike races where the elliptigo has been successfully used. Just from a few short rides, it is a great cardio workout, much more intense than a stationary elliptical trainer. Lucy is thrilled with this new workout opportunity. http://www.transformation.com/Siambobe/video/3114...
