Lessons from Dory

Having a young child, Don and I often get the opportunity to watch children's movies. Over and over and over..to the point where we can often quote most of the dialog to the movies. Kids movies these days are often filled with little tidbits of one-liners for the adults.

One of my favorite movies is Nemo. The story of the little fish with a little gimpy fin who challenged the rules and his loving father who went across the ocean to find him. Along his way, Nemo's dad(he's a clown fish..but not really all that funny..hehe) meets up with Dory. Dory is a memory-challenged sailfish who is often lost and confused and doesn't know who she is. At one point, they lose an item down into a dark abyss and Nemo's dad is afraid of the darkness....litte Dory says this line as she swims down and down into the darkness...

just keep swimming just keep swimming just keep swimming

Ultimately by conquering the fear of the abyss they find their needed item and return to the sunfilled waters above the abyss.

Conquering fears, facing the abyss in your journey, and having the confidence that on the other side of the abyss lies a gloriously beautiful ocean, can serve as good reminders that everyone's journey to self-realization is different. We might wander around like Dory, we might be scared like Nemo's dad, but if we reach out for help, depend on ourselves, get a little guidance from our friends, knowing that in the end we will be a new and whole person.

DON'T BE AFRAID..

JUST KEEP SWIMMING!
