Day 12 - Secret Eating
During the work week, I have no problem sticking to my tranformation diet and excersise plan. I get in a routine: Get up early and hit the gym, come home and make a healthy breakfast, shower and drive to work. Mid-morning I have a Myoplex Ready to Drink Shake. At noon, I eat a healthy lunch...then at 3:00 or so I have a Protein Bar. I drive home from work around 4:30...when I get hom I start getting dinner together for my family...we usually eat around 5:30 or 6:00. After dinner I relax, fill in my food and excersise journal, and check in on this good website. At about 8:30 or 9:00 I make a Protein Shake and then hit the hay shortly thereafter. It's really very easy...I just go on automatic pilot.
My problem kicks in about 5:00 on Friday, when the weekend finally gets here. For the past 10 years or so, I've used food as a was to relax. After a hard week of solving problems and counseling with my clients, taking care of my 3 kids (my wife does most of this), and being involved with church committees and other things in the community...I feel like I'm shouldering a world of responsibility. To escape that pressure, I order a huge pizza, make some popcorn, and get out a 1/2 gallon of Rocky Road, and blop down in front of the TV for about six hours. I block eerything else out and just make myself forget all the pain in the world.
Of course, what I'm doing is using food as an escape...and that is a very destructive habit...one that I am going to break. This weekend, if I get restless and ancy, I'm going to try and find relaxing things to do that don't involve food. Maybe I'll take a walk, listen to some music, watch a movie, or write a letter. I may just have to close my eyes and pray!
This is a major challenge for me, but one I feel I can overcome.
I hope your day is going great! Thanks for reading.
God Bless!

Great post! I am certain that you can overcome this obstacle. I will be praying with you. You can do this! Prayer will definitely get you through this one. God bless you always, Kimberly
Reading your post was like reading my story - that is me to a "T." I tend to do fine all week with a structured plan and activities to keep me busy, but then the weekend rolls in and I find myself "rewarding" my good behaviors all week and wanting to relax with food. It especially happens when I'm tired and feel like I need a "pick me up" but I, too am working on finding other ways of unwinding at the end of the week or the end of the day. I will keep you in mind and think, "If TedBell can do it then so can I!" Thanks for your post...
