Day 26 - Annoying People

I work with a guy who is one of those people I can't stand.  Up until this point, the guy has pretty much been able to eat what he wants, without gaining an ounce. A couple of years ago he turned 30 and I guess his metabolism slowed down and he's been packing on a little fat.

He looked around and decided the best way for him to lose weight was the Atkins diet...or a shoot off from Atkins.  There are entire food groups he cannot eat.

Anyhow, he started the Atkins Diet about the same time I started this Transformation.   He asked me the other day how it was going...I told him thigs were great, I am feeling better and better all the time.  He asked me what kind of food I was eating...when I told him about the balanced diet and 6 small meals a day, he started to lecture me on how wrong my approach was.  This really annoyed me.

I told him I'm making a permanent change in my eating habits and lifestyle...I'm not just trying to lose a few pounds and then revert back to my old ways.  As such, I cannot exclude entire food groups from my diet...that's just not realistic for me.  He accused me of not having sufficient motivation to lose weight and of basically being weak.  At that point, I just walked away...if I stayed any longer, I would have opened a can of whoop-ass.

I guess the message here is don't let anyone talk you off your plan.  This "friend" of mine was trying to sabotage my efforts for soe reason.  I know there are people in your life tryingto do the same.  Don't let them bother you.  Just stick to your plan.

This guy has lost about 10 pounds...which is about what I've lost.  The difference is muscle.  I look at him and his arms and legs are these little tiny twigs...he has no muscle at all.  Much of the weight he is losing is the very muscle he really needs...he doesn't know it yet, but he's setting himself up for long term failure.  I wish him well...

I hope you're havng a fabulous Friday!

God Bless.

He might not have been trying to talk you out of doing your plan... he may have been trying to convince himself that what he is doing is better. One of those "me thinks he dost protest too much" situations, ya know? Just another way to look at it. I don't try anymore to "convince" people... our results will speak for themselves. Have a great day!

It's good to distinguish that those are his issues, not yours. Walking away without opening that can was a good thing. ;) Now, the next step is not to let his issues become a source of negativity in your world today. Good job--release it and let it go. :)

Ted, Take comfort in a couple things -- first (to throw stones) you can take some evil comfort in knowing that the guy you don't like is doing one of the most dangerous diets ever. Second, just look at the results. You said it yourself. You feel great, he looks sickly. You're winning! In the end we should support one another, but to be honest, there's always going to be "that guy" that no matter how giving and forgiving we are is just going to burrow under our skin. Take comfort in the fact that you're right and he's wrong. He'll want to eat bread pretty soon and when he does, all that fat's coming back!

Have you ever tried to do a cerious workout when on a low carb program - Is don't work because you have not carbs to help fuel you. A huge portion of what he had lost is water weight because carbs like to hang onto water molecules. He is probably in a constant state of dehydrations. You keep fighting the good fight and wehn he tires of his program and gains all the weight back then may be he will learn GO GO GO !
