Bill's post
An Update on My Goal, and a Reminder about Yours
First the update: I came ever so close to reaching my Healthy Holiday Challenge performance goal a few days ago in the Las Vegas Marathon/Half Marathon. My specific target was to run six miles in under an hour. And at the 6 mile mark, my training partner Heidi hit the stopwatch and it said... exactly... 60:21!!
Oh my gosh... missed it by thaaat much!
As we continued on, towards our next goal which was completing the half marathon, Heidi got to hear all about how close we came to achieving that goal and how we missed it by only 22 seconds! I mean to be so close, but come up short... I was a little disappointed at that point.
Goal setting and achieving is a big deal to me. It's not about competition or comparison with anyone else -- it's about personal growth, reaching higher, and doing the hard work which is necessary for positive results. It's all those things which help us move forward on our journey of Transformation. The goals are milestones or measuring points along the way.
By mile 9, Heidi and I had talked through the temporary disappointment and I was ready to let go of my regret (why didn't I try harder back on mile 2?!) and make the shift to a positive focus. There was significant progress; I had bettered my time in the Denver event over that distance by six minutes. I had more fun in my training workouts, and gave a more focused effort in the five weeks leading up to Las Vegas.
By mile 12, I realized that despite how challenging making the change from a powerlifter/bodybuilder to a half marathon runner has been, I knew I was in the process of doing it. And that is really exciting because it opens up a new world for me in terms of being able to have fun and participate in a completely different kind of healthy activity as I go through my 40-something years.
By the time we crossed the 13.1 mile mark about all I was feeling was gratitude. Grateful for my friend Heidi who helps me so much with these marathons; thankful for all the new friends I made along the course that day; blessed for the mature mind that allows me to make the decision to be in Las Vegas and do something healthy like this (it wasn't always that way! =); and of course, grateful to God that I have a body and the energy that will do something like this. It's really kind of incredible when I consider it.
By the way, this Las Vegas Marathon was something else! There were 28,500 runners all total (there were about 9,000 in the Denver Marathon). The course was up and down the strip where all the big hotels and casinos are. There were bands and celebrations all along the course. Showgirls, white tigers, a Blues Brothers band and a half-hour long fireworks show greeted each runner at the starting line. It was clear that the other runners were having a good time and it was fun to see so many people on the move, being healthy and happy.
So anyway, what do you do when you come close to achieving a goal, but you don't quite get there? Well of course, you try and try again. There's another organized run this weekend, this time in Los Angeles, that I'm going to try to talk Heidi into. =)
That's it for my update, and here's my reminder... we have just three weeks left to go in the Healthy Holiday Challenge. Now is the time to give it all you've got! How close are you to achieving your specific, measurable goals? Are you on track with your workouts and nutrition? Are you checking in with your group to share how you're doing mentally and emotionally? Are you regularly counting your blessings and sharing your gratitude lists? And if so, are you truly doing it from the heart - are you able to center your attention and awareness deeply and feel your appreciation? And are you committed to finishing what you started?
Let me know how you're doing and if you need help, be sure to ask your group leader, or any one of the many people here in the community whom you might resonate with or look up to because of the results they've achieved so far. I guarantee you'll find a lot of authentic support, and genuine care when you reach out to your fellows here at transformation.com.
Okay that's it for now! Until next time...
Sincerely,

Oh my gosh... missed it by thaaat much!

Bill my congrats to you getting so close to your goal ! ! Wow- what a bunch of people! I can see the energy thru you and Heidi's eyes , and feel it through your words. A thank you for sharing this. - Terri -
Thanks Bill that was just the encouragement I needed!! Great job!
OH, MAN!!! I had considered running in Vegas too (I even considered the option to get married on the course...ONLY in Vegas, right??)! I'm so happy that you got SO CLOSE to your goal. You inspire all of us to keep on going and remind us that progress is the key! Congratulations to you on Las Vegas, and I'll bet you'll do even better in LA!!! Love ya, Bill. XOXO
So inspiring to see that you have gone from bodybuilder to half marathon MAN! This is encouraging to me as I train for my first 26.2!!! Best of Luck in LA,, I KNOW you can do it! :)
Outstanding! Thank you for sharing your progress. Thank you for calling us to refocus and add more intensity to our HHC programs now that we are a few weeks away. I totally agree, "We only fail, when we stop trying." You are a very determined person and I know that you will reach your goal soon. THANK YOU for your love and example - The Best to You in Transformation - Yoly
Way to go dear Bill and beautiful Heidi! Thank you for sharing your progress...and providing your guidance. So glad that you had so much fun...thank you for taking a few extra precious seconds to capture special moments with us. Thank you for being such an inspiration by authentically leading the way...showing us that success is a personal standard, reaching for the highest that is in us, becoming all that we can be...gratefully transcending . There are no limits to our capacity, because we have the infinite Divine within us, God's Abundant Blessings...with loving starjumps of JOYous GRATITUDE, Diane
I cannot believe how many folks ran this. I'd feel sooooo clostraphobic around that many folks. Good for you, leading us from the front. I have to say that's probably the single thing I love about you most. Your doing it, not talking it! Have a great Holiday and hopefully by Denver I'll be able to "hang" with ya during that FULL MARATHON. I'm working my little pistons every week to keep up. : ))
Great Job Bill. You know it is interesting. When you let other people know your goals and your progress, it sure helps us achieve them. Even when we fall short, which we all do, by expressing our challenges we draw enegry somehow..I am also a Dan Sullivan alumni and I remember in his cd's he would continually do this. I followed you in BFL and read your book. Sorta lost track of you for a while..But love the site and have already made some great friends..I am in need of another transformatin..I am just getting started..All the best to you..
Well done Bill! I had a similar experience with my 10K run, I wanted to do it in under an hour but managed 1:02:47!! I was so determined to not feel disappointed because that is the farthest I have EVER run! I have an anaerobic threshold of a couple of minutes!!! So as soon as I put on my training shoes I am hitting glycogen stores!! HA HA! I am proud of doing it and accept that this is the start of something I actually enjoy! It's all in the bigger plan....
Congrats Bill!!! I am SO Proud of YOU~! You are such a Blessing! Love You! Shari
What's left to say other than ........... BILL ROCK'S!!!!!!
Congratulations Bill. You are working hard and achieving incredible progress. By the way, when qualifying for the Boston Marathon, the only marathon in the US with a qualifying requirement, you would have been given that 22 seconds. Those are their rules. In any case, I am excited for you. ~Brooke
Bill, you continue to inspire us and share with us in your journey. It is so refreshing to know that we're not alone in our journeys, and that through talking through the disappointments (rather than eating through them) we can continue with forward progress and gratitude for the lessons that are afforded us. AWESOME TIME!! Love you bro, Kelli
I hate the fact you missed your goal by 21 seconds but there are many members who miss there goals and give up. It's nice to hear how someone can come so close, pick up the pieces and carry on. Congrats to your accomplishments so far this season. You inspire each of us to be better and better each day.
Way to go Bill! I have faith that you will reach that goal soon enough! xo Kim
Amazing, Bill... and it is so good to find that we... me too even... can change in our second half of life, so many of us here and with your example of striving for a hard goal, doing everything to reach it, enjoying the process, missing it by a sliver of time, and working it through to gratitude, well... is that not what the transformation is all about? Dreams, 'impossibilities' as defined previously overcome, faith, friendship support, working out disappointment into motivation and peace inside, and sharing your truth so transparently that others are drawn into it. Bill, on so many levels, simply by your life and your way of living into it, you change my own, and for that I will be forever grateful. It is the simple things, not easy but simple and clear and experienced, that God uses our lives to transform us, thank you for leading this team as you do. God bless ~ Trish
What a blog Bill, your not to proud to speak out about a short coming, why because you want to learn from it and by that all of us do as well and that what is SO wonderful about this community is we all support each other and show love and as the founder of this AMAZING community I couldn't think of a better example because of how you just said..Try Try again :-) Love you Bill God bless you :-) The G-Train :-)
What an inspiration you are! Thanks for sharing the pictures! Pam
Thank you sooooooooooo much Bill. Your words are always so uplifting, and just what I need to hear.
Bill, When you find that you don't make a goal, Always know we are there with you. You lead us by your fantastic example. You have never let us down. Now go reset that goal and do it again. YOU CAN DO IT!!!!!! Jim
You cut a minute a mile off your 6 mile time in just 5 weeks?! That's amazing!! You rock!
holy moly Bill!! Those get-a-way sticks are getting FAST! Congrats on the awesome time and I bet you'll be even faster in dallas......... ~Sandy~
Hi Bill, great blog! You are almost there! You will do it. My hhc has been tremendous, I have been able to get outside myself, thanks to all the great people here. I am achieving my goals and am very pleased. I am pretty sick right now, but I see this as an opportunity to listen to my body and maintain my momentum through adversity. I am grateful for your story about Las Vegas, it brings back good memories of Denver.
I love that the only person you compare yourself to is yourself. What an awesome accomplishment! Congrats!
Bill you are an inspiration, I needed that about sharing how you dealt with falling a bit short! You gave it your all and that is what is so important! You have made great progress....is a full marathon on the horizon? Holly
Great Run Bill, I love the pics and the fact that goal setting is one thing we can all be thankful that not only we are setting goals, but you are setting goals also. It is great to see the teacher doing more than just standing before the class. This is why I'm trying so hard to be not just a follower of Bill Phillips, but an example. Even though I have a lot of work ahead of me and a long hard battle of adversities and more to come. I would like to share a quote by Thomas Paine; " I love those who can smile in trouble, who can gather strength from distress, and grow brave by reflection." " Tis the business of little minds to shrink, but they whose heart is firm, and whose conscience approves their conduct, will pursue their principles unto death." Thanks Bill for helping each and one of us to pursue our principles and goals. John
Way to go!
Bill reaching higher is what I think this journey is about. The fact that you are reaching toward this huge transition from body builder to marathoner is so big but what most touches me is your willingness to share your humaness and your journey openly. I applaud your "choice" to not let your disappointment with not making the goal ruin your experience. What I am most inspired by is your willingness to let that go, knowing you will continue to strive for it, and you allowed yourself to enjoy the rest of the experience in gratitude. That deeply inspires me. Many blessings to you Bill. Thank you for everything. ~Roberta
Amazing! What a great story and I'm super impressed. Going from body builder to 1/2 marathoner is a phenomenal transition. And your 21 seconds off reminds me of Lance Armstrong's phrase "every second counts". Here's to smashing 60:00 minutes in your next race! Thanks for all you do ... you da man!
Outstanding Bill! Thanks for being such an amazing leader you never cease to change others! Much light. Chris
BILL THAT IS TOTALLY AWESOME YOU ARE SUCH AN INSPIRATION TO ME! YOU TOTALLY ROCK! GREAT JOB! LOVE AND HUGS ANNA
That is amazing! You have come so far in the last year with your running. I remember how you were blogging about having body builder legs and now you have competed in several marathons. That is quite the accomplishment. THAT right there is what you need to be focusing on not the 21 seconds. That is an amazing feat and shows how you can change yourself from what you weree to what you can be if you try. Stacey
You ROCK bill! I am so grateful that you share your journey - you are an inspiration to me. I enjoy watching you become a runner and relate, as this is a new journey for me too! Often I find myself saying, Who would've thought? I love my life. BJ
Come On Bill..... that is FANTASTIC!! I an super proud of you! I have no idea how you are bouncing back from each race but I love to see you go and go and go and go!! :)
Bill, for me my marathon has been walk a mile after finishing my chemotherapy. I feel I won my marathon and achieved my goal even small, it was great felling achieving it. Way to go Bill. I hope to meet you soon.
Beautiful pictures Bill! Thank you for sharing your Vegas experience with us and all that it meant to you -- the process you went through with your thoughts and how you practiced the lessons you teach us...by example. I appreciate and learn so much from you. Love, Me
Awesome progress, Bill!! Thank you so much for sharing this!!
Bill, way to ROCK!! The race continues toward your own personal best of breaking six-miles in under one-hour. Goodluck this weekend ,hope you do it!!! Congrats also to Heidi for her phenomenl success. Great job to both of you. BD
Congratulations Bill....excellent blog, right from the heart as per usual!
Bill you bettered your Denver time by 6 minutes already!!! WoW! That is such strong work. You have trained and acheived so much since Denver. I am so inspired by the way you get your goals in focus and work so hard to accomplish them and if you don't quite get there, well you don't get mad, you don't spit nails you appreciate the accomplishment you made and know it is only going to get better for the next try. What A wonderful example and thanks for teaching me something about what my spirit can be today. ~Dave
Awesome blog and what a great accomplishment! I'm running a 5K on Sundaywhich was one of my goals during this challenge and I hope to do it under 30 minutes. Yoly (ikigai) will be running it with me. ~Shannon
I am impressed at your running, but even more impressed at your open heart and the way you sincerely put your words into writting and share with us all your experiences, knowledge, and gratitude. 3 weeks from today is 2010, that means you can shave off 1 second a day....:-). Best of luck and I hope you have a Merry Christmas!! - gav
Thanks for being yourself and encouraging us all... The pictures are wonderful. 22 seconds off is an amazing achievement.I love how you share your feelings and your mindset and how your thought process happens. God bless you . You will hit it your next run! Keep Working it.. Love, WRKNIT,Lynn
Good grief - I'm surprised you could cut through that crowd fast enough to do what you did!!! Thanks for encouraging us to keep on keeping on. Winter certainly is a tough time to STAY reminded of that. Bob is still training for another half Jan 31 - Calloway Gardens/Pine Mtn GA with Steve. .I think I'll "shiver" this one out!!! Great going, chief!!! Johnnie
Hey Bill. Thanks for sharing your successes and especially your failures with us. To quote Jean Vanier: "I am struck by how sharing our weakness and difficulties is more nourishing to others than sharing our qualities and successes. There is a fundamental tendency to become discouraged in community. We either believe that others are better than we are, or they don't have to cope with the same problems. The discovery that we are all in the same boat and all have the same fears and weariness, can help us to continue. People are nourished by humility, because humility is truth."
That sure was alot of people! What an achievement you did! I can see why that would be so frustrating, but you're right. You have accomplished so much in the past year in changing your body to become a runner! Thank you for setting the example and for all you do! I am definately committed to finishing this challenge!!! This will be my first ever!! I'm so excited!!! ~ Tina
Congrats on the run!! Staying focused here and can't wait to update after 3 more weeks!!
Whoooooooo Hooooooo!!!! Bill I am so proud of you! This paragraph was particulary meaningful to me------"By mile 9, Heidi and I had talked through the temporary disappointment and I was ready to let go of my regret (why didn't I try harder back on mile 2?!) and make the shift to a positive focus. There was significant progress; I had bettered my time in the Denver event over that distance by six minutes. I had more fun in my training workouts, and gave a more focused effort in the five weeks leading up to Las Vegas." ------You perfectly describe the feelings of falling a little short of your goal, temporary regret, then an amazing and spirit lifting attitude shift--appreciating where you have been, where you are and where you are going!!!! I love it! You and I ARE truly blessed as is this whole community...We just have to keep our eyes and hearts open. And that Heidi is a pretty awesome lady isn't she? My heart is full when I think of the friends and positive changes I have made during this process of Transformation.....but the possibilities in front of me take my breathe away! Love you Bill!! ~ Aimee
Congrats on your awesome run. You will definately make your time for the next event. You really are inspiring. Tonia
Dear big brother, I like it so much how you write your blogs from the heart. I really appreciate and admire your style of writing. And, although you feel you missed your goal by 22 seconds, it's ok. We are all human and are entitled (smile) I've been battling a chest cold for the last few days, but still here. Thought about you the other day , and imagined you running another marathon elsewhere, before you even mentioned anything on the radio last night. And, you came out and said you did another marathon in Vegas. i was like ...WOW! I didn't even know you really did 1, and I just virtually visioned you recently doing another marathon before you said anything, and I never knew anything at all. Well, so much for my gum flapping here (smile) I'm not feeling that up to par today, so I'm going to get a nap and get to the gym hopefully later on today, and jump back on T.com and hang out tonight in the community. Can't wait to see everyone and you again in Dallas (smile) Love you, Midnight Cardio Guy Shawn Drewry P.S. Thank GOD still on track with nutrition. food stamps just granted me a $200 extension for this month but might be denied for next month. I'm trying
Bill! Do you realize that if you just shaved off 4 seconds per mile for those first 6 miles, you would make your goal?!! Just 4 itty bitty seconds! What your story reminds me is that so many times we (I) give up or quit when the end is SO CLOSE! You have totally inspired me to keep on going and give it that little extra push that will make the goal possible. Thank you and congratulations on your run! ~ Jen
Bill I so admire your spirit!! I absolutely can relate to the personal goals!! You have my respect Bill You have come such a long way a=in such a short time with your running goals!! way to Go!! Marty
Love your energy, Bill!!! love Vegas, too. I would love to run that one:). So happy you shared your success with us as well as how important goals are and how we need to keep moving forward. This HHC has been HUGE for me emotionally. So while I'm doing just Okay in the eating area I am doing AMAZING with my emotions. I am transforming my thoughts which are now helping me transform what I put in my mouth!! I PROMISE you and myself and everyone to give it MY ALL these next 3 weeks an REACH my goals!!!! I would LOVE to see you in Dallas!!! I already have it in my planner...so I MUST get going!:) Thanks again, Bill for all you do. Having this community in my life is such a blessing. i am grateful. Love, Les
Mr. Phillips! Thank you for the uplifting experience! in fact after reading it I want to go lift a bunch of weights!!! Great work! Jake~>out
Great job Bill-Keep up the great work.
Hi Bill - you've made amazing improvements! Chris Rile told me it was FREEZING in Las Vegas. I hope next year for our T.com event there the weather will be just a little warmer. Thanks for paving the way to healthier living by your example. Merry Christmas! ~Dennis
Way to go Bill. There is always next time to try and improve your goal. But to me that was a great time. Don't be too hard on yourself. Keep up the good work.
Wow!! That a lot of people. I am hoping in the jan17th pf chang 1/2 marathon in Pheonix I can run it in 3 1/2 hours. I know that is slow but if I can do it I will be proud because long distance running is not my thing and just found out about it, so 4 weeks of hard training only but would love to make it a goal and make that 3 1/2 hour a challenge to actuallly do better.. So I am going for it. So excited about the whole thing. You are an inspiration. Thanks Gretchen
Bill, I love the picture what a sight to see 28,000 healthypeople on the Las Vegas Strip. Now that's a transformation. My HHC is going great I have made huge strides in communicating my gratitudes and following through on my healkth committments Thank you for having this community it has changed my life forever Bill B
Awesome Job BIll!!! Way to GO!!!! ~Tammy
That is awesome Mr. Phillip's. 6 miles in just over 60 minutes! Nice work. Coach Stoney just asked us if we are ready to step it up a notch and to write 2 or 3 action steps. I have one more date night to set up with Melissa. That will complete one goal. I am planning it today. WHOO HOO! I would like to up my intensity on the HIIT. Winter time can throw some circumstances at us that does not allow me to run outside like I enjoy doing, but I can get an intense workout on the bike though. It is all in my mind. I have learned that over this past year. Thanks for sharing your journey. I always love hearing about people's success and growth. I love you. You are one great man. Shawn
Super job in Las Vegas. Personally, I would deduct 22 seconds for just trying to negotiate through 28,500 people at the start. That's a lot of feet pounding the pavement. Sounds like it was a fun time. Sharon
That is awesome Bill, way to be an example, that looks like alot of fun for sure. My spirits are VERY high during the HHC Bill, I am happy and though a bit cold and wanting to hibernate I am still doing my workouts, sharing myself, helping others in the HHC group and continuing with an attidue of gratitude. I love this community and being a part of it, being the change and keeping the spirits high. Thanks for this Bill, this is truly the happiest December I think I have ever had. Being giving and of service is truly bringing me to life. Thanks my friend. You and Heidi look healthy, well and vibrant. Way to go ~Thia~
I definitely know what you mean when you said goal setting and achieving, I set a goal for myself at the Denver Marathon and I achieved it although it wasn't by myself but I still was able to achieve my goal. Glad to hear you did so well. Love you ~ jerome
Fantastic effort on coming soooo close to your goal!!!! I have no doubt in my mind that you will blow right by it next time :) Have a wonderful weekend, and thank you for being you! Liz
"Goal setting and achieving is a big deal to me." I think I envy you a bit here, Bill. It seems that my biggest challenge in life and here at T.com is that as soon as I set goals, I immediately start sabotaging them as if to prove that I don't deserve to achieve them and "who am I kidding." I've come a long way in this regard since I joined T.com, but man, I still have a long way to go. I know that only I can change this hardcore lack of self-worth and habit of giving-up, but at this very moment, I think I'm a little jealous of you! You did a great job of turning your initial feelings of disappointment into yet another inspiring insight that you've shared here. Thanks so much. Love and gratitude, Jackie
Bill, Congratulations on coming thaaaat close to your goal!! I would consider it met since it didn't read 61:00, you were still in the 60:. I have really been focusing hard on making this Thanksgiving & Christmas Season one of the best. I've returned to a few of the assignments and really worked them hard. We spent T-Day with the in-laws and had an awesome time. We've spent a large amount of time with people that we've not spent much time with for a few years. My kids feel & see the difference and my hubby is thrilled. I am working on the physical and nutrition, but I need to work harder at intensity. Setting more solid goals. One goal I have is to be in the best physical shape of my life by Dallas, but more importantly, be very, very healthy in my mind and spirit. Thank you for giving us that push, that support, and all the tools we need to reach those goals. I love you and I am most grateful for this entire community! Carolynn
Bill, that's truly amazing!! CONGRATS TO YOU! I'm only 39 years old and I would lose my lunch if I did 6 in 60... but I'm working toward it and thank you for the inspiration!! !:) YAHOOOO!!!
Bill you sound excited...... seconds short or not, it is amazing that you are making it happen!! Thank you for always leading by example and working hard at something you love warmest wishes Rebecca
Awesome stuff Bill! I love how you are a man of action, always leading by example. All the best for this Sunday. I believe you are going to achieve your 6 in 60! I'm having a great time doing the HHC and working with the amazing people in my group. 3 weeks to go to finish the HHC and close out a wonderful year! Then onto an even more wonderful 2010! Cheers, Paul.
Bill, I love seeing the side of you wanting to pull your hair out!! I would've totally felt that way. It's nice to be able to relate to that kind of stuff. I'm really just so happy for you and how well things are coming along with your running. Thanks for your example and sharing it with us!! Lisa Neal =)
I have been trying to hit the 5 mile in one hour mark...I am still a long way from doing it. It took me forever to get to 4 miles per hour. But I know I will get there if I don't get too old first LOL Running against yourself is so much harder than running in competition because you can say the other guy was just better...But when the other guy is you...well all your excuses are gone. All we can do is our best everyday and forget about how we look and just understand we are getting healthier every day even if the times dont show it... Love you Bill....Keep on doing Gods work my friend...
Love your attitude Bill! Thanks for your sharing and your example. InJoy, Dianne
I love having these goals Bill! It really gives us something specific to work for that is so challenging and healthy! I love being open, aware, and listening to our heart energy. By letting our training fall into place naturally and having a strong intention, we will always have something healthy to reach for! I love it Bill and I am so thankful! I truly have the best training partner EVER! We have so much fun combined with really good and healthy workouts! So this weekend? Let's do this! We can! Yes we can! It is on our arm...6 miles in 60 minutes! :-) Thank you and I Thank GOD for our friendship! You are so special in my life! xoxoHeidi
I am glad you did not let the seconds over detour you from finishing...In the past that is what I would have done. I had a 3 part goal..they were not huge goals but things I knew were a challenge for me but totally doable. I accomplished 2 of the 3 and realized I could not physically do the 3rd (5 military push ups) because I injured my shoulder at work and could not lift my arm over my head let alone hold any weight. I praised myself for the 2 I hit way ahead of schedule and will get those military push up when I can do it. I am setting up small goals to aim for THE BIG ONE...a 3 day breast Cancer walk in San Diego....We have to raise $2300.00 just to walk and I have to get brave enough to fly and I have several walks and 2 triathlons in my date book to train. I am excited about my future goals and that makes the small unclaimed goal not as sad for me. Thank you BILL for this entire TRANSFORMATION You have a good heart! We need more of you in our world!!!
I think you're doing great. I have just started my transformation almost 3 weeks ago and am just now trying to hit 2 miles during my 20 minute aerobic interval training. Just going a mile without having to walk would be great for me at this point! A marathon has always been a dream of mine, that I'm sure I'll reach in time. I may give myself a year to get there, we'll see. As for right now, Jake and I are doing great. We're staying on track with our eating and exercise. We're doing our assignments. We're reviewing our Transformation Purpose lists every day. We're staying in touch with our group and group leader. We're inspiring friends and family to follow our example. We are determined to stay the course till the finish, completely assured that we WILL reach our goals! Thanks for the post, keep up your hard work and updating us along the way. Looking forward to the radio show! Amanda
That is amazing. Congrats on finishing your marathon. Remember you still have a little time for that six miles.
Thank you for voicing your experience of dealing with "frustration & regret" while demonstrating the value/importance of making the mental shift to a positive focus. I am slowly learning this principle you have been diligently trying to explain since you began this community, and I am truly grateful for your loving encouragement and motivation to mankind. Congratulations on the improved time & completion of what looks to have been a wonderful event!
congrats!! that is amazing how you set a goal and grabbed onto it and just came up a few second short!! I mean 10 minute miles are amazing one right after the next~I am training to run the Los Angeles Marathon in about 100 days and the challenge of that goal has me running this past past weekend I ran 14 miles and I still can not imagine doing 26.2 miles! But on 3/2110 I will amaze myself and actually run from Dodger stadium to Santa Monica pier because I am training and I know I will do it!
Thank you Bill for sharing this is a great reminder to stay on track for the next three weeks. Great Job on the run I applaud your dedication as running is not as easy as one might think. I once was told 99% of it is mental the other 1% is your legs. I struggle with the mental aspect and I am determined to not let it get the better of me. Have a great and blessed day.
Bill, Congrats on the huge progress! Wow! I wish I could run that fast! Wait, I feel a new goal coming on.... :) Sandy
ohhhh yeeaahhhhh !!!!!!!!!!!! thank you for this blog, you got me all FIRED UP FOR THE GRAND FINALE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Dear Bill... Well done! You are lucky, you have hair to pull out... I do not even have any hair left. Smile. I can relate to your frustration about missing the goal. My 18 week transformation goal was 8% BF and I got to 12.2% from 26%. My penalty for missing my goal was to eat a bug which I was going to do. My group leader Chris suggested that I consider helping others instead of eating a bug. What was your reward / penalty for your goal? I think you ought to celebrate... it is a tremendous feat that you have run 2 half a marathons in a span of about 7 weeks and still transitioning from a powerlifter/bodybuilder to a long distance runner. Way to go, Bill. Best~Prasad.
I am proud of you Bill..Thanks for leading the way!
Congrats on your SECOND of many half marathons! I love the pic of all the runners on the strip -- wow! Like you always tell us -- focus on the progress; not perfection. Don't beat yourself up for 21 seconds ! You are awesome! I love VEGAS!!! ~Janice
Way to go Bill!! 35 degrees! Thats Ice cold man! I am currently training to beat by Denver time by 8 minutes. As of now I am right on track. I am really excited for The Dallas Half Marathon! Congrats on running the Vegas half and thanks for everything you make possible here at T.com!! ~Bobby Grimes
Awesome job Bill! You did it! And you're not stopping here! Thanks for sharing, and the reminder of my goals for the healthy holiday challenge!
“I have missed more than 9000 shots in my career. I have lost almost 300 games. On occations I have been entrusted with the game winning shot… and missed. And I have failed over and over again in my life. And that is why… I succeed!”... spoken by Michael Jordan…Well that is not my name…nor is it Bill…But I can say…”I will succeed too!”...Because I am PERSISTENT. :)
I saw a video of you running in a marathon a while back... at the time you looked like a fullback/powerlifter wondering what you were doing in a marathon... It's refreshing to see the guy that leads the way the way in the community acknowledge that he too has set lofty goals and sometimes comes up short... 21 seconds short... but that was then... good luck in the next 3 weeks trimming off 7 seconds each week! 7 seconds closer to that goal... one week at a time...good luck my friend!.... JB
How awesome it that! Congratulations on cutting 6 minutes, that is incredible and here's to your next opportunity to lose the other tiny :21 seconds. Life is full of 2nd chances, glad you are showing us to keep going! I love your heart, Leslie
Thanks Bill for the "pep talk". That's just what I needed to finish up this Holiday Challenge. With moving next weekend things will get crazy but I know that with my Coach Miss C I'll be okay. I pray that I can physically be ready(foot injury) to run in Denver with you all next yr. Hey look at that you have inspired me to set a long term goal. Way to motivate Coach. Happy Holidays. Christi
Bill, Congratulations on your accomplishments... 6 in 60 is one of my goals as well. The most recent past hasn't been so clear for me (last two weeks), but as far as finishing what I have started---I certainly will do just that!!! Heidi-Nice job yourself--you are an awesome motivator and an inspiration as well. I am commited in giving these last 3 weeks all I got, then go into 2010 Stronger than ever, and it's all because of you, so maybe you missed it by a measly 21 seconds. But just think of how you have effected my, and so many other's lives here because of your enthusiasm, and drive (I will follow your lead forever my friend!!!!) THANK YOU for all you do--Love you much Bill, Brian
Congrats Bill! within 22 seconds of your goal!!! GOOD FOR YOU!!!!!!!!!!! Melanie
Hey Bill, how about you run the Santa Barbara Wine Country Half Marathon with us? It's on May 8th, and I'm putting together a team called "Transformation.com". Please feel free to register for the team and twist arm Heidi into coming too. I think I have Spencer & Bobbie committed to running it too.The password for registering on my team is "workoutguy". Clever, huh? > J im.
So, I am not alone in feeling like I could have done better.. for a few hours after a race. My first 1/2 marathon I finished 11/29 I set a goal of under 3 hours (I was walking it due to spine injuries, but nonetheless hauling through the course.) I finished in 3:00.28 seconds. Really 13.1 miles and I missed my goal by 29 seconds. Oh' well. What I did was to put Dallas on my calendar.. race day is my b-day by the way. AND I WILL beat my goal, easily by then! It actually inspired me more to not meet my goal, knowing that I needed to continue my hard work and grow stronger for my next race. I am saving my pennies to join you all there! Thanks for the inspiration.. once again! Mary
Go Bill! Nice! So close! You WILL shatter your goal! What impressive progress! I am happy to say that I am on track too! Haven't missed a workout (came close today, but I still made it!) Still sharing my feelings, my gratitude and I'm loving the new connections made! Thanks so much for offering this challenge! I AM LOVING IT!
Bill, thank you for sharing this wonderful experience with us. I appreciate your example that you set for us as a leader. Thank you for everything you do.
Yes! Amazing. Thanks for sharing your journey Bill. I loved how you were able to pull through with Gratitude. Way to go! 6 Minutes is huge. :) That sure is a lot folks running! Wow! I enjoying this leg of the journey very much. It is amazing the accomplishment and momentum gained in such a short and focused time. I love that fact that you are having a great time doing this too. Me too! Thanks Bill. Here's to achieving our dreams and exceeding our goals. In light and love, Jeff
Congratulations Bill for coming so close!!!!!!!!!!!! I get REALLY EXCITED reading and listening to you talk about this goal, as it is very similar to my own goal, and for very similar reasons. Our perspectives change so much as we mature and become less body-focused. We begin to look for other sources of fulfillment. I've had some foot issues that have slowed me down a bit in reaching my goal (6 miles in 52 minutes), but now I'm back on course to making it a reality (probably in January). Love you, my friend! > Jim.
Congratulations Bill on such incredible improvement! Guess I'm going to have to work harder! ~Beverly
Thank you for sharing your personal journey with us! Renelle xx
Hi Bill, I was thinking as I read your blog, "Wow he's able to talk after 6 miles. He's still having a conversation at 10 miles!" I would have been barfing on the sidelines and passed out at mile marker 1 ;) You did great!! It was only 22 seconds, you can easily shave that off on your next 1/2 marathon! Don't you like it how people like me can make such statements from the sidelines. Kind of like those armchair quarterbacks :) Seriously you did great and you will make your goal next time because you're that kind of person who will not stop until you do. It's a great trait to have.
Bill, thank you for leading by example..... You did AWESOME!! Thanks for your honesty and gracious heart. ~Elizabeth~
Thank you so much for sharing this - it is exactly what I needed today, and I'm sure what so many others needed as well! it is a wonderful goal you set for yourself to go from body builder to runner and you have my respect and admiration for how far you have come and for what you have accomplished :) Carolyn :)
So Bill! Did you start slow like Tracy recommended :) lol! Seriously though, congratulations on the 6 minutes shaved off your time. I appreciate a whole lot more what that means the more I challenge myself to take it to another level. I'm proud of you for what you're doing and truly appreciate being here to share it with you...and you look great!! So does Heidi!! love MaryPat
Congrats Bill! You did an awesome job. After seeing the photos above with all those wonderful people running, I would venture to guess that one of them at one time must have been in front of you holding you back LOL. 21 seconds is so close. Maybe if you had made your goal, you wouldn't have decided to go to the LA Marathon. See, just another obstacle turned into an opportunity. Good going. You keep me inspired to keep practicing my running. I wish it was warm in CO, would rather be running outside, but I'm still running. HHC has been a great thing! Am loving hitting my goals and intensifying my workouts to meet them. Waiting for the muscle to pop out more. Wish I had genetics like yours, but will do all that I can do and stay healthy.
Just awesome! Congratulations Bill! What an amazing run ~ You did GREAT! =) I am on track with sharing gratitude,, making healthy and nutritious choices, and training the best I can. Thank you for reminding us to keep checking in with our fellow team. I am definitely committed. And of course, thank you for another uplifiting, feel good, and awesome blog! =)
Each time that I read one of your posts I am reminded how truly human you are....I started withT.com in August 09...and did not go to Denver..I have never met you....and it is really easy to put you and all that you do on a really high pedestal.....Don't get me wrong..I have a great deal of respect for everything that you have achieved...It is just really nice to read that YOU also have so many things that you want to achieve...and that you sometimes struggle to focus on PROGRESS not PERFECTION....That you truly believe in all that you have created...I m honoured to be on this journey...Teresa
I always find the small statements you make that mean so much to me simply because it lets me know I am on the right path of progress. "....it's about personal growth, reaching higher, and doing the hard work which is necessary for positive results." Ongoing healthy changes ( hard work) that goes deeper and deeper. This weekend you own 6 in 60!!!
Congratulations on your outstanding achievement Bill. The glass is indeed half full, not half empty! Congrats to you too Heidi! Well done!!!! Your friend, Susan :)
OMG that picture of 28,500 people on the strip is amazing!!!! I thought Denver was huge! Sounds like such a great run! I am one of those who needs lots of external stimulation when running or I get too involved in thinking about how I'm "feeling" ...so this run would have been right up my alley! Congrats Bill on getting to within 22 seconds of your goal!!! Thats amazing! You & Heidi look happy, healthy and fit! So great!
Congrats Bill! I can feel your energy thru the words..thank you soo much for sharing this! God Bless & Hugs~~
