Improved Nutrition for Improved Results, Part 1
Dear Friends,On last night’s Transformation Radio show, we talked all about nutrition. Members of the community, including Champions, called in to share what is working for them and what they’ve learned through their personal experiences.
Make no mistake, nutrition is such a big part of the Transformation process. Food affects our mood, our awareness, our energy, our clarity and focus, in addition to being the key factor in determining our body composition (amount of muscle and fat). The way we eat can help us a lot, or hurt us a ton.
Following last night’s discussion and throughout today, I’ve received a record number of emails about this topic. And so I'm now posting Part 1 of a two-part series which looks at practical ways to improve your nutrition and your results.
There are three key questions I ask people when they come to me for nutritional advice about how they can become lighter and gain energy during their 18-week Challenge. The answers to these questions provide us with immediate and practical solutions – ones we can begin to implement right away. Here are those key questions, as well as some insight and answers.
1) Are you planning your meals ahead of time?
Last night Joe Pimental called in to the radio show to share what works for him. Planning is at the top of his list. “In my daily planner I write down what I’m going to eat, and I also make an entry afterward,” Joe explains. “I keep it very simple. I always have my next meal ready to go as I’m eating my current meal. Every two to three hours I know what my next meal will be. When I make a record of what I eat, it makes me more aware, and it keeps things real clear.”
"If we fail to consciously plan, we're unconsciously planning to fail."
I absolutely agree with Joe. I’ve discovered time and time again in my own life, that if I fail to consciously plan, I’m unconsciously planning to fail. Planning has always been one of the most important aspects of the health transformation programs that I’ve taught over the past two decades.I believe very strongly in utilizing a simple “plan-to-actual” eating journal (see an example page by clicking here). Few things bring about as much nutritional awareness as writing down what you plan to eat each day, the night before, and then writing down what you actually eat at each meal throughout the day. What this allows us to do is clearly compare what we’re intending versus what we actually do. If we’re very honest with our recordkeeping, we can course correct and fine tune our eating on a daily basis. You can begin planning tomorrow’s optimal nutrition today.
2) Are you keeping your environment clean?
This goes back to something we discussed in Assignment #7: The Power of Right Environments. The important point of that exercise is to increase our awareness of what we surround ourselves with. Are we setting the table for our success? Or are we setting ourselves up for self-sabotage?
Although our environments include people, places and things, and all of them factor into our health and well-being, perhaps the most important environment to being physically healthy is our very own kitchen cupboards and refrigerator. If it’s stuffed with unhealthy junk food, then it’s very likely that we will be too!
I learned a lot about this subject back in 2002 when I was working with Dr. Mehmet Oz and a couple dozen other health experts on a committee for the US Department of Health and Human Services in Washington, DC. Our group’s task was to combine our individual knowledge and insight in order to help identify causes of childhood obesity. From there, we worked together to develop solutions. Our committee’s research revealed how important environments really are. In schools, even when kids are educated about how to eat right, if they're surrounded by vending machines and junk food in the cafeterias, the kids still eat just as much candy and sugar as the kids who received no additional education about nutrition. Findings like this make it quite clear: Even educated kids struggle to do the right thing in the wrong environment. And so one of the solution-oriented initiatives that was offered to the Surgeon General at the time, Tommy Thompson, was a plan for creating right/healthy environments for kids in school.
On my flight home from that particular meeting, it popped into my head that we’re really no different than children when it comes to this issue. We also have a very difficult time doing the right thing in the wrong environment too. Likewise, it’s relatively easy for us to make the right choices in the right environment. And so I believe creating healthy spaces is just as important for us adults as it is for our nation’s children.
My call to action is to be vigilant and always on the lookout for unhealthy/toxic foods. Do whatever you must to keep them out of your kitchen!
Something that works well for me is to do a “sweep” of my environment every Sunday evening. I love to begin a new week with a clean kitchen, stocked up on fruits and vegetables, nutrition shakes, chicken breasts, fish, brown rice, low-fat cottage cheese, fat-free yogurt, and plenty of pure water (Fiji is my favorite!).
3) Are you including a nutrition shake in your program?
On last night's show, Joe, Penny, Stoney and I discussed how we are all getting good results with our nutrition shake meals. There's been a lot of interest in that topic around the site today, so I'm going to give a good, basic nutrition shake overview now.
A nutrition shake is like a milkshake or fruit smoothie that is rich with quality protein to help our muscles and immune system stay strong, and packed with vitamins, minerals, and other nutrients which our bodies need every day to produce energy, recovery from stress, and rebuild healthy new cells. A good nutrition shake should also include a healthy amount of quality carbohydrates; however, you definitely want to avoid smoothies and shakes which have more than 30 grams of carbs per serving, especially if one of your goals is fat loss. The best shakes have as much or more protein than carbs, and are low in sugar and fat.
Studies and countless real-world examples show that nutrition shakes make a real difference in the short and long term. In fact, a Harvard study, presented at the 2003 meeting of the North American Association for the Study of Obesity, showed that over a period of 10 years, people who had at least 2 nutrition shakes a day, in addition to a standard dinner, were 32.6 pounds lighter than a control group who followed the standard American way of eating. In fact, many of the study's 130 nutrition shake users were found to be up to 40 pounds lighter. It's very rare to see long-term weight-management results like this. And what's even better is it's by using a very natural and safe approach.
Numerous studies also show that high-protein nutrition shakes very reliably produce greater fat loss and muscle gains over a period of three to four months, and the results are even better when you add in weight-training exercise, like we do in our program.
The reason why nutrition shakes work so well is primarily because they offer a very practical tool for bringing our total daily calorie intake down, while lifting our nutrient intake up. A good nutrition shake will also satisfy your appetite. As anyone who's tried to eat lighter knows, if we're always hungry and we can't control cravings, it's hard to stick with it for very long; just the sheer discomfort of it will push you back to old eating patterns. These are the main reasons why I have nutrition shake meals at least a couple times a day. I prefer powdered nutrition shake mix which I combine with ice-cold water in a blender or shaker bottle right before I eat it. The shakes curb my cravings and satisfy my appetite for hours. And I know I'm getting all the quality protein, vitamins, minerals, and some extra healthy nutrients each day as well. It's the simplest and safest solution I've ever come across. To read what other members of the community say about nutrition shakes and to join the forum discussion just click here.
Some people make their nutrition shakes themselves with a combination of fruit, spices, herbs, and their preferred protein source. This thread in the forums offers some good examples and ideas.
they offer a very practical tool for bringing our total daily calorie
intake down, while lifting our nutrient intake up."
I’ve guided literally thousands and thousands of people over the years who have achieved great results with scientifically designed nutrition shakes. I’ve included these in my health and nutrition program for 18 years, going back to 1991 when I introduced the pioneer product in this health-food category called MET-Rx. In 1996, I introduced another good-quality nutrition shake called Myoplex, through the company that I owned at the time called EAS. Over the last 8 years, I've continued to work on new formulas, with state-of-the-art ingredients, primarily for my personal use.
One of the main modifications I've made over the previous formulas I developed is the elimination of any and all chemicals, including the artificial sweeteners aspartame and sucralose. Of course, being over 40 now, I’m increasingly conscious of removing artificial ingredients – anything that doesn't support optimum health. And while I still want to keep my muscles strong as I age, I'm not real interested in putting on a lot of muscle mass, so I don't overdo it on the protein. Instead, I'm focusing on keeping the calories down and I'm including nutrients that help lower my risk of age-related diseases and keep my energy going strong. I’m a big believer in phytonutrients (sunlight-containing nutrients) like those found in green tea extract (EGCG). So I've included the highest quality form that I could find anywhere, in just the right dose, in each serving of the new shake mix I designed. I call this formula "Right" because... um... well it helps me eat right. (Kinda wish I had a better story for the name, but that's all I could come up with for an explanation.)
Right shakes contain only the highest quality, 100% pure whey protein isolate which, unlike the lower quality protein powders, contains no cholesterol nor lactose. The amino acid blend is just the best I could ask for; it helps rebuild healthy muscles and it's really good for the immune system too. I also combined powdered oat flour into the complex carbohydrate blend. And finally, with the help of a long-time friend, who is one of the world's leading nutrition scientists, we were able to find a 100% natural way to sweeten and flavor the formula so it tastes great (a must for me, because I have at least two nutrition shakes every day).
which directly helps people here in our community."
Somewhat reluctantly, and after getting a lot of requests, I decided to set up a little "mom & pop" health-food shop online, in order to offer Right Nutrition shakes to others who were interested in a higher-quality product like this. I am pretty much following a Paul Newman entrepreneurial-philanthropic model - my salary is $1 and 100% of net profits this year go to fund Right Cares. The Right Cares Fund provides members of our Transformation community, who are suffering economic hardship and who are committed to improving their health and turning their lives around, with assistance in the form of individual support and guidance, free health foods and vitamins, oftentimes gym memberships, and free copies of books and videos. When possible, part-time, and in some cases, full-time work opportunities are made available as well. Each week Right Cares offers support to people you know, right here in our community. This effort is ongoing with the intention of offering aid to at least 1,000 Transformation.com members this year. I extend a heartfelt THANK YOU to those who’ve already helped in this mission by allowing Right Nutrition to serve a portion of your health-food needs.
I want to make it clear that you certainly don’t have to use any particular product to achieve some results with your health transformation. However, if you’re interested, you can learn more by visiting EatingRight.com. For the next four days, Right Nutrition products are on sale – buy one, get one free. That brings the price of a Right Nutrition shake down to just over a dollar per serving. Those of you who know the value of top-quality nutrition shakes can see that this is pretty much a best price opportunity. For those of you who are enjoying Right or Right Light shakes and getting good results with them, you might want to stock up a bit. You can receive 6 boxes, 12 servings each, for the price of 3 boxes. Placing an order is simple; just click here and it only takes about a minute. Remember, the buy one, get one free special is offered through Tuesday, April 21st only.
certain nutrients can help us live a longer and healthier life."
If you’re interested in learning more about specific nutrients and nutrient combinations which have been scientifically shown to increase endurance, muscle metabolism, and fat loss, just let me know. I've been researching this stuff for 20 years now. And over the past 8 years (post EAS), my investigations have veered toward natural ways to lower our risk of age-related disease while also up-regulating the body's ability to produce healthy energy so we can keep going strong for a long, long time! I hesitate to go into that stuff too much on the site, because the emotional and spiritual aspects of complete transformation have been so overlooked and neglected for so long in both the fields of western medicine and fitness that I want to make sure those are always emphasized in the educational material in this community. Again, if you're interested in this kind of subject matter just let me know in the comments section below.
In Tuesday’s blog, I’m going to post Part 2 of “Improved Nutrition for Improved Results.” I’ll be covering these additional topics:
- Which type of exercise is best for appetite management and curbing cravings for sugar and fat.
- Why weekly selfless service is such a powerful practice for overcoming binge eating.
- An explanation of why connecting with a supportive community was shown to increase weight-loss results by 245 percent in a recent study reported in the New England Journal of Medicine.
- How to incorporate sunlight, the essential nutrient for radiant energy, into your daily nutrition plan.
All that and more, you’ll find in my blog on Tuesday!
Sincerely,
Bill

Love the Right shakes. Have 1-2 per day. I do not have take additional vitamins as they are loaded with nutrition. I add some frozen berries and have a great snack. My daughter sees us making our right shakes and then has us make her a healthy smoothie. The environment is crucial to success. I am the type of person that can not have it in the house. It is too much temptation for me.
Bill I was just reviewing this assignment again today and you hit on 3 of the most important things in our toolbox. Plan your meals. I am busy right now and have lots going on so without that meal plan and knowing exactly what I need to eat and when I end up missing them and that comes back to be fought in the evening. Is your environment clean? This has sure been a struggle lately as we have allowed some of the not so good food back in the house for free days and not clearing it out. I dont know how a bag of chips can call my name and I can hear it in another room but it happens. For me the environment must be clean! Nutrition shakes. This is one of the best parts of the program and thats using 3 Right Shakes per day and they are so easy and so good and I actually look forward to the times I get to take them. Thanks for the information and its really the foundation of sustainability.
If you fail to plan you plan to fail....and planning really makes life so much easier! Thanks for the post!!
Great blog, Bill! It's absolutely terrific to see that you've done the work to eliminate artificial ingredients from your products. I have food sensitivities that create some pretty unpleasant emotional and physical side affects whenever I eat the wrong things - like MSG, food dyes, artificial preservatives, and artificial flavors. My kids are affected by these same sensitivities. It's a constant struggle to find foods that aren't loaded with artificial chemicals. Thanks for being out in front of the pack when it comes to cleaning up our foods!
Thanks Bill! I really appreciate your generous heart! You are a living example of how one person can positively affect so many others! Thank you also for researching and producing products with pure ingredients! I am looking forward to your next blog!
OUtstanding! As a faithful user of the Right products I can say they work. The shakes taste great and they fill me up. I am getting the vitamins and nutrients I need without taking any other supplements. I feel great and am 52lbs lighter......thanks Bill
Bill - I too would be very interested in getting more information about specific, true and proven nutrients and combinations. Also, I'd like some more information about nutrition as it relates to working out. I hear people talk about their before and after workout meals and some saying the never lift weights on an empty stomach but do cardio without eating first....... EFL is great and I love it! But the more information I have the more effective can I be in my efforts. And let's face it: If we're going to be putting in the effort - then let's make it count all the way! Thank You! - Nanna
I would definitely have interest in learning more about specific nutrients and nutrient combinations which have been scientifically shown to increase endurance, muscle metabolism, and fat loss. Thank you for all you do.
Bill, Thanks for the great shakes!!! I have been on EAS shakes for a while but love the taste of Right Light better! It doesn't have a funky after taste and is so smooth! Thanks for sharing them with us! I am thrilled to get my free box after ordering during this special!!!! I am also trying the Rightvites! Thanks for everything you do! I live by the right environment rule! Yesterday I shopped only the outer isles of the store. It felt great to only buy healthy stuff, no processed or packaged stuff at all. Last night I made a great dinner and nothing came from a can or box! It was all fresh and it was wonderful! Thanks Chris for the "sun" content test...I have thought of that every meal since then!!!! Love you guys, Brenda
Just a comment regarding planning: I agree that planning is key to achieving great results. However, for a lifelong commitment to healthy eating I personally feel that too much planning can become a nuisance and feel a bit constraining in the long run. The thought of having to sit down (for the rest of your life) every night to plan your meals for the next day will take away your ability to make impulsive (but still healthy) choices. It is dangerous to become obsessed, because obsessions can wear you out and ultimately turn you away from the healthy habits. For a lifelong commitment, I feel that a healthy and conducive environment is the key. I actually don't know what my next meal will be, but I have "the right stuff" in my fridge and my cabinets, so I know that I will make the right choices. When making the right choices becomes a part of your personality, you don't need to have everything planned in detail. This lifestyle should be easy to follow for a lifetime, so my focus is to make it a "no-brainer".
Planning my meals ahead of time is so important I can’t start my day without doing this the night before. It helps keep me on track throughout my day along with my pre planned workouts. I also log everything from my meals to my workouts this is the only way to stay focus and on track with this Transformation. Included in my meals is Protein shakes which are a vital part of this process, I have fond through my own Transformation that if I do not use Protein shakes as part of my meals, my workouts are not the same and my day to day routine is lacking. So PROTEIN SHAKES are 100% needed my friends. Thank you again Bill for another wonderful subject and post my friend! -John
Can't wait till tomorrow. Great info, thanks much!!
Planning is sooooo important! I totally agree! Having your lists and help organize your daily nutrition is essential if you are truly want this healthy change! I even have to make grocery lists ahead of time...otherwise the trip can be quite dangerous! That is when the environment shifts in the wrong direction!! So I make sure to shop with my kids before we get too hungry! This has always been helpful!
Thank you for all of the information, and the discount :). I have been enjoying the Right shakes, they have really been helping me throughout my transformation. Thanks! Sara
Hi Bill ! The Norwegian guy here. Very good to hear and read so much good information about nutrition. As we all know, nutrition is the key to good health and an improved physique. Working out without being conscious about nutrition takes us nowhere. Through experience, I think that nutrition is about 75% of the physical transformation, I have made great progress since I started in early January, and I intend to put a maximum effort into this until June 25th (I have a strong motivational push for that exact date, long story...) I will have to buy new jeans that day, as well, since the old ones don't fit anymore. But back to my point: The EFL principles for eating, combined with 2 nutrition shakes is an unbeatable recipe for success. And it is a success without pain and discomfort. That is a major thing that I think many people outside our community have trouble understanding. You can actually lose weight and transform your body without feeling deprived. When unconsciuos habits are changed, the new conscious habits take control and change your body. Then you can change your mind, as the physical transformation spills over into your mental condition. It's so great to be a part of this, Bill ! Thanks!
Bill I think this is some great information to help guarantee our sucess; I am currently starting week seven and I have loss 29 pounds the one think that has helped me greatly is that I have my meals ready to go and packed; no matter where I go I take my food with me.
Bill, thanks for the discount. My order has been placed. Bob from sunny AZ.
Great information and great timming...getting back to the nutritional and exercise basics after the mental work is outstanding!
Hey Bill! Just ordered my 10 boxes of Right shakes, 2 Right Vites & 2 Awaken coffee and only paid for 1/2! LOVE YOU and THANK YOU SO MUCH! I'm now not only ready to finish Challenge #1 - but I'm all stocked up for Challenge #2! I love you Bill!!!! Julie
Bill-Good reading. My wife and I took our softball team (high school) to a tournament this weekend and I realized that I have educated them on the game of softball but I need to educate them how to take of their body. At our team dinner every girl but one ordered a cola or some type of soda. I understand the addiction because I was addicted to diet cola for years but have been pop/soda free for over one year and I feel great. The common response from them is that they started when they were in early elementary schools and are addicted Our kids are not allowed to drink it and they are ok with that. I am glad most schools do not promote the sale of pop/soda in the school now. The other thing is that when we returned to Bad Axe last night after two nights in the hotel we looked into the fridge and found that the healthy food in it looked very appealing. We ate well at the resturants we went to but the food we now have in the fridge is just better than what you can have on the road. We make a point to what we call de-funk the refrigerator every pay day and it is good for the planning of our meals. I definitely agree with the nutrition shake consumption. If you are reading this and are not a big shake drinker try to drink at least one per day and two if you can. I struggled for a couple weeks last month and I looked at my diet history and noticed I had a few days when my nutrition shake was missing. I plateaued and I think that could have been a contributing factor. Thanks for the good read-My wife just booked our flight to the Mile High City-any suggestions on altitude training. Maybe that is something you could touch base on in your blog to help us from the midwest and low lands prepare for the event. I recall when I played at New Mexico Highlands University 9RMAC Champs 1981-GO COWBOYS) and the teams from Texas would come in to play us-if the score was close at halftime we would usually win the game because of the altitude. Any suggestion would be greatly appreaciated. THE TIME IS NOW!!
Hi Bill, Great offer and made me want to finally try the protein shakes, but I can't get the offer to come up when I order. I'm in the UK and therefore an Amazon.com account becomes a .co.uk account, which is what I think the problem is. Any suggestions on how to take advantage of this offer while being in the UK? Or should I just order and send you my order ref to action? Help?!
Thanks Bill I look forward to reading your info.. Always...Angela..Keep Smilin...
Thanks for the information. I just purchased my first of the Right Light shakes, Right Protein, and Vita Bites. I have used your former product EAS Myoplex and I am looking forward to seeing how the two compare. Great information and thanks again. Waiting for Tuesday to see what else is there. I plan what I am going to eat, but have not gotten into the habit of writing and comparing plan to actual. I will begin with the planning process this week. Thanks again
Wonderful information, and I'm always looking for more, so bring it on! I am SOOO happy that you have created a natural protein without all the chemical (or sugar) sweeteners. And thank you for the sale, I went right over the site and ordered. Planning is key, and Joe was RIGHT on---it is great to not only know what your next meal is, but to have it ready to go! Because I ate well today, I'll be changing the world tomorrow!
Bil, Um-wow! This post is amazing...you know that "fear" blog?? My fear was writing to Right Cares and asking for temporary help while my hubby has been unemployed. I have enjoyed Right products for a while now. I starting using them only because of the natural ingredients. I have been on a mission these past many months, getting the garbage out of my cupboards.....things like HCFS, transfats, processed foods, convenient foods that aren't good for my children. I have completely redone the way I cook and shop. I only buy whole foods...I cook my own treats for the family so I know exactly what they are eating..things like that. It's difficult for me to ask for help and I DID IT!!!! I sent that letter off after the fear assignment!!! And now THIS!!! I am loving it! So you have THREE YES'S from me! YES, I am planning my meals in advance (if I don't, I FAIL everytime!) YES! My have cleaned and continue to clean my environment. (junk out of cupboards) And finally YES!!!! YES to nutritional shakes!!!!! They certainly keep me full and I feel much better during the day with my shakes!!!! SIncerely and with gratitude, ~Sandy~
This topic is great because in the last 3 weeks I have not been planning and doing what I did before and because of that my goal is not getting closer. I have only maintianed my weight. So for everyone it is important to track what you are eating, to plan it. # 1 thing Plan Plan Plan or you do set yourself up for failure. Great Topic to discuss Bill. Very Important. Gretchen
Bill, this comes at a great time as I have been micronutrients in food as well and have been reading up on research. I would be very interested in what you have to say and which literature you can recommend (right now I am reading "Super Foods RX" and "YOU- the owners manual"). thanks, Juliane
Bill, I wrote several comments about your nutrition blog and Right Light shakes, etc., but it became very long, so I hope you'll take the time to read it on my Blog -- I didn't want to take up that much room here! I'd really appreciate your input on my situation I'm experiencing. Thank You! http://www.transformation.com/made2scrap/blog/General/My-Response-to-Bill-s-Nutritional-Blog/33855
Thanks Bill!! I just ordered 6 boxes and only paid for three! Wow! I love love love them. I drink at least 2 a day. If you aren't using these shakes you are missing out. The nutrient dense ingredients and low calories feed your body exactly what it needs to build a rock solid base of new muscle tissue. I didn't mean for this to be a commercial for Right...It just came out that way...Get ya some!
Dear Bill - thanks for writing this - I was too intimidated by the radio show to listen (maybe overwhelmed too, but one more thing to do), but the info in this blog is something I can handle. I'll do a sweep of my kitchen this afternoon and plan to try your shakes. Many thanks, Meredith
Awesome stuff!!! Tons of thanks, Bill!! Love MaryPat
I love this! I have been wanting to take my nutrition to the next level and THursday's radio show couldn't have come at a better time! I am getting all kinds of great advice from you, from Chris Winters and from everyone who has been sharing in the past few days! Thank you! ~~Jen :)
Bill, Just letting you know, I've been following you and your work for the last 10 years. I've gone from obese to 10% body fat! Although my outside has drastically changed, My inside has as well. I know what you mean when you say: "I hesitate to go into that stuff too much on the site, because the emotional and spiritual aspects of complete transformation have been so overlooked and neglected for so long" I understand. However, I do encourage you to share the technical information you've gathered! After learning as much as I could from your work, I find myself looking for more info. If the correct data is unavailable, the eager will search elsewhere. As I've learned first hand, the search can lead to errant data. I've spent years trying to 'fine tune' my approach toward nutrition, only to take several steps back. Please consider sharing what you've learned, so we don't have to spend 20 years to find what you already know. Thanks for all you do. I really appreciate it. -pborkstrom
Thanks for the sale, Bill! I just stocked up! I like your whey protein product the best. I had a chance to work with Dr. Oz when I was in private prctice (natural therapies director of a cancer center in St. Louis). Our MD/ Nutritionist always had our cancer patients on some version of whey protein supplement as a method of tissue-sparing during their treatment and recovery. Here's a sad story about "right environment." We took care of 2 of our adorable grandkids recently. During the 6 days at our house they ate huge amounts of healthy food, drank water and ran around outside in the fields and woods. I was shocked at their appetites! Even Sophie, the picky eater and negotiator ("how many bites of this do I have to eat before you give me candy?") was eating whole grains, proteins and veggies. Well yeah! They had a lot of exercise, were hungry and there was very little junk (did give them Trader Joe's chocolate once). When we took them home, as soon as Ben (2) saw his open pantry, he sat down on the floor and started crying for "chee-tos." What a trigger! Clarissa's Sophie is on the right track for a life time of whole health thanks to her Mom's example and environment. Please get me on a list to find out more about high level nutrition for disease prevention. I heard you mention somewhere about endorphins being mostly produced in the body and not the brain. I need to find out more about this. Currently I work as a volunteer with psychotherapists as a somatic (mind/body) therapist treating war refugees with PTSD. The counselors like methods that elicit endorphin response (that's one reason I'm there), but it sounds like there is some missed potential in this area. Constant thanks for all you are and all you do...Chris
fantastic topics Bill, yes please keep them coming! You're the best! Oh and TY so much for the buy one get one offer. I am going to stock up "Right" now!
Thanks for this informational blog! 2 weeks before this challenge, I began to prepare meals from the EFL book to find my favorites and get off on the right track. Planning is the key to success , which isn't always easy. The right shakes are fantastic, and so quick and easy for a busy working mom who spends a lot of time in the car. Skipping meals and unhealthy snacks eaten on the run are part of what brought me down. Now I grab a shake or 2, pack a little bag for my day and it is healthy eating on the go! Thank You Bill, heidi
This is so fabulous Bill. In fact I wish I could do more shakes, but the budget only allows for so much for now!! I would definitely be interested in learning more nutrient info so that I can eat as healthy as possible otherwise. I truly believe you, that eating, thinking, emotion and energy, etc. are all interconnected. They need each other. My thoughts are that although it may seem not as significant as the inner transformation, I believe, like you say, that it will help and contribute to the inner transformation. And for me, when I understand something as completely as possible, I am more likely to do it!! I know faith is important and we do not need to know everything to make the right choices. For some, though, it may strengthen their resolve because they KNOW and understand. I don't think you could go wrong with sharing more on this subject, I think people, I know I do, want to know more!! Love you and all you and your team does here for all of us. Thank you for your years of education and study in this field, and for bringing it to us undiluted!!! Lisa =)
Planning has always been my cup of tea even before I started here, I always have to be prepared no matter what and now it's more natural for me. I am interested in more of what you know concerning natural ways to lower our risk of age-related disease while also up-regulating the body's ability to produce healthy energy so we can keep going strong for a long, long time. Please Bill do tell me more about this. Until then thank you for all that you've done. God bless~Jerome
Bill--Thanks for all of the information! I love the idea of a nutrition shake with no additives and artificial sweetener--I really hope that the Right Shakes come to Canada soon. I admire your knowledge, your generosity and the huge difference you are making in so many people's lives. ~Love, Dianne
Thanks Bill for your time and effort in all this. Hey, I have a problem with blended shakes. I find using the blender with powdered mixes puts too much air into my shake. When I drink it, it really hurts my stomach. Some other t.com women at our Denver meet-up were having the same problem. I'm still using EAS ready to drink shakes because there is no air, but would prefer to support Right Nutrition. Do you have any plans for a ready to drink Right Shake?
Thank you for sharing this, it is interesting that you worked with Dr. Oz, I watch his nutrition suggestions, but don't like the cleansing. I can't wait for your Tuesday blog. I find the nutrition bars so easy that I grab those and should be drinking more of the nutrition drinks. Thank you, thank you.
First, thank you SO MUCH for the 2 for 1 special! It really makes a difference & I am so excited to be able to order some today. This is a great blog post & yes, I am always interested in learning more about nutrition, even though I like to keep it simple. The nutrition for endurance would really be beneficial to someone like my husband who is silly enough to ride his bike anywhere from 4-6 hrs(with an 8 hr race coming up!) at a time! I am looking forward to the next blog post especially this part: How to incorporate sunlight, the essential nutrient for radiant energy, into your daily nutrition plan. Sounds very interesting!
I am very interested in learning more about your knowledge in nutrition with all the research you have done. It fascinates me. It seems that so many of the illnesses that people have are diet related...could be prevented or reversed by eating optimally. I often think about going back to school to learn more in this area...particularly alternative natural approaches to correct illness. After completing an 18 week challenge here I had a bone density scan...my first...and it showed that I had osteopenia...probably coinciding with my 20 lb weight loss and menopausal...immediately they want to prescribe Actonel, but I have decided to correct this through diet and supplements after researching other options. Too many doctors want to put people on medicines when there are alternatives. On the list of foods for bone strengthening was whey protein! So there is another benefit of drinking shakes daily. I wish I had known that years ago. I would have incorporated those into my diet sooner. I am looking forward to trying Rightlight...especially with the good deal you have on them right now. Thank you for sharing all that is put into that product..it sounds fabulous. Here's to living longer, healthier and stronger!!! Susan
Awesome Blog Bill!!!! ....I have always been a big planner, and being a Mom, planning ahead helps me in more ways than one. Like clockwork, I always spend a good portion of my free day enjoying that day to just do that----BE free, but I also enjoy that day to plan ahead and prepare for a healthy week ahead. Sophie and I grab the EFL book, pick out recipes, and hit the store. Because I am a single Mom, the more time I take to plan ahead and prepare, the less time I mindlessly stare in the fridge/pantry and the more valuable time I have to spend with her. With pre planning, daily decisions become simple and the only question I ask is, “Which meal will it be?” ……..and because of this preparation, the environment I keep CLEAN is exactly that, what goes in mine and Sophie’s body. For me, I prepare 18 meals for the 6 days ahead (two of my daily meals are RIGHT’s) and depending on her school week /math tutoring/Dad time, or karate, 6-8 for her. And, btw, we do fresh fruit & veggie trip’s throughout the week, because ….well, we like ‘em fresh! =) I am a big believer in pre-planning, balanced nutrition, and keeping it simple!... 6 days a week, I always look back and thank goodness for that time spent on Sunday! For any of you that might read this and may need some bulk cooking ideas in preparing for the week ahead, please click on me up there on the left and swing on by!! I am always happy to help ..... =)
Great information; Thank you! I have been using the Right shakes for the last few days and it really seems to be the perfect bridge between my main meals. It satisfies the sweet taste I love and I really enjoy added fresh or frozen fruit. I, too, was initially attracted to the shakes due to the pure and quality ingredients. I listened to the podcast of Thursday's show and plan to use nutrition bars only occasionally now since I have a history of binging on sweets; I will be getting a shaker at the grocery store so I can enjoy the Right shakes on the run. Thanks Bill!
Thanks Bill, it just keeps getting better!~Sheridan
I average two sometimes three meal shakes a day and I feel the difference in my body when I do not do them because I sometimes let them run out. I ordered Right Light shakes and used them in the beginning and I hate admitting this but I didn't like the taste. I don't know if the shake I use is as good nutritionally as Right Light but because I am in this for the long haul I needed to find something I liked. My experience was it was too "sweet" for me and I know you don't have artificial sweetners so I don't know what gives it that sweetness but for me I needed something less sweet. I am so touched by your willingness to offer your product for buy one get one free and I know it will support so many who are committed to making positive change in their life. I am even more moved at how you chose to use the proceeds from this line of products. You inspire me in your leadership of generosity of spirit and I know you are being blessed 10 times over in the Spiritual realms. I look forward to hearing more about the nutritional aspects of body and health. Just a point of interest, I submitted a final paper for my Energy Medicine Program and it was actually on Light Therapies and the Healing properties of sun light. I am so blessed to have a garden design business which allows me to be outside everyday pretty much all day and I am now more aware of how intricately connected it is to my mental and spritiual health. This transformation process has put me in a much stronger physical body which is also much leaner and I can not tell you what a gift that will be for me in doing my landscape work. I am a little nervous about how I will keep up with my "formal" workouts as I know doing the landscape work is very demanding on my body but I need to trust I will find a way. I have a goal in my heart to run/walk the marathon in Denver in October so I need to keep going strong until then to even have a chance at making that dream come true. Thanks for all you do.
Your program is such a great idea and very inspirational!
As a 40+ guy, a cancer survivor and someone who battles eating healthy - keep the eductation coming. There is so much I want to do and so much life to live. Thanks, mike
Thanks Bill, Its always good to have a nutrition refresher no matter how long you have been doing it.
Thank you Bill! I am totally interested in the information on age related disease and the body's ability to produce healthy energy! I can't wait to learn more! I have to be better about preparing my foods in advance or my plans get pushed aside for what is faster to eat. I ordered some right products last week. Sounds like I'd be a fool not to order some more! Much love, Alison
My success so far has definitely been in the planning and keeping the right foods in the pantry as well. Thanks for the 2-for-1! I'm going to stock up now!
PLANNING has been a very useful tool that I've used to make my transformation run smoothly. Starting in Jan, I planned my next day’s meals and mindset in my BFL success journal. This helped me stay on track and kept my mind from wandering into junk food land. I make sure to have my meals, gym bag, and work clothes all ready the night before, so I can wake up and go in the mornings. I also plan by including a visualization technique in my morning meditations where I picture myself going through my day, accomplishing tasks and interacting with people full of joy and ease. This always gives me peace and serenity throughout the day.
I also keep my house entirely free of ALL JUNK!! There is no point in putting myself in the agony of having to white-knuckle it and control cravings when I know there is a bag of chips or something sitting in my kitchen. As far as the childhood obesity goes...I substitute teach, and the meals they serve the elementary kids are horrible!! I taught first grade on Thursday, and the lunch was hot dogs and cheese sticks!!! Then they have cookies and cakes on top of that!!! Their lunches are like that everyday.
Childhood obesity is something I am interested in intervening with in my career. The fact that there are children with high blood pressure and type 2 diabetes is not acceptable. They are our future. I believe that there is a rising consciousness in people who can make a difference in this problem and reverse the rising rate of childhood obesity and its resultant diseases. Right now, I just do my best by setting a good example for the students, by being positive and sharing how I eat well and exercise often.
Nutrition shakes save my day, especially while teaching. I cannot really whip out a whole meal while in the classroom, but I can pour some right light, water and ice into a shaker bottle and drink that. Shakes give me a burst of energy, sometimes it feels lie I've just taken a mega dose of caffeine or some other stimulant. They give me so much clarity and lightness. I can tell my body loves the nutrition it gets when I drink shakes. They are a staple of my diet.
Right cares is an awesome program. I think that's great that you provide people with gym memberships and jobs. I actually have been depending on my parents for groceries and some financial help, because substitute teaching and teaching group fitness once a week does not cover my bills at all. I just graduated from OSU, and I am getting my ACSM Health Fitness Specialist Certification, so I was thinking about going to my friend’s personal training studio to see if he had any open positions. If there are and Right cares jobs in Oklahoma, then please let me know Bill!!
I look forward to seeing what you have to say about selfless service preventing binge eating. Service in OA and on t.com helps me stay away from the food. I enjoy leading OA meetings (we switch leaders every month) and guiding newcomers. When I am leading a meeting and helping others, I am thinking about helping them. My mind is thinking about service rather than food. I am focused more on a something bigger and greater than myself, and that keeps me from giving into my lower self's need for instant gratification through substance like food and alcohol.
Thanks for the blog Bill!
Love you, Steph
Thank you, Bill. I've done very well with planning my menu a week at a time, only shopping for those items on the menu. I don't do quite as well with incorporating natural foods and sunlight nutrients. It just isn't something that I was ever taught until very recently. Financial concerns also restrict my shake consumption to 1 a day most of the time, but I do try to keep them as a staple in my menu. Thanks again for all that you do.
Bill - INCREDIBLE POST! First of all - THANK YOU for the 2 for 1 special on Right nutrition! I have been praying for a way that I could afford this and you have answered my prayers! I'm changing the way I eat one meal at a time...including healthier choices. I'm looking into things such as flax oil and green tea. I would love to hear about the combos you mentioned for increase endurance, muscle metabolism, and fat loss. Much love to you.............Julie
Bill, this is a great post, and I thank you for it. Looking forward to part 2 as well. Great information with the shakes and the planning. "Right" shakes are delicious and the "right" protein added in them is a great way to get the amount of protein needed for the day. Great products, and I will be taking advantage of the BOGO sale--Thanks for that!!!!! Planning the meals as you and Joe talked about is the key to success for sure. Thanks, Brian
Thank you very much for all of this Bill. "You said my investigations have veered toward natural ways to lower our risk of age-related disease while also up-regulating the body's ability to produce healthy energy " I am interested in learning more about specific nutrients and nutrient combinations which have been scientifically shown to increase endurance, muscle metabolism, and fat loss. You are to me, heaven sent! Sincerely Mark
Thaks Bill. I have to say I totally agree with the planning of the meals the night before. It just sets you up so well for the next day. If I don't plan you can be sure something will come unstuck. WIll the Right shakes be available here in Australia at some stage? It is so hard to find anything without artificial additives, I would love to try them.
Thanks Bill, I have just started with eating organic and whole foods. The next interest i have is things like some of the anti aging and hormonal things that Suzanne Sommers, Dr. Hotze from Houston and Dr. Life are discussing. They are all using different methods about slowing the aging process and getting more out of life and possibly preventing diseases with their methods. it would be interesting to hear more about that, Troy
Great Post Bill, I am so happy you are creating nutritious shakes for people without the chemicals and additives, such an important part of being healthy, I am an avid label reader and have been studying about nutrition for years, I wish there was a way for me to try the Right Shakes in Canada. Do you know if this will ever be possible in the future? I do get some good quality protein powder from a health store, the only place I will shop, I am so glad you are helping people become more aware of staying away from the chemicals put into foods....raw, natural, organic, least amount of additives as is possible is what I aim for, the best I can anyways.....I, for one, would love information on nutrients that are promising, I have always loved learning about this stuff, I do drink green tea, use flax oil, take greens+ and if you have information about nutrients that are good, that would be great....let me know how I can get it.....I am always one for learning something new. Thanks Bill.....Love Thia
Thanks... During this challenge, I have planned meals the night before, have no junk food in the house, (I shop on free day and may buy a candy bar to eat on that day) and consume 2 shakes a day, one in the am and one in the pm. I'm really impressed with your model of giving profits to benefit others. Also, thanks for providing this community at no cost and the results you listed in above study have proven true for me. The support here is AMAZING. A heartfelt thank you. This process has changed my life for the better.
