Indepencence Day - Reflection

Hi Everyone,

I decided I was going to get in my 3 mile powerwalk today before the temps reached over 100. I started off at 10:30 this morning and already the temperature had climbed to 92. I was about 1/3 of the way through my walk when I realized I forgot to bring my Ipod. :(  I could have gone back to get it, but I started focusing on the sounds that truly meant that summer was really here.. not just the temperature, but the noise of the catadids and crickets in the trees. You only hear them on a hot summer day / night. I enjoy my walk to the park, and along the way I tried to find the sides of the streets that offered the most shade.

Eventually I made it to the park, and there were already people gathering, barbequeing and enjoy a nice hot Texas summer day. My thoughts went to our troups that are serving overseas in the Middle East. How were they spending their Independence Day? One thing I knew.. they were not mingling with family and enjoy the usual festivies for the 4th such as water melon, grilled hotdogs or burgers, and a fireworks display. I thought about the people that do not have the freedom that we do. What they wouldn't give to be able to walk through a neighborhood and not fear for their lives. I realized that I am truly thankful for our country and for the men and women that serve to protect us so that we have the freedom that we do have.

Here's to the armed forces that risk their lives every day so that we may continue to enjoy our freedom and indepence. Don't ever forget the sacrifices made and are still being made.

To the troups!

Hugs

Edie

Beautiful. Sorry about that hot Texas sun - I know it can be brutal. I used to live near Fort Worth. I hope you had a great 4th. -
