Start of my Journey
Hello fellow transformers,
Wow, I can't believe it! What an awesome website but then again anything Bill does is awesome. I thought I would write this blog as a basic introduction into something I am very passionate about and that is health and fitness.
Where did it all start for me. Well I have always been into sport and played a lot as a teenager but as I moved into my early twenties I began to live a pretty hard life of food. Anything that was not so good for me went beyond my lips. I preferred to watch sport from the comfort of my lounge chair for hours on end, rather than be physically active. My twenties were based on junk food and a life of inactivity. By the time I was twenty nine I was smoking thirty cigs a day, eating nothing but rubbish food and just being a slob with no direction.
First Transformation Begins
At the age of 27 it was time to do something about my dead end life. I had no confidence in myself and added to this was the fact that I failed high school badly due to just wanting to play sport rather than study. But I decided it was time to make a change. I enrolled at university and began my Bachelor of Social Work and by the Grace of God I got through the first semester. I ended completing my studies with honours, I was ecstatic.
During my time at university I was reaquainted with a bloke who I grew up with but lost contact with but he was my best mate growing up. After not seeing him for a number of years, I could not believe how much muscle size he had put on, I was blown away. When I turned 29 in the year 2000 I took a long hard look at myself and I thought to myself "you are doing well with your studies but you still look and feel disgusting both on the inside and out". I was at an engagement party with my mate when I took him aside and said "mate I need help. Want to train me"? He did not hesitate and said 'for sure mate'. So he became my training partner and personal trainer at the same time. He gave me a video tape and said before you start watch this. It was of course Body of Work. I watched this video and became so inspired by the likes of Porter Freeman and Lyn Lingenfelter. I could not wait to get started. I cried in certain parts of the film but it just motivated me incredibly.
So I began my own Body For Life program. I was so committed, I followed the program to the letter, having my trainer to drive me helped so much as well. I am not sure whether his motivational technique was all that great though. I remember wanting to put the bar down and he would say "if you stop now I will personally wrap that bar across your forehead'. I hated cardio because I was so out of condition so I made sure I did the cardio with my trainer so I did not let him down.
It was amazing, the fat started to melt away and the muscle started to come. People I knew started saying you have lost weight, you seem so much more confident. And I felt it. But of course there were those he were negative about it as well. They would say you have lost too much weight, people who told me I was too fat now started to tell my I was getting to skinny. I made the decision then that sometimes no matter what you do some people will always find fault. So I made a list of those people who I would no longer associate with because I felt so good I did not want negativity in my life. I learnt how to eat right as well and how eating healthy can be really tasty as well.
After 16 weeks I saw my six pack for the first time, I had lost roughly 25kgs or 55lbs , I looked and felt great but for the first time I had confidence in myself. I began to set new goals not just for training but in other areas of my life as well. I still have my struggles in life as does everybody but I now have the confidence to get through them. This has been a valuable lesson that I have learnt through Body For Life. Rocky Balboa sums it up well "it doesn't matter how hard you hit, it is how well you come back from being hit that matters'.
Today I continue to share Bill's vision here in Australia with all those I meet. I hope that if you were able to read this entire blog then you will right now as though you want to get out there and train. I hope in the future to encourage everybody on this board.
God's Blessings to everybody out there
Rohan
