I've been on lithium carbonate since 1991. It has worked well however the summertime can bring on a tendancy towards hypomania so the lithium is upped a tad. Moods are stabile as a result of frequent doctor visits and ongoing therapy. What is a problem is the dark winters which brings on SAD - seasonal affective depression. This year we may add on a seratonin uptake drug for wintertime. Okay, exercise is unaffected but weight loss is. There is a definite slowing down of the metabolism as a result of long term lithium usage. The molecular structure he says is altered but the Psyd says that it can be battled with consistent dieting and exercise but the path is a slow one. It's okay so long as I stay eating healthy.
