BREAKFAST: Multi-grain bagel; Nut N Honey cream cheese; sliced tomato; orange juice MIDMEAL: walnuts; almonds; pecans; 64 oz water LUNCH: Multi-grain bagel; Nut N Honey cream cheese; sliced tomato; 20 oz G2 MIDMEAL: Tablespoon of Nutella; 32 oz water DINNER: Salami and cheese with pepperoncini; 20 oz G2 LIGHT DESSERT: Popcorn and Cherry Icy (at the movies for Date Night with my husband) COMMENTS/INSIGHTS: Pretty hot outside while working in the yard, so drank a lot of water and G2

Made today my "Free Day" because a dear friend was celebrating his 50th anniversary of ordination as a priest, so we just had to celebrate! |

Trying to keep eating really methodical this week with extra carbs. “Old school” running advised eating high protein for the first few days of the week of the marathon and then “carb loading” 2-3 days before the race; however, I’ve learned that research shows that the “new school” way works just fine, namely: continue to eat a balance a carbs and protein in 5-6 small meals for the beginning of the week; then increase carbs so that total diet is 60 – 70% carbs (vs. protein) the last 2-3 days before the race. I’m keeping my diet basically the same but adding Cliff Bars and having pasta for dinner on consecutive nights. |

The bacon cheeseburger and fries may seem like a strange choice before the marathon, but I have it on good advice that this is the ticket! And YUM!

MARATHON! FREE DAY! BREAKFAST: Banana; 3 Cliff Shot Bloks; 16 oz water LUNCH: Bacon cheeseburger; fries; 32 oz water DINNER: 3 slices of pizza! (cheese; garlic; spinach; sausage; bacon); 2 margaritas! 32 oz water DESSERT: Pint of Chunky Monkey Ice Cream! COMMENTS/INSIGHTS: During the marathon, I consumed: 90 oz of G2; 15 Cliff Shot Bloks; 5 Hammer Gels. After the marathon, I consumed: 1 banana; 1 bag of Baked Lays; bagel with cream cheese; 20 oz G2. Next time, I would make sure that not all Cliff Shot Bloks and Hammer Gels were caffeinated. Could not nap after the marathon because too much caffeine!
