Florida keys Meet Up "SIGN IN"

MEET, GREET & WET OUR FEET!!!

FLORIDA KEYS STYLE
(a politically correct way of saying “bare bones”)

Come join Marty Goldman and fellow T-comm folks for 3 days and 2 nights of relaxing conversation, swimming, grilling and chilling. This is “Old Keys” style relaxation. This is a great place to just “hang out” and get to know each other. Wonderful for the whole family and especially the kids and even dogs are welcome there, it is the Keys!

Dates
Marty and folks will be coming in Friday May 29th and leaving on Sunday May 31st. While the norm is “noon to noon” like most hotels the Island management will be flexible to reasonable early arrivals (meaning 9am on.)

Cost

Pigeon Key has given us a good rate of $55 per night (for a min. stay of two nights) per person ($110 ttl.)

This includes: Off Island parking, a shuttle boat that runs at 10am, 11:30am, 1pm, and 2:30pm (allows you to get off the island to buy food, check out the area or tour.) 15 minutes after those times a historical tour takes place on the Key so your free to join up with that at any time. Use of three bunk houses with baths and clean sheets and pillows and cases (the original 1908 structures in excellent shape and repair.) A common house/dinning hall for eating and indoor relaxation. The use of their 1 kitchen. And of course you’re surrounded by excellent waters of both the Gulf and Atlantic for fishing and snorkeling etc.

This does not include:Think of this as a Day-& Night-at-the-Beach with a roof over your head. Therefore you’ll need to provide your own food (bring it with you in a cooler. We can use their personal homes kitchen for food prep.) Your personal toiletries (please be eco-safe as it is an island.) Your own fishing gear, snorkeling masks,& fins, kayaks, bicycles, games, books, beach towels, sunblock, Kids life vests (if you got kiddies coming) extra cloths as we don’t have laundry facilities (other than some rocks and your hands!) and anything else you may like to “chill with.” As the bridge that connects (pedestrian or bike use only, no motor vehicles) Pigeon Key to the mainland is 2.2 miles long over beautiful green waters (full of sea life to view)

What we (us locals) will try and provide: We’ll get a couple of grills (everyone can chip in a couple of bucks for propane use if they would) for outdoor grilling. We’ll borrow as many kayaks as we can, maybe a few bikes, and a couple of life vests. There will be a volleyball net set up to get our bods some exercise

Place

Pigeon Key, Marathon Florida (Middle Keys)-See Website for further information: Pigeon Key Foundation | Home

Pigeon Key Layout
3 Dorms: One with 36 bunks and 3 baths. a second with 14 bunks with two baths and a single room for Marty-Guest Speaker, and the third dorm is a 10 bed unit with no baths. As we move along and see who is coming and our numbers we will work out sleeping arraignments for everyone.

Transportation
You can either fly or drive

* Key West (easiest) then rent a car (we are a 1 hr drive north) or take the “Keys Shuttle” to Pigeon Key

*Miami or Fort Lauderdale then rent a car (a 2.5 to 3 hour drive south) or take the “Keys Shuttle” to Pigeon Key

*Marathon Airport (Continental out of Ft. Meyers to Marathon) then rent a car or call us to pick you up

*Drive down- this takes about 2.5. to 3 hours coming from Miami area or 1 hour from Key West

Setting up a Star Scope

We got a telescope donated for the Pigeon Key foundation and this is a pic of a pad we poured this afternoon to mount it so it can be aligned perfectly. If we get this alignment and the system set up correctly the scope is supposed to be able with its internal memory find something like 10,000 objects with the push of a button. The next step is to hook it up to our laptop and that is hooked up to this cool projector and we will then hang a big sheet on the bridge wall and put on Celestial event shows.

We're trying to get this set up so when our Tcommers and families come we can have some fun "star-gazing" as there is a billion of them out over that Island.

Another pic on the Key

A pic of the salt water tidal pool just before sunset this evening. This is a great little marine environment to teach kids to snorkel in.

Don't worry Marty we'll send you home looking like a prune! We will be happy to put on snorkel classes for anyone who's never done it and then take small tours around the island showing you Grouper, Snapper, Hog Fish, Lobster etc. habitats. We'll most likely see sharks also. Another thing that we see allot of down here are Sea Turtles, Skates and Rays. There are two islands about 25min. north of us to kayak too where you can see Red star fish.
