any ACL injuries?
Hey Ya'll
I curious to see and hear anyones stories about any Knee injuries they have have sustained and gotten past. I recently (4 weeks ago) had knee surgery to replace my completely torn ACL, 2 meniscectomies, and some removal of some bone and Ligament. My recovery has been very good and has really made me appreciate my health in all aspects. In 4 weeks i have gone from sitting in bed for a week to now being able to jog and ride a bike for miles. I can squat with the bar to 90 degrees and even do some light leg exercises. I have a long road ahead to get back anywhere close to where i was before but I am moving in the right direction. Look forward to hearing from anyone else. Best, Neil |

Hey Neil
Sounds like you are doing awesome after your surgery, way to go bud! I work for a physical therapy clinic at an army medical center, so i deal with this type of injury on a daily basis. I wish you the best of luck w/ your recovery and training program. Give 110%, 100% of the time, and you will reap the benefits my friend. God Bless You and let me know if i can be of any help. IN HIM, Brad Prichard |

I tore my right one in highschool playing football (about 15 years ago), and my left one about 2 months ago. I opted to not have surgery both times as I sit at a desk all day and the only activity I do is hiking or cycling. The one I tore in highschool use to pop out about every 3-4 months until about 10 years ago when I stopped playing sports ( I know i'll pay for this later in life :P). So far my newly torn left leg (fell down the stairs of our garden) is coming along ok, I was bed ridden for a couple weeks, and had difficulty walkig over curbs and such for a good 6 weeks. Now its almost back to normal with the exception of the muscles right around my knee still doesnt quite function right as I have problems doing things like leg raises.

Hi guys
I am 3 years into recovery from a dislocated knee, torn acl, mcl, pcl and meniscus (got in a fight with a trampoline and the tramp won I've had 3 surgeries to put Humpty back together again. I've gone from not walking, to wheelchair, to walker, to crutches, have 2 knee braces (1 custom for lifetime), a pimp walk and now I'm walking "normal" and thanking the Lord every day for my recovery plan he had for me. I do not and probably will not ever have full rom and can't run/jog so it's hard to figure out how to do cardio effectively enough to lose the layers of fat. It seems everyone has had major accomplishments due to running Jumping jacks are even out of the question. I can do stairs which helps rebuild the quads and a bike but man oh man it's hard! (the bike) funny thing is if I am on a stationary bike in the gym it's easy but in the real world on my 10 speed it is HARD to even go 2 blocks!! What???? Anyways, any suggestions to hi cardio would be greatly appreciated since I am beginning on my journey and am ready to shed the excuses, fear and pounds. Thanks! |

I had surgery 3 months ago, ACL replacement and meniscous repair. My recovery has been slow. I still have pain and swelling. I want to start a challenge so bad, but I am just now doing lunges (without weight)...I swell so bad and hurt after...I'm getting somewhat discouraged.

I did my first BFL challenge with a torn ACL, had the surgery to repair it once the initial challenge was complete and then did my second challenge as soon as I had the green light from my surgeon and physical therapists. I was still working with the therapists as i began the second challenge. Dont be discouraged. This will pass. It's temporary. Trust me, I am the most impatient person in the world and nearly went nuts being restricted to activities, so I've had quite a few lessons in this department. Take it slow, but that doesn't mean you can't work on physically transforming. This is a great time to work on emotional and spiritual health and transformation too. Really great time!
![]() I can do lunges and squats on the smith machine with heavy weight. I hadn't stepped onto a tennis court since surgery, until this week. Last year I did a triathalon, just a few weeks ago I ran the half marathon in Denver. All of you can return to nearly whatever it is you desire, just be patient as you do the necessary work to rebuild. |

2 1/2 years ago I was playing basketball an did not know a ball had rolled into the court until I went for a layup and came down on it...ouch. I ended up getting the miniscus worked on 6 months later as I still could not straighten my knee.
1 1/2 years ago I came down on someone's ancle and twisted my knee (playing basketball) 8 months ago...I think it was on week 3 or 4 of my challenge, I was playing basketball alone and cut to the side and that was enought to twist my knee again! (I videotaped it in my video journal...and I have not played basketball since -- even though it is a fabulous cardio workout!). What I have found is all the leg extensions and curls and calf work in the world does not help strengthen the side to side muscles holding my knee together...so, I guess at 38 I am done playing hoops! (this is ok as it is only a matter of time that I get caught in an awkward position jumping and the lower back goes out...way tooo many charges taken in my early days!) Anyhow, I did finish my challenge, had great results...ran the 1/2 marathon (Denise beat me by 6ish minutes...darn it!) and I am doing great! |
