My grace is enough for you. When you are weak, my power is made perfect in you.
2 Corinthians 12:9 (NCV) This is a tough one sometimes. But when we are down to nothin, God is up to somethin. I got to remind myself and my youngest son this last night when he rebroke his collarbone during his first game back from the initial break. I really thought the doctor was wrong in saying Layne was free to play and the bone was healed. This is one instance of many when mom has known more then the PhD. Onward and upward. There is a lesson and opportunity for growth in every adversity. |

My husband started running for cardio training, but soon developed knee pain and has been advised to stop running and stop doing Lower Body workouts altogether until he loses some weight - on the grounds that with the excess bodyweight he is carrying, his legs are already getting a resistance workout every day! ... I recently strained a muscle in my arm and have to rest from Upper body workouts for a little whiile - my favourite! But because I love to work out with Neil, and we have a stationary cycle in our home workout area, I decided to do a HIIT cardio session while he was doing Upper Body. As he went up in weights, I increased the resistance on the cycle - and had "rest" intervals while he was changing weights and recovering between sets. As it happens, cycliing and HIIT are my least two favourite methods of exercise, so while Neil was totally focused, calm and controlled and I was cycling flat out, I wanted to scream at him, "Hurry up and do your 12th rep, so I can stop!!" He was totally oblivious to me, while I was totally focused on him. It was pretty funny because it symbolised what we are like in real life: he is so calm and peaceful, while I exhaust myself by stressing out over nothing.
In the end, though, I was proud that instead of feeling sorry for myself that I couldn't do Upper Body, I got up anyway and did a challenging cardio workout. |

Man did I need to find this Forum. I broke my right wrist Wednesday night and am feeling very frustrated that every time I start to make vhanges something happens to stop my process. I am now in a cast ffom above my elbow to my fingers and waiting a week to see if the wrist needs to be pinned. But I have decided that I will not quit or be defeated. I will work with what I have and do what I can do to continue on my journey.

GREAT ATTITUDE !
Don't give up because of a setback - just continue to do ALL that you can ... and be extra-focused on your healthy nutrition ... you're going to do great !!!

I hope that this helps some of you, as I have had two back injuries. I recovered by doing lane swimming. I did the breast stoke without putting my hands over my head. The water helped me maintain neutral spin. I also cross-train after a recent hip injury from skating. I don't do to much of one thing, but many different cardio and weight training exercises. Rest, and nutrition are the key to recovery, and looking at the why it happened. Yoga is a good preventative in muscle injury, as long as you don't over stretch.
