Foot Pain

Last week my right ham string was bothering me. It snapped when I was stretching out after walk/run HIIT cardio. So, for several days I've just been walking....fast. 30 min. to 60 min. per day. Yesterday, several hours after I walked my right foot started hurting in the top of the arch.
I sure hope it isn't a stress fracture, but wouldn't know one if I saw it. I love walking and it makes my day go so much better. I took some anti inflamatory pills today and tylenol arthritis. Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions?
They would be appreciated.
ps. I'm almost 57 and have excellent bone density.

I wish I could help you my friend.

Do you think it might be: Plantar fasciitis?

There is a whole post about that one below your post.

I get to be in a wheelchair for six weeks

I'm at my wits end. I just got out of the hospital a couple of days ago and was told I can't walk for six weeks. I had a bone taken from my hip and placed in my foot. Well, the dr. isn't sure if the surgery worked or not and there's a possibility I could still lose my foot. Well, I got the Transformation Challenge in my e-mail and said to myself "If Julie Whitt could do it, I could do it". I was really excited until I read the challenge date ended while I was still in the hospital. I wish it could be extended for unusual circumstances like mine. I would like to "get to" be a part of this challenge, even if it is from a wheelchair. I can still do upper body workouts and eat right. Since reading that the final date for the challenge has passed, I'm bummed out again. Any advice or uplifting stories would be greatly appreciated. I know I'm better off than most and am truely grateful for what I do have. I just want to be part of the Transformation Team and now I'm feeling a little left out. Please send me some smiles my way.
Thanks and best of luck to all of you accepting the challenge. You will be amazing!

Hey Laura! Maybe one of the more Senior Members here can steer you in the direction of questions re late entrants - maybe Coach-Stoney or Rightlight can assist. But do the Challenge anyway! We'd love to follow along with you and you could pave the way for any members who may find themselves wheelchair bound in the future. Let us know the types of exercises you're doing, how you're managing your eating while being sedentary. You could end up writing a new addition to the BFL work!

Here's plenty smiles coming you way and big (HUGS).

Thank you, Xena! I WILL do the challenge anyway and also do as you suggest and ask Coach-Stoney or Rightlight about late entry. I guess in my case, the challenge will just be a bit more challenging. Thanks for the smiles and hugs. You're really kind in helping me out and cheering me on. Best of luck on your journey!

Laura, I am really sorry to hear about your situation. Please do the challlenge anyhow. If you have seen the BFL book there is a young lady pictured that is in a wheel chair. She did an awesome job. There is also a guy that I've seen on the BFL site or one of the BFL book or journal. If they can do it, so can you! I believe in you.

How is your foot feeling Marie? It's on the top side of your foot, not the underside, right?
I will say a prayer for you as well as for Laura.

Laura- Please don't feel discouraged. The set backs you and Marie are experiencing are invaluable tools in the fine tuning process of what it takes to be all that you aspire and dream to be. Keep pushing forward and most of all, keep looking up.

Laura2,..The heck with the challenge. Do this program for yourself. You will be a winner in the end. You are part of the team. Don't let anyone tell you different.

MightyMarie,..I think the only person who could or should advise you is your health care professional.

Thanks for all the encouragement. I pulled out my BFL journal today and also noticed people in a wheelchair who did a phenominal transformation. My question is, what kind of cardio would you suggest I do? I'm been trying to think of something and haven't come up with anything. Anyway, any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Best of luck to all of you!

MIghtyMarie - go and see your Dr. about your foot!

I had pain in my foot 2 summers ago....ignored it and walked my way through the pain in Las Vegas AND Disney! I hurt it mid-July and finally went to the Dr. in October at my dance teacher's urging (after I couldn't dance on pointe-dancers are one of the worst for continuing through the pain). Anyhow - the Dr. was very concerned it was broken - apparently you can have a break and keep walking on it. We did xrays and bone scan and he put me in a soft cast and boot. It turns out it was a really bad sprain and was never going to heal until I kept it still for at least 6 weeks!!!!

Anyhow - GO TO YOUR DOCTOR! It's the only way to have peace of mind and get to the root of the problem.

Thanks Bon, Art & Jan. The foot is feeling better, although not completely well. I'm sure now it was just from over use. We were walking / jogging 1 or 2 times per day for 30-60 minutes per session.
I quit that and switched to other types of cardio, plus I used an ankle brace for about a week and got some orthodics to put in my tennis shoes. Both of those actions have helped. .

I'd love to be running, but I think that is out of the question for some time. I won't walk more than once a week and then at a less than break neck pace. I miss seeing the morning sunrise, but a good cardio session on the stationary bike or a workout with Billy Banks or the Biggest Loser group works up a sweat, so that will have to do.

I sincerely appreciate all of the words of wisdom and encouragement from everyone here. May GOD bless each of you and give you strength to carry on with your transformation.

re foot pain

I have been experiencing foot pain since the beginning of May. I had some previous bouts of plantar fasciitis on and off and I would just change to a new pair of sneakers and it would ease up. It became so bad after 4 weeks, I went to the foot Dr. He prescibed prednisone and said to take advil. The pain became so bad, it went from the bottom of the arch to the back side of my heel and up my calf. Felt like the tendon was burning and ripping on the back of the heel. I have been going to physical therapy since beginning of July and the pain has subsided some, but I keeps coming back again, as before. I put the heel cups in the shoes, bought new sneakers, I am doing stretches for calves and arch. Is there anything else I should be doing. I think I have tendonitis and plantar fasciitis. It varies from foot to foot. Does anyone have any ideas?
I have been using the stationary bike, and have stopped power walking since June. I would love to go for walks and be able to use the ellipitcal again. Any ideas would be helpful. Thanks

since I'm a physical therapist, I would talk to your doctor to see if he/she would refer you to therapy. A physical therapist will do an indepth evaluation that may include modalities to help break the pain cycle. they can also check to see your walking and running pattern to determine the root cause of your recurrent symptoms. In the meantime I would suggest continuing to stay away from aggravating factors and add in icing to the areas of pain at least 3 times a day. Hope this helps!

The RICE....rest, immobilize, cold and elevate has helped considerably. I quit walking/jogging and found alternatives for cardio.....tae bo, biggest loser dvd, stationary bike which didn't agrevate the injury. Now I can walk one day a week for an hour and it doesn't bother me. I just know to not over do it.
Thanks to each of you for your input.
