WOW! End of week one already!! I remember at the beginning of round 1 thinking 18 weeks will be forever!

I remember so much inner turmoil and defiant attitudes (and procrastination) keeping me from giving it 100%. Now, I realize that 18 weeks was really just a snap of the finger, it went by so fast, and I regret not having been more disciplined. I remember something that ...SLCyHawk (Paul) posted in those beginning weeks, a quote from a young girl,

.." when your are going through it you sometime question: Why am I doing this? Is all this work worth it? Yet when you finish you look back and think I should/could have done more!"

I think this will be my mantra for round 2!

So here's wishing all of you a GREAT week of 110% output so when you look back you will be proud of yourselves, and without regret , know that you could not have given more!

Hey everyone! I hope you all had a wonderful 4th of July. I ate way too much. I have to admit, I did not get off to a great start last week. I was over commited, and over tired, and yes, I am just making excuses.... Today was a great day. I got up this morning and got in a good workout, and I completely stuck to my plan as far as eating. I'm ready to make some progress!! My brother is getting married next Saturday so I want to have a really good week so I can enjoy the good food, and feel good in my dress. Rebecca mentioned setting some goals for our group. I thought one goal we could set is a dead line for our assignments. These can be easy to put off, and if we have a dead line it might help. What do you think? Let's say we will post assignment #4 by next Sunday. If you feel comfortable posting #1 do that as well, there isn't really anything to post for #2 and #3. We can all post them on the assignment thread that we started last round. Everyone in?

Bob- I love movies too! Next time you go pop some low fat microwave popcorn at your house, put some in a baggie and have your wife bring it in her purse. No, it's not exactly the same. But, it is still good and you won't have the guilt. Your jump rope routine sounds intense, that is really great exercise!

Chrisi- I'm glad you got a lot of yard work done, that is great! Good job getting in the wii fit, I tried that today for the first time. It was really fun!

Rebecca- I know what you mean about time management, I can tend to do things last minute too. What did you recently paint? I'm glad you got to see the fire works. We went to a parade in the morning and saw fire works in the evening. It was a really nice day. Have you heard from Tammy?

Heather- I'm glad you are feeling so good about this round. I love the post from Paul that you posted, it was a great reminder. I miss him!! Were you able to send your packet?

I hope the rest of you had a wonderful weekend. Let's make week two AWESOME!!! Have a great night!

Hi everyone, hope you all had a great weekend and a fabulous week 1? I've done really well this week and feel terrific. No cheating !!! I'm still feeling very motivated which I never thought would be possible. I do have a question though. Maybe someone went through this also? I've lost my appetite somewhat? I know crazy right? I love food but the last 2 days I have literally had to force myself to eat and I've only ended up eating half of my meals. Anyone know??? ~Sam

Hi everyone! What a wonderful 4th weekend! We over planned our Saturday but had a blast. The annual neighborhood parade/picnic, followed by a local parade, fun BBQ at our house that turned into great times with many (I love our neighborhood), and the day ended with beautiiful fireworks with more neighbors. I must admit I took advantage of the "cheat day" but not as much as I had planned : ) I went to the store to pick up last minute ingredient for a salad and felt the need to purchase a bag of Combos and a Dove candy bar. Looked forward to them so much, but fell asleep with exhaustion before I ever squeezed them in. . . there is always next time.

Hard to believe we are already one week into this journey. "Dieting" has never worked for me and I have never even completed a week of healthy eating - this is diifferent. I do enjoy the Body For Life way of eating, but really believe the current level of success (knocking on wood) is more mental. I am early in the process but am thrilled to get to know each of you as the weeks continue the fly. Thank you for your tips, suggestions and honesty.

Sara: You will have a great week this week! I cannot wait to hear about your brother's wedding! There will be many great family photo's next weekend.

Bob: Glad you liked the movie UP. I have heard mixed reviews and was looking to take the boys soon.

Rebecca: "Time Management" is such a mind boggling term. It amazes me when people tell me how organized I am - I smile and say thanks but hope they never find out about the real me. Good luck with those goals a well!

Off to check out a friends place at the lake. This will be a new experience for this city girl!

Hey! I hope you all had a wonderful day. It was beautiful and sunny here in Ohio. I took my kids to the pool, which is always a lot of fun. I played Wii Fit with my son for a while and then did the BFL upper body workout. No cheating with my food today, so I am feeling really good. Tomorrow morning I am going to get up and go to the gym to do cardio on the eliptical.

Samantha- My appetite seems to go up and down. One day I don't feel hungry or tempted at all, and then on another day I really want to eat. I would suggest not skipping meals. Your body needs the energy for all of the exercising you are doing, and you don't want your blood sugar levels to crash. I'm glad things are going so well, that is AWESOME!

Chrisi- I am so happy for you that things are going so well. Keep up the great work, all of your effort is going to pay off big time!

I hope the rest of you had a wonderful day!! Don't forget to get started on those assignments . I'm looking forward to a great tomorrow!!

I'm BACK!

Hi friends,
I appologize for my absence this last week. After the GOBA bike ride, we just really needed a rest week. After riding bike all week, and camping, and driving, I came home to 14 adorable puppies, and 2 weeks of weeds in the garden. I have also kind of been in what I like to call a "pity trip" for the last week. I had planned on losing much more than the 20 pounds lost last challenge. I really dedicated myself to workouts, and then let the eating slide gradually. I am happy that I have lost 20 pounds, but have SO much more to go. I am also happy that I can ride my bike for 60+miles, but will make the "century" (100 miles in one day) my new goal for this challenge.
The puppies are doing very well. All 14 are still with us. I have been bottle feeding 4 of them occasionally to help Lily out. I have to wash their bedding twice a day now, and their eyes are opening up. They are so sweet! My mom was here today, and we weeded the garden and found out their are still plants in there. The girls each had a friend over to play with today, so I had 4 kids (gosh Sara, have I told you how awesome you are?) Actually, they all played really well together.
Sara, Rebecca, and Heather, thanks so much for the emails, and checking up on me. I am not as committed as I need to be yet, but will work on it.
Sara, Your pictures are great! You have been very disciplined, and it has paid off. Keleigh is going to Round Lake Camp this month (29-31). You are gonna look great for the wedding, and by now, you must be a pro at attending weddings. Are you in this one?
Rebecca, Sounds like you have been pretty busy yourself these days. When we were on our GOBA trip, I met a lady that said her passion was kayaking. They also have kayaking trips you can take (like GOBA) where you camp and paddle each day. I asked her if she could do a roll, and I don't think she could,
It made me think of you.
Heather, glad to see you back. You sound very motivated, and that is awesome!
Lisa, I was also glad to see you on here. I am sorry the foot is still not doing so great. If you decide to go with biking, you won't be sorry. It is an initial investment, but the freedom feels so good. The shoes keep the bottom of your foot very stiff, which would probably be helpful for you, or you could just wear regular tennis shoes with inserts. Your new picture is very pretty.
Kelli, You have done an awesome job with you weight loss, and deserve a big congrats. The marathon sounds so great. Please keep us posted. I hope Sean gets his new bike fixed up.
Bob, Sam, Chrisi, I look very forward to getting to know you more. I will try to keep up on posts better.
Best to all,
Tammy

Hello! I hope you all had a great day! I did over four miles on the eliptical, and ate really well. It feels good to be back on track! I got a message from Paul (SKyhawk for those of you that are new) and he is returning to our group . He is always so insightful and supportive, I'm so glad he is coming back. He sent me an inspiring story that I wanted to share with all of you... Here is what he wrote:

In the 1968 Olympics a Kenyon won the marathon in a time of something like 2 hrs 45 min.

Tanzanian runner John Stephen Ahkwari was the last runner in the marathon.

He came in about an hour and a half after the winner, practically carrying his leg, as it was so bloodied and bandaged.
Film Director Bud Greenspan asked him, “Why did you keep going?” He said, “You don’t understand. My country did not send me 5,000 miles to start a race, they sent me to finish it.

So that led me to say "you know what - I am going to go ahead and finish - I may be limping in over the finish line, but I will go ahead and finish"
I looked it up online - here is the story
http://speedendurance.com/2007/07/15/how-to-finish-a-marathon-1968-olympics-in-mexico-city/

Tammy- I was so happy to log on and see you!!! I have missed you! No one can blame you for wanting a week of rest after all that biking! You'll have to send us some new pictures of the puppies. You should not at all feel bad about losing 20 pounds, that is a lot of weight!!! When you lose another 20 this round you will be up to 40, that is going to be AWESOME! You worked so hard and were such a great support to this group! No, I am not in this wedding, but Hayden (my six year old) is the ring bearer. I can't wait to see him in his tux!

Everyone else- I hope you had a great day of transformation!! If you need a little inspiration, read the story above!!

Tomorrow I am going to do the BFL lower body workout, and then clean my house so I am ready for all of the guests that are coming on Friday.

Sara

Hey all! Been without computer access for the last two days, nice to see all the action on the board! Week 2 has begun, training and eating is going well. Still need to complete assignment #1, I've reviewed it and done some of it including developing my photos and writing some thoughts down about it, I just need to finalize the work and move on two #2.

Rebecca - For accountability we could all list our food and training regimen's for the day along with where we are in the assignments and how they are affecting us. What do you think? Glad I'm not the only popcorn addict! I'd love to try kayaking but my job restricts it, I'm a landscaper working out of town, I barely have time to sleep.

Heather - that's a great quote from that girl!! I sent you a personal message regarding my training for BFL transformation in 2005.

Sara - Thanks for the popcorn tip, I'll give it a try. Like the idea about the assignments, I'm only on week 2 though so I won't be able to get week 4 done by Sunday. I'm trying to keep to 1 assignment per week. Enjoy the wedding!

Sam - Wow, I'm the opposite, hungry all the time! I wish I could help, but I'm clueless on this one. My only suggestion would be to try and get in all your meals to keep your energy up and your metabolism motoring!

Chrisi- Try to see 'Up' in 3D, amazing! Glad you had fun at the BBQ, hope you're having a great week so far!

Tammy - I'm looking forward to getting to know you as well! What kind of puppies do you have? I have two chocolate labs and they mean the world to me. Awesome job with the cycling and the 20lb loss, love the 100 mile goal!

Hi there everyone,
So week number 1 went really well apart from a loss of appetite. This week however is different. I'm an emotional eater and boy have I been emotional. Today I have to put my bestfriend of 16 years down. Cody my dog. The greatest dog ever. The hardest thing I've ever had to do. I'm so heatbroken that all I think about is turning to my other bestfriend/enemy.....food. It's been so hard....SO HARD but I haven't caved yet and I won't. I just keep logging onto t.com and read blogs and profiles. You all are keeping me motivated right now. I'm so thankful for all of you. Have a great week!!
P.S
I too LOVE popcorn...lol ~Sam

Plans for today ... run 12 miles, tough after being off almost a week from running. But i need to the marathon is on sept. 6th and I have to stay on track ! Not go to work until 9 pm . see my husband for 30 seconds before then. sleep 7-8 hours before work. possibly hit the lake for a dip....

Turned in my packet in the midst of all hell breaking loose at work. While at kinkos I saw a former client from veterinary cancer care. The world is very small. The next day I am flipping through runners world and here is a four page article on her and her running buddy about the importance of running buddies.... crazy.

Next story to share is a pair of clients are obviously writing a thankyou card to us and were quizing my husband on everyone's names. I am skinny and pretty brounette with her hair in a pony tail. "skinny" hasn't been me since high school.

Last but not least my mother-in-law and I were at a lookout taking pictures and got honked and whistled at not once, but twice.... Love it.

I worked an enormous amount last week, but I look in good shape to work only 50 hours this week. Things are looking up. Plus with both of us working the holiday we should be sitting pretty for income this week!!! The only workout I have done though is a leg workout. I barely had time to sleep 4 hours let alone work out.

Sam- This is an every day thing for my husband and I and after 19 years in vet medicine I am slightly more detached and sensible, but every "best friend" who gets euthanized at the clinic puts Sean into a tail spin. It never gets easier, but we have to look at it for the amazing gift that it is. We can give them the life they deserve until they aren't able to live comfortably. We don't force them to live out their days in a hospital bed with dimentia or on respirators while in excrutiating pain. If only we could provide that type of kindness to our human best friends. We live in a day and age now when we can make them comfortable into their 20s with pain medication and good nutrition and health care. We have a different sense of obligation to our pets, they are no longer pets they are our best friends. They are more loyal than mates. They listen better than our spouses.
Losing my horse of 16 years, a 32 year old thoroughbred hunter/jumper man of all work, was one of the lowest times of my life as well. If there is anything I can do, let me know. PS post a picture and some stories when you are ready. There is nothing more cathartic than making 50 people on a website miss Cody too.
Paparock, Hungry all the time is hard. Keep full on water for one thing 80% of all hunger pangs are actually thirst. Secondly broccoli , brussel sprouts, cauliflower and carrots are great fillers and are " free " in BFL I am a huge fan of filling up on brocolli slaw. It tastes fun ( I am not a huge fan of brocolli by itself) and is easy to tote around. I fill a leaf of butter lettuce with that and the thinnest smear of light ranch or hummas ( i can't spell it) and make 10 of them to carry around for filler. Now I am hardly hungry with my body adjusting to the lifestyle.

Hey guys, not so many posts today? I hope everyone is keeping busy and training hard. I had a tough day, worked from 7am to 10pm and then hit the gym for cardio, bi's and calves. Can't do any other legs until the hammy heals up. It's almost 1am, gotta be up at 4 so I'm crashing in a minute.

Sam - I'm so sorry about Cody, I'd love to know about him and see his picture as I am a huge dog lover. I'm glad he made it to 16, I can only hope my boys live to that age. Take care of yourself and know we're here.

Kel - Thanks for the tips on hunger, I'll give them a try when I get a chance to go shopping. Your work week sounds like mine, 50 hours is a nice week. I'm getting hardly any sleep tonight either, congrats on the packet!

Hi Everyone. We've been having terrible weather here in New England recently. But last night we went for an evening paddle with a friend. At first it just seemed gray and dreary but turned out calm with beautiful dramatic dark clouds reflected in the water. We got back after dark, just in time to see the moon come up and rise into the clouds. Today is sunny! I had to drop my car off at the shop this morning, so my exercise was walking home (I might get a lot more walking in if the car doesn't start working better.)

Tomorrow I am going out in a friends boat to an island I've wanted to go to for a long time. The island is too far for me to easily paddle to. There are nesting birds so you can't walk to the middle of the island but you can go on the beach that has polished black stones. I'm bringing my paints, so it's not a total day off, but it should be really fun.

I've been on a rather restricted diet lately, no gluten, dairy, peanuts, or eggs, low salt, and I've felt great. Yesterday I totally slipped up. I need to go to the natural foods store and pick up a few of my essentials (but the car is in the shop). I ate peanuts as a snack, (they looked really good) then I had a granola bar while paddling (sugar and oats), blue corn chips (salt) and then made a roasted veggie dish that had ricotta and egg and cheese that we ate around 10:30, after our night paddle. I didn't feel badly while eating any of these things, but woke up this morning two hours later than usual with a headache and feeling terrible.

I think I will start posting my meals again, it does help.

I hope everyone is doing well.

Bob, if you are feeling hungry, maybe you need more volume of food. The recommended amounts are for average activity. I would think that landscaping is physically demanding (depending on what you are doing). We figure we use 350-500 calories an hour paddling, that's great for me, but my husband needs to maintain his weight, a few hours of paddling uses a lot of extra food. I would think landscaping would too.

Kelly, you're the skinny one! Nice compliments, although I'm not so sure about the wolf whistles. You do keep really busy, it's great you are able to fit running in. Do you have home improvement projects for this challenge?

Sara, thanks for posting that link. Another wedding! Your son will be very cute, take lots of photos.

Tammy, I'd love to see more photos of the puppies. - I think it's harder to stick with a program in the summer with so much stuff going on, and harder to sit at the computer. I lost 22 lbs during the first challenge too. When I see how much other people lost I feel kind of discouraged, but my goal was to make changes I could easily live with and I think I can stick with what I've been doing. Some people on here are crazy, working out for hours and barely eating. 20 pounds is more that one pound a week, a very safe and steady loss. I have a lot more to go too, in fact most people can't even tell I've lost any. Oh well, I feel better and stronger. I know you must too, with all that cardio kickboxing. My goals for this challenge are to continue slow and steady, and to work on the organizing and time management, I still have not delt with that closet!! It's really embarassing, I have piles of clothes everywhere. We don't let people into our apartment. - How is Zarf doing? He has a responsiblity to be a good influence on you, at least not a bad one! You can tell him I said so.

Chrisi, how was the lake?

Sam, my heart goes out to you and the loss of your buddy. I hope the eating is going OK.

Heather, how's it going?

Paul, how are you?

Have a great day everyone, -Rebecca

Hey! I hope you all had a great day. I was not able to get on a computer to post last night. Today was good, until my three year old had an asmatha attack this evening. I could tell it was coming on all day. He ended up having to go in for breathing treatments and steroids. He seems to be feeling better, but the steroids make him a little coo coo! This is the third asthma attack he has had in the last six months. It is just frustrating because I have no idea what is triggering it. Anyway, all seems to be well--except for the fact that he is going to be on steroids for my brother's wedding- could be interesting! Yesterday I did the BFL lower body workout. I ended up having to take today off. I am a big time emotional eater, so I did well today considering I was very stressed. Tomorrow I am going to get up and do cardio as well as the BFL upper body workout. Like Bob said, why don't we just make our assignment deadlines go along with the week we are in. So, if you are ready to post for assignment one do that soon. Since there is nothing to post for #2 and #3 why don't we just plan to post assignment #4 by the end of week 4. Does that sound good to everyone? Should we do a new assignment thread, or just keep going with the one from last round? I wish I knew how to get rid of some of the threads we don't use, does anyone know how to do that?

Sam- I am SO SORRY about Cody. I can't imagine how hard that must be for you. When you feel up to it, like Kelly said, I would love it if you would share some pictures. Good job staying strong and not giving in to the temptation to eat, that is so hard. I'll be thinking of you!

Kelly- I bet that felt great to be called skinny! What girl wouldn't like to hear that?? It sounds like you are so busy, I'm glad that this week looks a little lighter. I hope Sean is doing well.

Rebecca- I'm glad today was Sunny . Have fun on the island. You should take a picture of your painting and post it for us to see. I'm sorry you felt so bad this morning, I guess that lets you know that those foods really do not agree with you.

Bob- It sounds like you had a really busy day! I'm glad your workouts are going well. I hope you got some sleep last night and had a good day.

I have a lot of family coming in town for the wedding so I am not sure if I will be able to get on this weekend or not. If not, I hope you all have a wonderful weekend! I will post some pictures of my little ring bearer next week. Have a great night!

Hey All! I have to pull an all nighter now since I need to leave for work in about an hour, sucks. I definately need to work on getting more sleep, I just have so much to do right now. I did get my workout in tonight, chest and tri's and it was fantastic. I did a 1/2 hour of cardio beforehand as well. Eating wasn't the best, had a bbq with a burger and a pepsi, other than that the day was good. Training is great but I'm struggling with food a bit.

Rebecca - I probably do need to increase my food a bit, I'm working and sweating all day. Hope your car is working better! Your paddling trips sound awesome!

Sara - Sorry to hear about your toddler, everything still ok now?

Hello, everyone! My name is Tina and I would love to join your group if you'll have me! I started the BFL program on June 29th and found this site a few days later. I haven't done the assignments yet (been procrastinating!) but I did take my before pics when I started the BFL challenge. I am planning to start the assignments tomorrow.

I am 40 years old, mom of five. I had my last baby a little over two months ago and am nursing. I have had three babies in the last three years, so I am very eager to get myself back in shape! My goal is to lose another 20-30 lbs. I have lost 37 already since I delivered. I am a registered nurse, working in labor and delivery. I love what I do, but I am not really looking forward to going back to work Monday after ten weeks off!

Enough about me...I am excited to get to know you guys!

Hi everyone Hope you're all having a great weekend so far. I just finished my BFL cardio session and boy did I kick butt again. I'm feeling really great. Feeling very much like the energizer bunny. I've got my appetite back finally. Probably had alot to do with my dog. Still have a broken heart but I know in time that will heal. Thanks to all of you for your concern. It means alot.

Sara ~ I hope your little guy is feeling much better and the wedding was a great success. I'm totally in for doing our assignments weekly. Not sure if I'm really ready to post that before pic. Have to work up the nerves to it.

Kelly~ I lost my father on April 30th to lung failure and he suffered for 5 weeks. You're absolutely right. It's too bad we can't end the suffering for our human friends like were able to for our furry friends. I admire you for the work you do. I would be like your hubby a blubbering mess each time.

Bob~ Well from one dog lover to another.....Wednesday was the hardest day ever. Cody was part German Shepherd and part Rottweiler. He was such a great dog. Couldn't have asked for a better one. Very loyal! I hope you're getting your hunger issues in control.

Rebecca~ It's sounds like were on a similar diet. Gluten is for sure not a friend of mine. Are you kidding it makes me so bloated and makes me look and feel like i'm 9 months pregnant. I feel great also with not having it in my body.

Tina~ Hi there and welcome. Looking forward to getting to know you.

Tammy~ Have a great weekend. Would love to see puppy pictures. Thats alot of puppies lol!!!!

Ok well off to finish some landscaping. The rain has FINALLY ended. Today is my free day and I think I'll be pretty good. Keep to my regular meals....however....bring on the Jelly babies. Mmmmmm can't wait!!!!
Take care everyone

Sam

Hi, Sam!

So sorry about your dog...it is so difficult losing a pet.

Congrats on your workout! Doesn't it feel so good to know you worked out for the day?? I hate when I can't fit in a cardio work-out. Today I wanted to take the kids to the outdoor pool at the YMCA, but first i wanted to get in a quick 30 minutes on the Ellipitical. However, my almost three-year-old and 21-month-old were whiny and it was getting late, so I knew they wouldn't do well in the nursery there. I decided to just go straight to the pool and save my sanity.

I have decided that I am just going to have to put on my running shoes and go for a walk/run when my husband gets home from work. I think it's going to be important for me to stay flexible and know that when you have five kids, your life doesn't always go as planned! I haven't really done much running in 14 years, so we'll see how it goes.

Hey! I hope you all had a great weekend! The wedding was great, my brother and his new wife looked so happy! Hayden did great as the ring bearer, and danced like a mad man all night. Harrison truly was a MAD MAN on steroids, and had to leave before they served dinner. His breathing is almost back to normal, guess that is what matters most, and his behavior today is much better than yesterday. Only two more days and he is off those meds!! While I enjoyed myself tremendously, I enjoyed the food over this past weekend way too much! I'm feeling pretty yuck today and looking forward to a normal day tomorrow. All of our company has gone and our house is pretty quiet. Tomorrow I am going to do the BFL lower body workou, and try to get in some cardio too.

Bob- How do you survive an all nighter?? I would truly lose my mind. I'm glad your workouts are going so well. It sounds like your eating is going pretty well too. Is your injury getting better?

Tina- I'm so glad you are here! I can't believe that you have already starting exercising and have lost 37 pounds when your baby is only 2 months old!! That is really impressive, I usually am still in my PJs when my babies are 2 months old! . It sounds like your house is really busy and fun.

Sam- It sounds like your workouts are going awesome! I can feel the energy in your post ! I noticed that you are from Kitchener. There are very few places I have ever been in Canada, but I used to go there every year growing up to visit relatives. I remember the little things that were different, like milk that comes in a plastic bag and soda cans that open differently. Anyway, I always enjoyed going there.

The rest of you- I hope you are all doing FABULOUS! Week three is already beginning!! Can you believe it?? These 18 weeks are going to fly by in the blink of an eye, let's make the best of it!!!

Have a great night!
Sara

Hi all ! I have been working hard to get enough sleep these days and missed a run for 5+ days in a row. I also haven't had much chance to weight train. Today is my "day off" although most of it is sleeping from last night's over night shift. I have a rotten apple that I am dealing with at work along with my normal gig and it has been trying. Sean is having a rough day today which is also a concern. I hope to do a 14 miler later when it is cooler and I am rested. I also just invested in runnning shoes ( the shop owner was great and had all she could do not to laugh at the cross trainers I have been wearing) So I look forward to a good run. Back on the wagon!!! I have been eating ok not great. I tend to miss meals at work. I had a great free day saturday! Our coworker took us out for dinner at the brew pub.

Hey all! I hope you all had a great start to week three! Today I helped teach Bible School at my church. We had about 200 kids. It was really fun, but wore me out! Tonight I did the BFL lower body workout. I had hoped to get in some cardio today, but never got it done. Tomorrow I will get up and do cardio and then take my kids swimming. It is supposed to be 84 and sunny .

Kelly- I hope you got some rest and got in a good run. It sounds like you have been really busy. I hope that Sean is feeling better. Enjoy the new running shoes .

I hope the rest of you are doing great. This thread has been a little quiet...... Can't wait to hear from you all.
