Bobby I'm proud of you. Driving was one of my downfalls when smoking too. I now keep a bottle of water with ice in drink holder when driving. Whenever i feel like smoking i drink ice cold water. It seems to work. If that does not work try adding some crystal lite flavoring to it. Also i cut bananas up and freeze them for a treat. Tastes great with a protein drink.

Have a great week.

Also whenever you really feel like smoking go for a run. You cannot run and smoke. LOL breathing would be next to impossible.

Hi.

I've done this myself based on the experience and hints from my mother. Then I've recently helped my husband quit.

I've written a book based on his experience.

We personally feel the worst thing to do is take chemical medication to assist with the process... we'd tried everything and it didn't work.

When we experience physical cravings, it is our body telling us that we're in need of something. On some level, for whatever reason, those 'feel good' hormones are begging to be satiated. It is all to do with brain chemistry. This can relate to nutritional deficiencies (even though we're working on improving our diet, long term smoking robs the body of vitamins and minerals, and the cocktail of chemicals can lead to heavy-metal toxicity).

There's a fair bit of information, which is why I put it into a book format! It's not you, it's just body chemistry still needing to be rebalanced. I had my amino-acid status assessed, as well as heavy metal toxicity. There are specific healthful foods that boost this anyway, and they're 'clean'... If your body is balanced on all levels, it should make no difference at all if people smoke around you :-) In the meantime, remove yourself from these situations - it's better for your health anyway not to be in the vicinity of toxic chemicals.

Also, I realised that the generic 'quit smoking' methods don't address the CORE issue of why people smoke in the first instance. I used a healing technique that cleared the underlying emotions, thoughts, feelings, beliefs etc... that were imbalanced as well, therefore blocking our chances at success.

This has nearly become a novel in itself ;-)

I hope this helps.

I was alot like what Melody said about that I used them not to deal with things. Sometimes now when my emotion get really intense I instantly feel the urge to smoke but I don't entertain the option. I've been an escapee all my life...alcohol, drugs, smoking, food, and everything else that could make me feel a tad bit numb. I have been off of alcohol and drugs for some time now but I sure had a hard time giving up smoking. I quit once and thought I would take just a puff one day but that puff lasted for eight years. I quit for the last time just over 3 months ago after I read Richard's experience he had on this site. When i get the urge to smoke, I know it's either memories of wanting to not deal with something. It is not an option anymore for me. I smoked everyday for 25 years. (except for a short stint 8 years ago) I am so grateful I quit. I am working on forgiving myself for doing that to myself and my family for so long.

gotpeppernosalt- why do the people your with offer you cigarettes when you have been quit for 5 years?

To all other smokers- I wish you success in quitting and if I can do anything to help you on that journey please e-mail me.

Hey Bobby! Congratulations!!! I hear ya! The hardest part for me was certain times and actions where I would smoke. Driving in my car was one of them. I actually tried to kid myself that I was covering up the smell with air fresheners. My kids would get in and say, Oh man, it stinks in here. Someone walks by me now that smokes and it just smells awful. I am so happy to know that is not me anymore! Aren't you!!!! It has been since June 26th for me. Still get tinges of cravings now and then, but nothing that doesn't immediately go away. Never, ever, ever, will I ever put another cigarette in my mouth. Congratulations again!!! It is an amazing accomplishment and only someone who has smoked and quit can truly appreciate the hard work it takes! Horrible, horrible addiction! Way to go! BE PROUD!

Hey Bobby.
You're doing an amazing job. It's perfectly normal to have these cravings. Don't give in to it though, otherwise you'll have to start the entire process all over again... and you've already come so far!

You're already getting more oxygen... which is brilliant for your blood... and also your muscles :-)

The cravings will be decreasing in their strength all the time. Try eating some almonds, and other L-Tyrosine containing foods. The L-Tyrosine will help keep the Dopamine levels in check... which is what gets stimulated by the nicotine. Good old amino acids :-)

Boredom can bring them on too...

My brother-in-law had this weird thing where he drank orange juice and then COULD NOT even THINK about touching a cigarette. Funny about that. So he drank juice and got off the cigarettes. I can't imagine the 2 flavours going down really well together... Yuck.

Hang in there, it's just the chemicals rebalancing.

Treat yourself to something nice - reward yourself for being so clean and smelling SO GOOD ;-) Whatever else relaxes you and seems a bit indulgent, go for it. Then have a nice early night, get some quality sleep and this will also help.

Good for you and keep up the good work!

Lisa.
