I am with you Clarissa. I am not a runner. Even though I have run many miles in my life playing sports, in my ARMY days, etc. I have never really enjoyed running. But I do enjoy a challenge. I registered for the half marathon way back even though I could barely walk a mile without difficulty. This will be my second experience with Make-A-Wish. The other being through BFL. For as long as I can remember I have supported The March of Dimes and Easter Seals. My older brother was born with serious problems and our family benefitted from MOD. He died at the age of four. As far back as I can remember my mother took me to MOD Walkathons. She volunteered in her spare time for them. Later on, I had other family and friends treated at St. Jude's Children's Hospital in Memphis, TN and I began supporting them through fund raisers such as road blocks. Later, I added Susan G. Komen foundation and the American Cancer Society because my mother developed Non-Hodgekin's Lymphoma. Even though she didn't have breast cancer she was invited to walk in a SGK local event one year because she was a cancer survivor. I walked that race with her. The next year my mother died. We all have our own charities that are very special in our hearts. And we can't give to everybody, I know. But I don't want another charity to find me. As us Baptist say, Make-A-Wish is one of those, "Dig a little deeper." causes. If you can, and want to, accept this challenge. Even if you are not going to Denver. David

I'm definitely in for the 1/2 marathon with you Clarissa!

It feels so amazing to be part of something that is going to make such a different for those kids! My brother told be today he would pledge $10 per mile, and I'm so excited!!

We're definitely going to make that $100,000 goal!!

Cheers,
Paul.

Definitely in for the half and I would love to be there at the starting line with you.

My inspiration started back in january when i first watched the Denver video. i viewed the marathon as the pinnacle of my transformation. I knew then that if I could make it to that finish line that would represent the official start of my new life. I consider myself still in training for this new life. I am still honoring new comitments and setting/meeting new goals. I am learning and establishing new habits and removing limiting beliefs.

I am comitted to this journey and can't wait to start that race.

I am a Denver local and I am definitely in for the 1/2!!!

Like you before you did the marathon, I have never run a race, I did sprints and field sports in high school track, but have never gone the distance. I am training and visualizing and will be ready by October. I will be raising money for Make a Wish as well.

Can't wait to meet you and the whole T.com group!

Hey, Clarissa - I'm in for the 1/2, but I will be walking it and probably will only see the dust of all you fine runners as I bring up the rear!

But hey, Make-A-Wish will still accept pledges, no matter how small, from walkers, right? If so, count me in!

Rocktober is taking on a whole new meaning - (for those who don't know, that's what we called October in 2007 when the Colorado Rockies baseball team went to the World Series!)

Bring it on - ROCKTOBER 2009 in Denver!

I am with you Clarissa but I will be walking it if I can do it. I'm hoping to do the half but if not I will do the 5k! Either way I will do this!!
My reasoning for want to do this is I can't have any children. You see when I had my second back surgery the doctors went in through my lower abdominals and something happened so now I cannot have children. By me doing this Marathon and finishing it I am giving a child a wish to me that would be the greatest blessing I could give. God knows I love children with all my heart and this would mean the world to me ..........

I will be there once again...starting and then going and going the 1/2 with the raising money to grant a childs wish just as last year. Not sure when I will get to that finish line....it's about going the distance for me. What an emotional trip this will be re-living the experience of last year.

Looking forward and visualizing a childs smile who's wish has been granted. I have to do this in order to get motivated to train and to run! LOL!!!

Let's Go TEAM!!!

Clarissa - I've signed up for the 1/2 marathon - but will be in the walker group with Jackie. I had sent a message to the link on the original post that I wanted to be part of the fundraiser, and Leigh responded that I was on the list.
Is this the same list?

Clarissa...Im in for the 1/2!

I just paid my deposit yesterday..so its official now...and Im excited, nervous, happy, scared, but DETERMINED!

I'm not sure how much I will be running, as I tore my minicus & something else in my knee 4 days ago and Im having another knee surgery within 2 weeks....but Im giving it up to God, putting all my faith into Him and I know I will be crossing that finish line and raising money to grant a childs wish--NO MATTER WHAT!

I'm doing it first for the kids: My lil' cousin is actually on her Wish-Trip RIGHT NOW (A disney cruise to the Bahamas) so Make A WIsh hits even closer to my heart now than it did before.
And second: Im doing it because I have the opportunity...it's something Ive dreamt about for years but never believed (until now) that it was even possible! Years ago I had Doctors tell me that I would never run again because of my back injury, but I completed my 1st 4.2 mile run in 2006 and now in 2009 I will make my dream of 13.1 miles a reality..with all of my T.com Family there with me!

Clarissa,

I am in and have committed to the half marathon. Raising money for the Make A Wish Foundation is an awesome opportunity to give to these wonderful children who deserve nothing but unconditional love.........
.
I made the committment to run for me and because I NEED TO BE IN DENVER attending the workshops for motivation, purpose and to learn.

My main motivation to do this event is that I want to help raise money for the kids. But I'm also doing it to prove something to myself. Because I've always been busty, I told myself I would never be a runner even though I always wanted to. But now when I try to tell myself that I can't run, I realize it's always been a cop out. There are some excellent sports bras out there, so I'll wear two or three of them if I have to! Maybe I can find some in Hot Pink!! No more excuses. I will help kids while helping myself get over a long standing limiting belief.

Lisa
Wow, that is truly inspiring..thank you for sharing!!!
