My Mom, Pauline (known here as "Dancer at Heart") asked me to post a message that she wrote from her hospital bed:

As a dancer and lover of theater, one of my loves from long ago was the production of “The Man of La Mancha,” which was based upon the book, “Don Quixote de la Mancha,” and whose theme song was “The Impossible Dream.”

Don Quixote insisted that the “reality” that everyone around him believed was not all there was, and certainly not all that we should strive for. People called him crazy, and they laughed at him when he did things like tilting at windmills and seeing the beauty of Dulcinea in a common wench, who was unable to see her own beauty, yet he reached for the star that was in his vision. He said, “When life itself seems lunatic, who knows where madness lies? Too much sanity may be madness. To seek treasure where there is only trash. Perhaps to be practiced is madness. And madness of all, to see life as it is and not as it ought to be.”

Following in the footsteps of that glorious standard-bearer, I am currently being told the medical reality that I have at least stage 3 lung cancer that has spread to a couple of other areas in my body. I want to deal with all of the best that medical science can provide within that reality. However, since I am an graduate apprentice of both Don Quixote and of Merlin the Magician, and have been initiated as a Kahuna in the Hawaiian native culture, I choose to reach for the impossible star, to see life as it could be, and to ask for divine and human support to move in that direction.

For all of my family, friends, colleagues, clients, and other travelers on this path, I know that the impossible is possible. For example, I have the experience of hiking on a broken leg in Hawaii, while being blessed by a Kahuna, and medical doctors say that wasn’t possible.

I have both the faith and the ability to ask for help in that direction. I am finally learning to open my heart. I am at peace in either case. But, any and all support that I can ask for and receive along the direction of healing is welcome with an open heart.

I and your mom have never meet and I am charmed already by what she has written. You are both in my thoughts. Please consider when one medical model can do no more or says "there is no more that can be done" that there are other medical models that claim something more can be done. Please google the work of Dr Richard Shultz in particular the "Inncureable Program" . There are other modalities as well but this is one I know and can share. ~ david

No magical words for you can ease things at this time and I won't pretend that I have any....but know for sure without a doubt that I will pray that God heal her. I don't believe in praying in a way that God would think I don't believe He can do more than I can imagine. He is all powerful and mighty and gracious and loving... I will always ask believing and then wait for His plan of time to show up in the days ahead. I am praying for strength for you. I am here for you as are we all.... thanks for sharing dear girl. As a quick update, Mom's cancer has been diagnosed as metastasized, stage 4 lung cancer. She is currently undergoing both chemotherapy and radiation treatments. I know she would appreciate it if you would please keep her in your prayers.
