Florida Transformer Meet & Greet “Keys Spring/Summer Camp”

Attachment 467Several folks have shown interest in something like this:

Subject: Florida Transformer Meet & Greet “Keys Spring/Summer Camp”

Location: Pigeon Key (Middle Keys fl.) Pigeon Key Foundation | Home

Proposed Activates (?):
  • Bill or other “Inner circle” speaker visit and Q&A session (would be nice? Yea??) will send a email asking
  • Scheduled “focused topic talks” (I.E. 12 noon “How we handle lethargy at the pier” or “Need to vent under the palm” at 4pm. Kinda thing set up???)
  • Fishing both from shore, the bridge and any boats or Kayaks (can rent here) brought.
  • Biking (either bring or rent here) over our many miles of bike paths (that even go out to the island)
  • Jogging/Walking/Swimming/Snorkeling/Diving/Sunbathing/Spartan workouts : )
  • Cards/Chess/Dominos etc.
  • We can even arrange for gym “day passes” from Ralph (for a fee) at his Gym/Liquor & Deli store!
We probably got a good shot at renting this camp for at least a weekend (Friday noon to Sunday noon) at a fair price as I know most the board members, and if there’s enough interest maybe a whole week thus allowing people to come and go as they can get here. Just food for thought.

There are a few things necessary to making it all happen of course,

Logistics:
  • We need to know how many people (I will ask George the max we can have over the next couple of days)
  • We’ll need to put a deposit on the place so we don’t get bumped (will ask how much and % deposit)
  • Help coordinating all the people, deposits, directions, situating etc.
  • Meal planning: either left to each individual (local places to eat and shop all within a few miles) or we put money in a kitty and we take turns cooking for the group (allot can be shakes/bars/yogurt etc.) or finally we see about a catering setup for simple BF meals delivered.
  • We (wife and I) own one kayak (tandem) and a fishing boat that holds 8 (we myself navigating) so anyone with another boat (a boat ramp is by the island and Pigeon Key has its own dock to tie up to) anyone with bikes/snorkel/dive/kayaks should bring them. Although most stuff could be rented locally. (Island is located next to town i.e. Kmart, Publix, Rx, restaurants, sports & fishing spots.)
I am open to any ideas, suggestions you folks may have and bike over to the island to see how many people max. we can put up, what dates are available and cooking/kitchen eating options AND maybe they would allow some of us to set up tents for those wising to just camp out.

Drop a line and give me some feedback.

Mike

Perfect idea - Corey & I would be game for a weekend type deal. Dates are subject to work scheduled but we need to get away! ! ! Keep me posted. I like the idea (depending on number of people) of doing a group meal plan - I like to see how other people prepare the recipes and taste test each others ideas.

Hi Mike!! I think you could possibly twist our arm for the weekend! I would love for Howard and I to meet you and Mary and enjoy a bit of the Keys sunshine!

As for meals, we'd be flying in, so I think we'd probably have to just fend for ourselves... Are there cabins for the night?

I am in the process right now to see how many people are interested and around what dates will work for those interested.

I will then go to the board and see what days are available in or around that time frame for that number of people.

It does seem that a weekend not full week may be best for most.

Just putting together the interest factor today

let's talk dates. May is packed for me, so don't even think about May or I'll go all Chocolate Bunny on you. Is April too soon? If so, then we are looking at June (Hot) but if we are there to sweat, then the heat will be our friend.
We need to do the scuba/snorkle thing.
Inline skating, if there is a path.
Beach volley ball.
Surf lessons if we venture near the beach at some point.
And we gotta get ahold of some gator for people to try! (Tastes like chicken!)

I'm game for a week, but a weekend would probably work better for most. maybe a 3 day weekend. Memorial day? Probably too busy to get the place inexpensively.

Count me and my hubby, and I'll check with my baby bro and his fiance.
They'd love to come, and I can help with their logistics.

Heres the scoop for a Pigeon Key Historical Foundation Weekend T-com get together!
Place Pigeon Key Island (Middle Keys): Pigeon Key Foundation | Home

Dates Available: April 17th to 19th (noon to noon)

May 22nd to 24th

May 29th to 31st

Costs: $55 per person per night (min. of 10 needed to book. A max of about 50 can be done)

* Check the website for a view of the facilities as this is a beautiful small island on our historical register here in Florida and is “OLD KEYs living.” (This is not the 4 Seasons.) it is a place we can use to gather up to 50 T-commers for a couple of being together talking around a camp fire at night w/days of sunbathing, swimming, snorkeling, fishing reading etc. (bring our own gear.) The min. number of folks to secure a spot is 10 for two nights and 3 days. It is somewhat remote and isolated. We can use the kitchen facilities and they have a mess hall. This was the main workcamp that built "Henry Flagler's Florida East Coast Railroad" which is what “opened” up the keys to the world. (The bridge being blown up in the move “True lies” is the bridge you’re staying off of.)

Anyway if we got 10 people that want to “bunk it” on a real key and spend time T-communicating we got the place.

I’ve emailed the “hierarchy” here on Tcom about maybe a guest speaker showing up to spark us all but as of yet heard nothing back. Will post if someone wishes to get involved.

Hey Mike - thanks for all the planning preparations that you are doing for this meeting!
April 17th - 19th will be possible for me but not sure about the dates in May. My daughter's due date is May 11th and I will be heading up to Indiana for a few weeks to help her once the baby decides when it will join this world. I will keep watching to see what others are posting about their schedules. I really look forward to going down to the Keys!

Hey Mike. Memorial Day weekend would work best for me of the three dates you listed. Hoping we can pull all this together. Thanks for working on this.

Hey Mike- looks wonderful. Is there any way you could also add aweekend in June or July as a possibility to pick from? April is out for me and May is questionable. Would definately fill up if you could get a speaker (champion) from T-com to come. I will use this link to stay posted. Thanks!!
