Thanks Masteries
I really do appreciate the support - people going the extra mile - of all sorts and in various ways - and the messages.Walked my mile. I go for a steady pace I can maintain so it took 18 minutes. However, it's only the second time I've put myself out there to do a physical charity event and it will raise money for very worthwhile causes, regardless of time taken. From my fitness angle & personal progress point of view it really is moving on - when I joined t.com February 2011 I couldn't have imagined I would even think about doing such an event. More of this - at least in part in hope of avoiding this Last edited by JessL : 03-25-2012 at 09:58 AM. |

Okay all you runners, I'm doing a solo bike time trial on April 14th. My goal is ultimately do 50 miles in less than 3 hours. My time trial will be 25 miles to ascertain a starting benchmark. Between now and then I'll be putting in some miles to get ready. Len

Loving all of the Awesomazetasticalcious support that is being given. Thank you to all who have taken the time to participate in Spirit. ![]() Chip (speleofool) and I atop the Flat Iron at Lost Dutchman State Park today (Sunday, March 25th). A six mile round trip hike in support of Jess, our health and our sense of adventure. Hike #28: Siphon Draw Trail to Flatiron, Superstition Wilderness, Tonto National Forest Starting at the Lost Dutchman State Park, the Siphon Draw Trail provides an extremely strenuous climb up the Superstition Mountain. Although the Siphon Draw Trail is quite difficult, the convenient start point and trail's beauty make it very popular (and often quite crowded.) The first mile of the trail passes through the Lost Dutchman State Park and is extremely well-maintained; this segment of the trail is a luxurious dirt path with well-defined rock borders. However, the trail soon leaves the state park and enters the Superstition Wilderness. While the trail continues with a well-marked route, the path is no long the smooth dirt but instead a series of small loose rocks. The trail climbs higher and higher getting ever more narrow and rough. Eventually, the trail arrives at a large smooth stone basin, which after a heavy rain will have small streams of water cascading down its sides. To the left of the basin is a large waterfall which marks the official end of the Siphon Draw Trail. Although most people choose this as the turn-around point, a good many continue climbing along the unofficial "trail" towards Flatiron, a large, flat plateau on the top of the Superstition Mountain. The unofficial trail is quite easy to follow thanks to heavy travel and a series of white spray-painted arrows and dots. Although few route finding skills are required, the difficulty of climbing makes this one of the most challanging trails in the Superstitions. The mile between the waterfall and the top of the mountain gains over 1,500 feet in elevation and is nothing more than a continuous climb up jagged rocks. Although this part is challanging and will get the heart pounding, the rocks do provided a nice climbing surface with plenty of places to clutch as you drag yourself up the mountain. Finally, after climbing until you think you can go no further, you arrive at a 12-foot rock wall that proves to be the most difficult obstacle yet! Although not impossible this rock wall is by far the most vertical challenge encountered on this trail. Fortunately, immediately on the other side of this wall is the top of the Superstition Mountain and a large flat plateau (and trust me, after climbing for what seems like forever, the flat land will be something to rejoice over!) The large plateau area to the right of the trail is known as Flatiron, and provides thrilling views of the entire Superstition Wilderness and Phoenix Valley. Flatiron makes a perfect resting point, although I'd advice those with vertigo to stay away from the plateau's steep cliffs! After a well-deserved rest, it is time to retrace your steps down the mountain. Although not as physically exhausting, the route down requires careful footwork and can take considerable time. However, once arriving back at the waterfall and stone basin, the smooth, well-developed trail returns for a speedy exit. To view more pictures of the Siphon Draw Trail, click here.

Event
Wow, what a great hike Mike & Chip! Looks like you're the "Vibram Five Fingers" gang. My wife and I are putting on a Mud Run at our church on June 2nd so that is a different type of participation for us, as we both run but have never been race directors.
Then on June 16th there is a Pump n Run event in town where you have to bench your bodyweight (or a percentage of it, based on your age), and then run a 5k the next day. My target is to be at 195 lbs at weigh-in and 70% of that will be 135 lbs to lift. They take 30 seconds off your time for every rep. Should be fun! Donn |

Checking in
Hi everyone, sorry I have such a hard time getting on here daily. I will try to be better about it. Today I taught my crossfit class, its my own version of the crossfit, with a bit of zumba and body pump mixed in. My class was great super full and I felt like a million dollars. I'm doing great on my own weight. I'm at 120, and my measurements are 36-24-36 aprox. I'm in a 2/3 and feeling like a rock star. I still have like 15 lbs to go, wish me luck....
My personal life is good, i've been in a relationship for a while fairly new and we are living together now. Its going well. I'm happy and I feel I have finally stopped attracting bad guys, by being good to myself I think I have broken my old pattern of abusive men..... I'm fasting today and this is for my personal reasons so theres not much to write about in the way of food. I'm having a bit of a hard time with adrenal problems and serious anxiety attacks. I feel like I'm going to pass out at times. Please if anyone on here has suffered share with me how you got the panic attacks to stop. I quit the xanax last year and will not go back, it took 15 years to end that addiction. So for the most part life is great but the anxiety has to go. |

Emitra - I copied your post over to the mainstream - here -
Mastery MAINSTREAM and here is what I said - I was checking out the team spirit thread and saw this. I'm still not in control....no, rather I still haven't made peace with my emotions and anxiety so I don't have many suggestions. I'm throwing this out there to those that might. I do want to say that I found some things Tony Robbins said helpful (this is the first book in this category I've read, so the only one I ever talk about lol). He talks about emotions and how if you try to ignore them they will simply intensify until you do pay attention. The first is discomfort, The message - boredom, impatience, unease, distress, or mild embarassment are all sending you a signal that something is not quite right. Maybe the way you're perceiving things is off, or the action you're taking are not producing the results you want. I do know that anxiety is so much more than what he talks about. But that unease and distress he talks about I feel when I'm anxious. It has helped a little to simply stop and ask myself why I'm feeling anxious. I'm so used to trying to ignore the problem away.

Chip & Michael - that looks like a great workout and some awesome scenery!
We got out and did a family hike on Saturday. It only lasted 40 min and I wanted to go much much longer, the kids were ready to go. Sunday - I did 6.93 miles in 1:43 min. My phone says that is a 14:54 min/mi. I pushed myself so much harder than I ever have before. I took our dog....which made it interesting. He's a bit of a dork, nearly tripping me a couple of times and he didn't understand that both of us needed to go around poles and other things on the same side.
