I tried this for the 1st time tonight. To make it a little harder I added a little twist to it.
After a 5 minute warm up I started my one minute jog at 5.5mph and increased it .5 at every interval. I ended up running 9.0 for the last minute. Talk about a butt kicking workout, but incredibly I ran at a 9.0!!! Never would of believed it.... |

Hi, Life!! That's great that you started with the program! Man, you were running, though, huh? How are the rest of you runners doing? I've been MIA since my internet is off at home, but it should be restored tonight. I'm doing this on the sneak tip at work, but I'll be back later!
I still haven't got my run in since my last session which was day one of week five. I'm going to redo that run on Wednesday. Keep on running, folks!! Have a great Monday!

Hello, everyone! Stopping by to see how my fellow runners are doing. Hope you're all enjoying the program. I FINALLY ran today. I was pleasantly surprised that I was able to complete the first day of week five after not having run for a while. I'm having trouble syncing my ipod with the nike plus website, so I'll just list my data here. I hope to see more of you posting your progress. We can do it!!!
June 3, 2009 Time: 31min. and 40sec Pace: 14:25 min/mi Distance: 2.20 mi Calories: 313

I decided to start C25K over now that I have started a new challenge.
I made it to week 6, day 1, which I am really proud of. But I had started to get pain in my shins that wasn't going away, so I googled "shin splints" and found out that people with flat feet (like me) are more likely to get shin splints because they "overpronate." If I understand this right, it means that as I started running more, I broke down what was left of the cushioning in my shoes, which caused an uneven pull on my lower leg muscles. I don't have enough spring in my instep to keep my feet from rolling inward. So, I eased up on the running, and saved up to get some new shoes. I ran in them yesterday, and it felt great! I have increased my speed on the running portions from 4.2mph last time (yup, that's not a typo) to 5.5mph now. And this time I am going to take the time to really enjoy getting better at running. I plan on running in a 5K sometime this summer. Robin |

Cheers for Robin!!! Way to go with the new shoes. They do make a HUGE difference. I'm flat footed also, and I know exactly what you mean, girl!
Aly...I'm giddy for you! Week 4...you can do it! You brought to mind that old jam..."It's a groove thing, it's a groove thing, time to party down!" I think the Ohio Players sang it...but I'm not sure. Tomorrow, is day 2 of week 5 for me. I believe he said it consists of 2 eight minute runs, and two five minute walks. I'm a little nervous, but excited to see if I can do it! Day three on Sunday consists of a straight 20 minute run!!! Oh, my....! We shall see, eh? And I finally got my ipod to sync with the Nike+ website. Yay! I was afraid I was going to lose the data for that run. Have a great Thursday! Hugz, Ladeez!!

Oh my GOSH!!! I can see why we need to have meet ups... so much easier to talk LIVE. I Want to respond to EVERYONE in this thread, but I just don't have the time... lol.
LOVE the enthusiasm here! Because of this thread I am actually following C25K for the fist time ever... AND... STICKING TO IT! Those podcasts made all the difference for me. I actually even kinda like the funky music.... lol. I find myself in a meditative state and that's always a good thing for me to experience now and then.. lol. Last night my calves and my ankle got super tight after my run. I right away went to the roller.... IT WORKED. No pain after and today I am feelin' fine. Keep Runnin'!!!

OK, I keep hearing about this roller thing, and I couldnt' find it in the Denver Dream Team thread, so I finally e-mailed Mellie to find out what this is. I am so curious about it, it's actually kinda funny. With this 20 minute run coming up, I'm thinking I might need something like this! hahaha!
I'm so happy to hear that you're liking the podcasts, Janelle!! Yeah, that music kinda grows on you, eh? I'm anxious to hear about your progress. Watch out 5k races...here we come! A whole bunch of crazy transformers!!! ![]()

Ooooh, today is my two 8 minute runs!!! I'm nervous, yet anxious. I'm gonna try to get one of the kiddo's to video tape the 20 minute run on Sunday. That way ya'll can see how slow I'm actually "running." But as long as I'm still moving, right? Luv ya guys! I'll be back later tonight with my run stats! Let's do this thing, peeps!!! ~tunz of hugz

Hey all...I wanna jump in too!!! I have been doing C25K and I'm on week 6 tomorrow. I have been on week 5 for, like, 3 weeks now working on that 20 minute mind thing! This week I got to 12 minutes without stopping, so I'm just gonna move on to week 6 cause I'm getting bored with the same music! lol
You all are absolutely right...it is a MIND thing, not a physical thing at all. When I started 60 seconds was a big deal and now I'm running 8-10 minutes without stopping to walk at all. And doing multiple intervals to boot! So the 20 minutes isn't gonna stop me!!! Think about it...15 minutes is about a mile. WOOT! Keep up the great work all & I'll be thinking of you & checking back in! Great thread! Liz
