knees
I was doing leg extensions and felt grinding in both knees, I ended up going light because of this. Does anyone know what I can do to strengthen my quads? I'm hoping that will help my knees. They seem to be pretty weak, but I need my quads buffed up
![]() Thanks! |

Grinding qualifies as something you go see the doc about. If your knees aren't moving smoothly, it could be a wide range of possible conditions. Some are easy to treat, some not so much. All of them need to have attention paid to them. When joints do not move smoothly through the range of motion, that's a problem.
A lot of times people will bypass going to the doctor while doing a challenge. They don't want it to inter fear with their progress. I can promise you that an untreated joint injury will cause you far more problems in the long run. The only thing I would suggest right now is wall sits. They are isometric and will isolate out the quads nicely. And again, see the doc ASAP. ![]() |

Any updates on your knees?
My knees click on occasion, however they have been wonderful lately. This may sound strange, but I really visualize a healthy, healed body...Literally there is no reason for my knees to be in as great of shape that they are in...HUM, thanks for making me think! |

I have grinding and mine is called Patella Femoral syndrome. I have been told by my orthopedic surgeon no leg extensions unless I want to have knee replacement surgery earlier rather than later. Get thee to a doc and find out what is causing the grinding. For my particular knee problem it is hard to find exercises that allow me to work my quads. Wall sits are about it and some other physical therapy exercises. No leg extensions, squats or lunges for me.

Thanks so much for your help! I have noticed if my legs are warmed up, then the grinding isn't there? I will get it checked out! *hugs*

My one knee was making odd noises when I first started, and my doctor told me the best exercise to strengthen it was the bicycle. Worked on that for several weeks and the odd noises stopped - but a doctor would be the best to tell you if that's what's best for you, as it could be a different cause. Margaret

After I had surgery on both knees, my ortho doc told me to take glucosamine/chondrition. I just take the plain extra strength glucosamine/ chond.(no MSM make my joints hurt more) available at Costco. I also have read fish oil is good for joint lubrication and many other things. Cindy

Fish oils help so much for manythings including inflamation. I have been taking so many other supplements I stopped taking the glucosomine chondroitin but I am going to start again. There is alos a newer product on the market called Flex Now that has some compelling research. THey actually guarantee it will help you within 30 days of they will giveyou your money back. They don't guarantee it will work for 100% of folks but they will give your money back if it doesn't work foryou - Ilike that in a company

I am having some patella femoral pain myself. Yesterday I did the elliptical and it felt OK but I couldfeel something when I stepped down of the elliptical. Then I went for a swim and just doing the flipper motion when I kicked gave me some sharp pains in my left knee.
It feels fine today though. Old age - lol. Seems like every challenge I do one joint or another flairs up on me. |

for some reason the elliptical kills my knees, weird i know. mine have felt better, but lifting lower body this week I had to do WAy less weight and hardly any range of motion (quit the leg extension machine altogether). i started taking glucosamine a couple of days ago. hopefully, that will help.
I'm definitely going to try the bike. Hey Joe - I'm totally into positive visualization. I keep seeing me at the end and my quads back with healthy knees ![]() Thanks you guys! |
