Oh Kath...when I started I could only do about 20 minutes....that is the beauty of jumping...it is so cool to add those extra few minutes and just feel your endurance and strength building!

My daughter was on a competitive jump rope team for a few years at her school -- you should see the amazing tricks these kids can do! YouTube - USA Jump Rope All Star Team Several members of her team are on the Team USA!!!

Kathleen ~ Thanks so much my sweet friend for getting our JUMPING thread going! I just love the title!! I definitely need to Jump My Rump Off!!

This is going to be so much fun and I hope that we get lots of people involved in this one!!

Clarissa ~ Thanks a bunch for the tips. They are so helpful. How long can you jump for at a session? I definitely think that jumping and resting is the way to go for us beginners. It makes so much sense to not just jump right in and start jumping for a certain amout of time! Been there done that, I made a bet with a friend when I was in college that I could jump for 30 mins without stopping (tripping on the rope didn't count as stopping) I won, but couldn't walk without pain for a week!! Won't ever do that again!!

I believe in starting slow and gaining time each session. It will prevent the soreness, boredom and thoughts of "I CAN'T DO IT" out our minds.

Here's to gaining strength, endurance and awesome bodies!!

Welcome aboard Paul, Heather, AimeeD, Gracenpeace2u, CinAz and Mae. Looking forward to following all of your jumping stories and success!!

I think that we all should pick a song from our ipod that is fast and upbeat and share it with others, so that we have enough songs to last us 30 mins. That way when we can jump for that long we will have enough good music without having to change the song!!

I like "Show Me the Money" from StepUp!!

Happing Jumping all of you Jolly Jumpers!!

Heather.. how long have you been doing this and how often? Do you notice a difference in stamina and muscle tone from it?
I think since June. When I first started I could only go a minute then rest a minute. Now I usually go 3 minutes rest 1 minute. I have done 5 minutes but usually it is closer to 3. I'm going to strive for Clarissa's Boxer Rounds!

I have definitely noticed more stamina because I keep progressing on how much I can do.

Muscle tone? It's hard for me to know exactly where my muscle tone is coming from since I do so many different things.

It's addicting once you start! Lots of fun!!

after i got the rope shortened and put the rubber yoga mat there to jump on instead of plain concrete....wow! jumping is harder than running.

i tried with the rope a few times and then decided to try jumping and PRETENDING i have a rope turning just so i could see what doing it straight for a minute would be. wow.
i will be trying to up my time there.

seriously...that was definitely heart-thumping and oxygen gasping!!
i will work the rope into that jumping routine....but i am determined to conquer the thing.

I CAN DO THIS.

i liked Clarissa's tips....and thought of the young cocky boxer wannabes gettin handed a rope and told not to come back til they have mastered 12 rounds of jumping...woo. that would sandpaper some ego there!!

I WILL DO THIS...but will be starting slow and adding to it...i will increase my jumping time and enjoy this challenge for myself.

(and i WILL be wearing the absolutely NO BOUNCE bra when i do it...there was a bit more activity than when i run...)

Glad that you are joining us! This is gonna be super fun. Yup, get out there and get a jump rope. I agree that your 4 years old's isn't gonna work and he/she might not like you using it.

Make sure you read righlight's (Clarissa) tips. They are awesome!!

Happy Jumping Kaci!

Grace ~ Great job on getting the rope shortened and getting started. I would suggest to just start out like Clarissa said, with jumping for 30 secs and resting for 60 secs, doing this for as many times as you can. I think that we will benefit more from starting slow and then increasing our times as our bodies allow!!

LOL crack me up about the NO BOUNCE bra!! I don't have that prob, but feel for all of you that do.

Keep up the great work my friend!

Good Morning Jolly Jumpers

How is the jumping going? I have a funny story to share about my new jump ropes. I ordered two ~ a deluxe speed rope and a weighted rope. I went to try out the weighted rope really quick in the kitchen and all of a sudden our Irish Setter, Flash decides to walk right into the rope. OUCH, he got hit in the nose. I went over and rubbed his nose and told him sorry. Well this morning while trying to jump rope, he kept barking at me. He would come a little closer to me bark really loud and then back up and bark even louder. It was cracking me up. I had to stop jumping, because he was getting so worked up and also beacuse my son's had sleep overs last night and the kids were sleeping in the area close to where I was jumping!!

Overall I had a great time. I did 4 rounds of ~ jump for 30 seconds and rest for 60 seconds. I will work on increasing my time to 1 minute for next week. I think that I can do this now, but want to be careful of my knees. So slow is the way to go!! Progress not Perfection!! However, I am striving for PERFECTION!

SO how did all of you do yesterday? Keep posting and jumping my friends!!
