Breathing problems ,and living with them
OK i have had Asthma since I was about 16. I think having it, and not being on the right medication for the longest time have brought me to the current state that I I'm in. So my question to any one that does have Asthma, how are you getting you lungs back into shape. I can run on the treadmill but not for that long. After about 10 min, or so it becomes hard to breath. So i do most my cardio on the eliptical. The low in pact seems to have less strain on my lungs. So what can I do to get them back into shape.

I used to have a lot of trouble with my asthma but treatment with an Advair inhaler and Singulair have helped a lot. A key factor was the treatment of the underlying allergies that triggered so much of the asthma problems.
If you aren't already, I suggest seeing an asthma/allergy specialist. |

I use my Albuterol inhaler just before working out . That seems to help even if I'm not wheezing.
It's kind of a balancing act, knowing how much exercise to do. Exercise has definitely helped increase my lung capacity and improve my asthma over time. I would think that if you are having symptoms - any wheezing at all - to avoid the high-intensity BFL-style efforts and keep them more moderate. My doctor has said that when the bronchial tubes are inflamed, exercise can make it worse. |
