Supplements

If I am on a tight money budget, what minimal supplements would you recommend? First I am working at losing fat, gaining muscle tone and later more at gaining strength and size.

Well, for me in the beginning was tight and still is but what I did was I followed the EFL to a T, then I incorporate some cardio and strength training, I also take a multivitamin. You can contact Coach Stoney and he can send you a few samples of the Right shakes. After about 2 -3 months I noticed some changes in my body, it takes a lot of determination and an intense desire to succeed and the faith to see it through. I'm eating 6 nutritious meals daily and at times I may throw in a Protein shake. But usually I try my best to stick to meals instead of shakes, for instance cottage cheese and fresh fruit would be my midmeals. You can contact, RightLight, CoachBrad,Coach Stoney, GloomRaider, or Dianne Orwig and they may be able to help you more.

If I had to choose just one supplement, it would be pure whey protein. Sometimes it's hard for me to get in enough protein just eating "real" food, and either meal replacement shakes or whey protein makes a fantastic "grab-n-go" meal. Check out Vitamins, Sports Supplements and Nutritional Supplements at Discounted Prices or Home at DPS Nutrition - The Nation's leader in Discount Nutrition for great prices on supplements.

I personally think you can get your proteins from whole foods, so why invest in that as a supplement - instead, focus on what you're not getting, and that's the right amount of vitamins and minerals. I would say the most important supplement is a quality multivitamin - even if you are eating healthy and plenty of fruits and vegetables, you are still not getting the optimal amounts for health. Most doctors who used to say "if you eat healthy, you don't need a multivitamin" have revised that to say every active adult, even those who eat healthy, need a quality multivitamin to cover their bases.

After the multivitamin, then it's making sure you get plenty of healthy fats (if you eat cold water fish, etc, more power to you, if you're not a major seafood fan like me, then fish oil capsules help).

Finally, the protein bars/shakes make sense if you need something convenient for on the go or on the run. I've found that really if you invest the time over the weekend to prepare your meals, you can create grab and go natural foods for throughout the week.

I drink shakes myself and use them like anyone else as a convenience item, so I'm not against them, but if I had to choose only one supplement based on what I've learned as a specialist in performance nutrition, have researched, and have witnessed personally through many transformations, it would be the multivitamin.

My first question is do you currently take any sort of multi vitamin? If not that would be a great place to start. Next, what does your daily meal plan look like? Are you getting in all your protein and carb containing meals okay?

The two things that best support a quality fitness program are a quality multi vitamin and a good meal replacement product. One of the biggest challenges for all of us is getting meals in. Especially starting out, the prospect of 6 meals can be daunting. Meal replacements take out some of the guess work and provide backup for life's little oopses.

More advanced supplements can wait until you have 12 weeks of solid fundementals down. My suggestion is make a fitness budget. Save money each week towards fitness. You can use that for supplements or use it to reward yourself with a fitness goodie! Don't forget that this is supposed to be fun!
