Encouragement

Hey Tranformation Family!

Can you imagine being given a name that means son [or daughter] of encouragment? Well that is exactly what the apostles did in Acts 4 when they gave Joseph his new name, Barnabas.

His entire identity was wrapped up in his ability to fill others with courage.

I am sure of this...I would have wanted to be around Barnabas! And he was not using flattery just to be popular; he was using the power of God's Word to bring real hope in times of great trial and suffering.

This is not the power of positive thinking, this is the power of God's spoken Word!

So today I encourage you. Will you be a son or daughter of ENCOURAGMENT? Lift someone up, tell them you believe in them, and breathe life and hope into the lives of your family, friends and neighbors.

IN HIM,
BRAD

Little Brother, my mind is reverting back to our childhood right about now. You were knee high to a grasshopper, standing on the fireplace hearth imitating a preacher(Uncle J.C. to be specific) in the pulpit. lol! Barnabas had a true gift, just like you! I am thanking God for you today and always. Keep spreading God's word. I am also singing the song, "THIS LITTLE LIGHT OF MINE, I'M GONNA LET IT SHINE".

Love you bunches,
Kim : )

Mona, thanks so much for the comments. You know i remember when we all used to sit in the living room listening to Dad teach us things out of the Bible. Its funny back then i used to sit there and get tired and bored listening to him, but now looking back i would give anything for us to all to be in that living room, learning and studying the Bible like we did then. Although I felt that way then, you know it all stuck with me and i am so thankful for my Dad for doing that. I will do the same to my kids, and hope they pass it on as well!!! Love Ya sister!!!

Great encouragement Brad. To be authentically encouraging - for the benefit of others (not flattery which is self-serving).

Barnabas, son of Encouragement.....what a gift down through history you have been, a record of your spirit has been preserved for us to learn of you....what an example for us living today.....Let us encourage one another....and yes, I will gladly be given the name daughter of Encouragement,....by the Creator of Encouragement! May He transform all those who come to HIM for this new name, as He has promised to equip us, to live godly in HIM!! Encouragement is a part of HIS plan, and we can be transformed into HIS image.....! Barnabas....thanks for being faithful to HIM!

Brad,
There is a book called "The Tower: A Story of Humility" by Richard Paul Evans.
I read this picture book to my fifth graders every year-and here is my favorite line:

"To be great is not to be higher than another, but to lift another higher."

I have found the wonderful thing about lifting another higher, is that it makes ME feel great!
Isn't it amazing how God moves in us this way?

If you have not read Mike Harris' blog for today on the BFL site, please do...it's about just this very thing...reciprocation.
