Black Horse? or Cherry Tree?
THE CHOICE - Black Horse? or Cherry Tree?
CHOICE - WHY I WROTE THIS AND CAN'T STOP THINKING ABOUT THIS SONG I heard this song while working out and loved the beat. Great for level 10's!!! But... I couldn't stop thinking about it. Whenever this happens to me I pay attention. Why??? This transformation is coloring my world bright again, and big and wonderful. Over years, I got smaller and less bright, giving in to sickness and pain, becoming small, not only in the world, but in my world. Not shiny. Not bright. Not fulfilled or filled full. SONG LYRICS - Black Horse and the Cherry Tree - KT Tunstall - Eye to the Telescope My heart knows me better than I know myself . So I'm gonna let it do all the talking . I came across a place in the middle of nowhere . With a big black horse and a cherry tree ... I felt a little fear upon my back . I said don't look back just keep on walking . But the big black horse said look this way . He said 'hey lady will you marry me? ... But I said no no . You're not the one for me ... My heart hit a problem in the early hours . So I stopped it dead for a beat or two . But I cut some cord and I shouldn't have done it . And it won't forgive me after all these years ... So I went to a place in the middle of nowhere . With a big black horse and a cherry tree . But it won't come back coz it's oh so happy . And now I've got a hole for the world to see ... It said no no . You're not the one for me ... Big black horse and a cherry tree . I can't quite get there coz my heart's forsaken me. This song talks about a place in the middle of nowhere with a cherry tree and a big black horse. What???? What does that mean? THE CHERRY TREE - HIGHER SELF'S DESIRE - For me, the cherry tree is the heart's and soul's deepest, sweetest desires. The word "desire" means, literally, "of the father", (de meaning "of the", sire meaning "father"). Hence, the desire's of the higher self. Desires, the purest, sweetest kind, from the father and our higher self. To do more. To contribute more. To be and become more. THE BIG BLACK HORSE - LOWER SELF'S DESIRE - The big black horse, to me, represents our lower self. Lower desires. Temptations for the five passions - lust (for excess - food, addictions, sex, etc.), greed, anger, attachment and pride/ego. That big black horse asked the lady to marry him. Hey lady, come marry me (marriage meaning bind yourself to me) and live with me and indulge, or over indulge in anything you choose. It's fun. It's easy. Come on. THE CHOICE - That big black horse represents the choice at the heart of this transformation. Do we take the easy road? Do we give upwards to the higher self (see my blog on the meaning of true surrender) or do we give in to the base desires of the lower self? That big black horse sits next to the cherry tree waiting to take the heart back to the lower desires any time the heart chooses. The heart - oh, what a lovely thing a heart is! - waits with the cherry tree. It waits with all the lovely, pure, higher self desires. When the lady (the self) hesitated on this choice in the early hours and stopped her heart dead for a beat or two, she lost it. It waits for her, in the cherry tree, until she can find her way back and claim it again as her own. When the self chooses the higher desires, (desires that lead to fulfillment and integrity and wholeness and oneness) its effort leads to grace. The effort IS the grace. The effort and journey IS the fulfillment of our heart's desires, in any area of our lives. Bill writes this somewhere, I'm paraphrasing, when he said he would never HAND OVER the results of this transformation process to anyone. That would take away the best part. The grace and fulfillment that comes with full effort. So, Since this song, I've been looking at my choices and asking - Big Black Horse??? or Cherry Tree??? Dang - I want that cherry tree!!!! Sending goodnes and love to all my friends, today, on this lovely transformational journey.... Deb Last edited by creatinggoodness : 08-30-2008 at 07:40 AM. Reason: added paragraph spacing |

Music has such power!
I love your insights, and the song may forever hold special meaning for you. I blogged about something music did to me today; it made me cry! Good, happy tears, though. Such power! |

Wow, I must have listened to that song a 100 times since it is one of my favorites (big KT Fan). I knew it was deep but I was never able to figue it out, I mean I had lots of ideas but symbolism I struggle a bit with.
I like your thoughts on this song. Thanks for sharing. |
