after workout meals

I read that Bill said no eating before cardio in the a.m., but how long after do you eat your first meal?
On the flipside, are you supposed to eat before you lift? And I believe I read that you need some protein after you lift, w/in the hour after your workout?
I'm a female who is working on dropping weight.
Thanks! Just getting started and want to start right, thanks for any help you can give me!

I found the answers on the forums! ya!

Eat one hour after cardio.
Eat right after lifting, preferably a shake.

When Bodyforlife came out and in muscle media it was recommended to workout first thing in the morning on an empty stomach and wait one hour after the workout is over to eat these days the research has moved on and its scientifically proven its best to eat specifically high glycemic carbs with your protein just before during and sfter working out because your body deals with Hign Glycemic carbs better around these times. In saying that though if you want to stick with working out on an empty stomach and waiting 1 hour to eat you will still get great results the most important thing is to eat healthy and workout hard whenever that may be and be consistent

Sounds like they covered it pretty well! We don't eat prior to working out on either day and eat immediately after both workouts (due to our jobs.) Like Mark says just do the 6 light meals and workout hard no matter what exercise day it is and DRINK plenty of water! (this is the hardest for me.) Have fun with it. Mike

I never eat before working out and don't eat for up to 2 hours after my workout (both cardio and weights)and I've seen great results.

i dont eat before cardio. . and wait at least 30-45 minutes before having a post workout shake.

Weight training days... i have something small to start. or i find myself feeling very week and nauseous half way through the workout. i then eat on schedule . (2.5 to 3 hours after my previous meal.. ) and that's a post workout shake. all my vitamins and such.

It works for me. My schedule just doesn't really accomodate a meal that soon after my workout. If for any reason I'm just RAVENOUS!! I grab a shake or bar, but otherwise... I eat later.

Anytime you can get your cardio in is awesome! However, over an 18 week period you WILL burn significantly more fat if you do cardio in the morning on an empty stomach and wait 45 minutes to an hour to eat. Don't worry about that too much though because the important thing is that you DO IT!

I also weight train on an empty stomach, first thing in the morning. However, right after I am finished, I drink a serving of creatine mixed with 20-30 gms of Bill's + protein. Then I shower and eat breakfast which is about 45-60 minutes later.

You will do just fine if you just "do it"! Conrats on taking control of your life and being kind to yourself!!!!!!!! I think you are going to to exceptional!!!!!!

I'm not saying it doesn't work for you, but waiting 2 hours after exercise will not burn any more body fat than waiting 1 hour. If it works for you, then thats fine, I just didn't want someone to think that they would lose more body fat by waiting an extra hour or more to eat.

I get that. I think it's good for folks to know that the process is really pretty flexible and you don't have to stick to really strict schedule to get results. Although what might work for one, may not work for others. I feel like everyone can find a schedule that will be comfortable for them and attain results.

Since My Cardio is REALLY intense for me, ( 10.0 mph Interval sprints) on the TM, I always HAVE to be on an empty stomach or it would just be " ugly" lol.....

It's about 15-20 with traffic home from the gym, I come in, have a cup of coffee, then I eat a light meal. Shower, and eat again in a 2 hour window, more substantial.

weight training days: I eat otameal with wheat germ and skim milk and a cup of coffee, then head to the gym and lift. I consume a protein shake ( full MRP) post workout, packed in my cooler. I have even taken unflavored protein powder and mixed it in Vitamin Water post workout. Go Home, shower, and eat again in that 2 hour window. It's all about finding what works for You specifically, and how your body responds to your eating and training. This is what works for me, and I have shrunk so many sizes and inches it's insane....LOL.
