ideas for breakfast??
Ok I am just starting this program and I wanted to plan my meals. I am having a hard time thinking I am going to have eggs for breakfast everyday. Or cottage cheese. I can have oatmeal but need a protein. What can I have with it? Any ideas would be great. I am really excited about this and can't wait to start feeling great and seeing results.

Oatmeal with a scoop of chocolate whey protien does the trick for me. Cook the oatmeal first though and then add the scoop after its cooked and stir it up.
Other good ideas are a meal replacement shakes like right light. My favorite recipe for that is vanilla right with 8oz milk and 4 whole frozen strawberries. I use the milk because right light doesn't come with a lot of calories but some people use water instead of milk if they are more concerned with the calories. |

For a quick and simple meal I sometimes eat a cup of no-fat yogurt with a few strawberries or blueberries in it. And it almost taste too good to be fat free. Although some may have too many grams of sugar added--check the label.

See that's where i get confused - is Yogurt protein or carb? I read somewhere else on this site that 1/2 cup cottage chees and a pot of lite yogurt is a carb and a protein? If yogurt is a protein that's fantastic for me...being veggie I am finding it really hard to find enough protein for 6 meals a day. Thanks for the thread Jo ... just what I needed!!

The no/low-fat yogurt I've seen has between 5 to 10 grams of protien and about three times as much carbs. I hear some folks add cottage cheese to get more protien. I haven't tried it that way yet. |

I think you need to get Eating for Life, if you haven't already. It would be WELL worth the investment, I promise you. Go to your local Borders if you can't wait to get it online I have seen it as low as $22 on Amazon.com). There are LOTS of meal ideas. Start off sticking with them. Fat-free cottage cheese has about 14 grams protien and 6 grams carbs (It might vary slightly with your brand, but....). Yogurt usually has SOME protien. Just look at the contents and try to keep it roughly 50-50. I keep the fats inconsequential. There are almost always some, but they don't amout to much at all.
The pancakes are great too. I had them yesterday. Today I had the Breakfast Du Jour. Tommorrow, something else. Switch it up. There are plenty of meals in there to keep one satisfied, and BELIEVE me, I am a picky eater. Stick to what's in the book, you can venture away and get your nutrients later once you've got the hang of it. |

I am using one shake a day - and then using cottage cheese, hummus, egg, tofu, beans and lentals for the others - which causes me the carb confusion - as hummus beans and lentals are all high in carbs as well.

Beans are carbs so watch out. Hummus too!! Of course for a vegan, they are protein, but you have to throw all that thinking out for BFL. If you view the authorized food list on BFL it will clear things up for you. Yogurt is also a carb- but add cottage cheese to it or a scoop of whey protein powder and it becomes a protein with a carb. Shakes, eggs and cottage cheese are your best sources as a vegatarian- obviously you eat dairy. That helps. . I have a friend who is a raw foodist and competing in a bodybuilding contest as a project to see if it can be done. Now that is some difficult task!!

oooooooooooooooh mmm mmm mmm
I have a very simple menu and it doesn t change except for dinner. I really thought I would be sick of eggs by now but I crave it. My breakfast EVERYDAY is a RIght with 1 scoop protein powder. Midmeal is oatmeal and 2 hard boiled eggs w a little salt and pepper (ditching the salt this week) I also like cottage/yogurt From the EFL book I love the eggs Florentine. Hope that helps Dude |

Just like Dude I'm going through the eggs.
One of my favorite ways to make eggs is to separate and toss the yolks in the trash—although, I think my dog would enjoy them. I use three egg whites mixing in about 1/2 tablespoon of reduced fat cheddar. I then fry them flat like an omelet in a skillet with non-stick canola oil spray. When they are done I add a tablespoon of salsa, fold it in half and eat. I’d probably get sick of them if it were not for the extra flavor of the cheddar and salsa. I like to experment in the kitchen so I'm hoping to come up with something new for a change in taste and texture. Enjoy! Brian |

Cottage cheese and Oatmeal is a good mix. Add a dash of cinamon and you are off to a healthy start (1:1 ration cottage cheese LF/Cooked Oatmeal). I also love the EFL Pancakes, they are fast, easy and tasty!

My favorite breakfasts are either oatmeal/vanilla protein powder/blueberries/walnuts or milk/vanilla protein powder/Kashi Go Lean/Fiber One. I don't have much time to cook in the morning while trying to get the kiddos off to school, so these are done in a jiffy.

My very favorite breakfast is:
Nuke a small portion of FROZEN strawberries and blueberries. Add 1/2 C. FF Cottage Cheese, 1/2 C. Activia LF Vanilla Yogurt and top with 1/8 C. (just a sprinkle) of Bear Naked "Protein" Granola. OMGoodness. Keeps me going all morning. |
