Splenda?

I am a little puzzled this evening - This afternoon I started getting red spots on my face. They are a little itchy but not too bad. The only ting I had to day that I don't eat on a regular basis was lentils and a small amount of splenda with my oatmeal. Seems like I have had Splenda before but don't recall these spots.

Anyone else ever have a reaction to splenda?

My wife uses it and I do occasionally.

Never noticed any spots.

Kathy,

I use splenda quite frequently and haven't had any issues. However...if you think you ARE having a reaction to splenda then do some research on it and see if the spots are a known side affect.

I'd be lost without my splenda for sure so I'm glad I'm not having issues with it.

Kathy -
I used Splenda for the first time a year ago (in an protein drink) and I immediately started getting headaches. However, my mom and sister both tolerate it very well. I think everyone reacts differently. Here's some info you might want to read.

Sugar substitutes and the potential danger of Splenda

I am A FIRM BELIEVER in no "artificial" anything is a good thing! I have not touched an artificial sweetener since 1997, when I gave them up to treat my MS. When Splenda came out, there were soooo many people saying "oh it's made from sugar... it should be OK." I personally do not trust it. Here is very recent study by Duke University. CLICKY
Also, food mfg's do not have to label that "Splenda" or sucralose is in the product. If you are sensitive to it, you must read labels. You would be amazed at how many prepackaged foods have it in it, gum, some protein powders, etc. I have to read EVERYTHING!

I too avoid sugar substitutes. Although sugar substitutes give that sweet taste with fewer calories, it enables the need for more sweets. The brain does not decipher artificial sweeteners from natural sugar. A small amount of natural sugar (honey, raw cane sugar, Stevia, etc) is more satisfying than artificially manufactured sweeteners.

Kathy - I LOVE your new picture!

Re splenda: I occasionally will use it, but I prefer stevia. I have never had a bad reaction.

I've had red itchy pimple / spots from time to time and my diet hardly changes.
I just figured that some small "something" was trapped in fat or a cell in my body.
When I broke down the fat, the "something" was released.
Part of the detox of cells is the way I understand it to be.
We all are different, so if you are really concerned visit a dermatologist.

As for the Splenda, I avoid it like the plague.
Any of the artificial stuff is a concern for me.

Natural Local Honey, Grade B Maple Syrup or Organic Sugar for me
(if I use it at all, which is rare).
All good in moderation.
I even use Organic Butter if a recipe calls for butter.
To me, Margarine is on molecule away from being plastic.
