Transformation Lesson #4
The Power of Purpose:
If I look at the reasons behind the "why" of getting to my optimum shape, the driving force is that I know with a stronger & healthier body, I will love myself even more and therefore can "give more" to others. First & foremost this is for my wife & kids and then for my extended family and friends. Third and a big transformation goal is more connections with others. When I feel better & have more energy, all other areas of my life can benefit. I also want to use this health to experience more in life. To climb, swim, paddle, hike, bike, ski & more to truly experience the passions I enjoy in life to the fullest. A stronger body makes this possible. A guiding purpose would be to share & introduce these outdoor passions to others.
Along with health, a driving sense of purpose is to be better husband to my wife. She has been so supportive of me and always encourages me to pursue my goals. I, at times, can take things for granted too much. A part of my purpose is give more to the relationship. We both are already greatful for what we have so we have a great starting point. There is a strong sense of purpose in being that loving husband for life.
Another driving sense of purpose is being a loving & guiding father to my 2 boys. I am spoiled beyond words to have such amazing kids. Every day they bring laughter, joy and a sense of innocence to our household. I need to spend even more time with them in being a guide, teacher & friend as they grow up to be adults. I want to show them a healthy role model and be there for them fully. How can I do this if I am not exercising, eating poorly. Is that kind of role model I want them to follow. NOT! I also want to show them the beauty of Gods creations. Kids get so trapped into gaming, tv, electronics. I will get them outside and experience this beauty and realize there is so much more to the world than gadgets & gaming.
A strong sense of purpose comes from simply making a positive difference in someone elses day. I have a tremendous opportunity to do this.. everyday. I especially can feel this sense of purpose in my work. I can help my customers become more successful while giving them a sense of purpose and more fulfillment in their lives. I have to stop doubting myself and know I truly can make that difference. I also need to do this more in simple encounters with others and not live in my own world. A driving force will include increasing my knowledge and ability to coach people through the process they are looking for. I know this is possible and has huge potential & is a win-win.
On the spiritual side, I used to have a better connection with God (or higher power). I still often turn over my day each morning but there is definitely more of a disconnect over past years. My purpose has much more meaning when I do Gods will & not just be self-absorbed with myself.
These are the driving forces that lead to my Purpose with Passion in life. I absolutely know I can do all these things by taking action and having it as a daily core belief. Exercise is simply part of the fuel that helps drive it.
My purpose involves these many facets: Health, husband, father, friend, spiritual, connecting more with others and making a positive difference in others lives. This will be my daily list I'll look at each day - what am I doing today & everyday to focus on those areas with intended purpose. All thoughts & actions will be driven from there. Sounds exciting!!
