Day 12 of Marathon Training ~~ Finally feeling like a runner!

Wow!  What a great run I just had!

I did 2.6 miles and almost all of it was running!  I told my "coach" the other day that I just couldn't seem to run much more than .25 mile intervals and then I was forced to walk.  I put on the heart rate monitor the other day and told him what my heart rate was doing.  The walk intervals were necessary because my heart rate was getting so high.  I was running at an 8 min. pace based on trying to keep my cadence at 90 bpm according to the Chi Running method.  He thought I was pushing too hard and told me to try running super slow...almost like I was running in place...that's where I want to be right now.  He wanted me to shoot for 12 minute miles and forget about the cadence for right now.

Soooo...I did that today.  I felt a little ridiculous but I did a MUCH better job at keeping my heart rate in check.  I feel like I'm breaking down barriers and defeating my limiting belief "I'm never going to be a runner because of my Asthma".  I felt great and really felt like a runner today!  I could have gone another lap and done 3.9 miles but I had my kids along on their bikes and they were fighting and getting tired and lagging behind.  Tomorrow I'm shooting for 3.9 miles and leaving them at home ...they were disturbing my chi anyway! lol

Kids alone are tiring . . . but worth it. Good luck on your runs. Hope your weekend was all you wanted it to be. Wishing you the best for the week. MIm in Chapleau

Yeah, leave those chi disturbing children behind. ;) You are doing great!

I've had the same problem, trying to really "sprint" rather than just find my own pace that I can maintain! You're doing great though, it's such a good feeling, isn't it?
