An Update

Well, obviously I did not follow through to this point.  Today should mark the beginning of the ninth week of my 2010 Challenge, but I haven't blogged or done any serious tracking in about six weeks.  I'm still eating reasonably well, though not as cleanly as I should and definitely not as well-planned as I would need to to meet my Challenge goals.  My weight is holding fairly steady at around 190lbs which is up from my low of 182....

Daily Accountability - Week 3 Day 17 (01/27/10)

Journal: Brutal. Yesterday was just brutal from a food standpoint.  I was fine until the workout.  I came back from the gym with such a fire in my belly that I just started snacking and didn't stop.  I paid the price this morning too, up three pounds.  So, I get back up and I move forward.  It's disappointing, but I've been here before and I know what to do. I'm paying the price this morning too for the workout yeste...

Daily Accountability - Week 3 Day 16 (01/26/10)

Journal: Low energy today.  I'm pretty sore from yesterday's run, especially in the hips.  Not the best dinner last night, but I went to get my Mug Club membership at Granite City and it happened to be the same night as their Mug Club party, so I had a tall one with some of their free food for dinner.  Still made good progress though, down three pounds heading into my third week.  Looking forward to a good UBWO today afte...

Daily Accountability - Week 3 Day 15 (01/25/10)

Journal: Man, does it ever feel good to run! After successful runs Monday, Wednesday and Thursday last week, I went out again early Saturday afternoon and was rewarded with a really great six mile run, bringing my total to just over 20 miles for the week.  I believe that's the longest weekly distance yet, and it was done in four runs instead of three (which is how I need to do it).  My wife and I have signed up for a 5K in April al...

Daily Accountability - Week 2 Day 12 (01/22/10)

Journal: Bad, Phil.  BAD!  I actually did well with the eating last weekend, but I let the schedule craziness derail me on progress with journaling and getting the assignments caught up.  All this week I kept avoiding getting on T.com because I knew I had all this catch up to do.  Well, I'm manning up now and getting back on board. This week was very encouraging from the standpoint of being able to run again.  Monday ...

Daily Accountability - Week 1 Day 5 (01/15/10)

Journal: Still disappointed with the running problem yesterday, but liking the feeling of that lingering soreness in the upper body that reminds me of the great workout I had yesterday! Heading into the weekend now, and that's always the most difficult time.  I have a lot of stuff to do this weekend though, and that usually lends itself to staying away from the snacks so hopefully it won't be too bad.  Metrics:Current Weight: ...

Daily Accountability - Week 1 Day 4 (01/14/10)

Journal: Didn't have the best of days yesteray, but bounced back really strong today.  Had a great UBWO at lunch, though the running issues at the end kinda put a downer on it.  Eating has been pretty solid today as well.  Metrics:Current Weight: 191.0 Starting Weight: 190.5Food (5-6 reasonably portioned meals):Two eggs on whole wheat w/ham, light mayo and slice of cheese (wife made for me)FF Cottage Cheese, orangeTurkey ...

Daily Accountability - Week 1 Day 3 (01/13/10)

Journal: Not being able to run is really frustrating. It is my best, most efficient way of burning calories, not to mention my most enjoyable way to exercise.  I really, REALLY hope I can start running again soon.Metrics:Current Weight: 191.0 Starting Weight: 190.5Food (5-6 reasonably portioned meals):Two eggs on whole wheat w/ham, light mayo and light sprinkle of cheeseCan of CokeTurkey on wheat, small bowl of chicken & rice s...

Daily Accountability - Week 1 Day 2 (01/12/10)

Journal: Woohoo...one day, one pound! I actually did a really good job with the food yesterday...much better than I thought I would.  Getting off to a good start always helps.  Just for fun, I went back and read through the first day of my first challenge. I didn't write as much then, but it's fun to see some of the differences in mindset.I'm a little sore today from yesterday's cardio, mainly because of the steep incline on the el...

Daily Accountability - Week 1 Day 1 (01/11/10)

Journal: Here we go!  I need to work today on completing Assignment One and getting the ball rolling.  I'm going to try the elliptical at the fitness center today to see how my knee handles it, and I will probably call and make an appointment with the doctor to get the knee checked out.  As per usual, I'll update this post throughout the dayMetrics:Current Weight: 190.5 Starting Weight: 190.5Food (5-6 reasonably port...

My Knee

OK, this is really not cool.  Several times over the last couple days I've had this pain return in my knee, and whereas it felt like a muscle pull initially it now feels more like a ligament...specifically the LCL.  I'm going to give it the weekend to see how it feels, and if things don't improve by Monday I'll make an appointment to see the appropriate physician.  Hopefully it's nothing more than a stretched/strained LCL and ...

Changes That Last

Had a great conversation with my wife last night about a lot of things.  We've overcome a lot of adversity in the past two years, and it was really great to see that some of the changes I've made have endured.  We are so much more open and honest with each other, and so much more in tune; we work together as a team now.  I'm looking forward to further enriching our marriage relationship in the coming year. As predicted, my upp...

Ramping Up

I've decided to officially start my next challenge on Monday January 11, so I'm working this week to transition back into the more regimented routine.  The great thing is that I'm really not making too much of a change...certainly not as drastic as it was last year.  There are some bad eating habits that have crept back in, but again not naerly as bad as I was when I first started out.Figuring out my goals is going to be a little ...

What a Difference a Year Makes!

Getting ready to tackle a new Transformation Challenge as this new year dawns, I was just thinking about all that's happened this past year and the differences between my mindset and state right now versus a year ago.  One thing that just struck me was the difference in gifts (both birthday and Christmas)!Last year, I distinctly remember getting gift cards for my birthday...specifically, gift cards to McDonalds and a few other restaurants.&n...

Returning to the Fold

The Holiday Challenge didn't happen for me.  I recognized the need for it, but instead chose to give my time and efforts to other things.  The result was unfortunately some weight gain and unhealthy eating, but I guess sometimes you have to fall to remind yourself that you were making changes for clear reasons.  I am still so much healthier than I was at this time last year.  I'm still about 25 pounds lighter, I'm running agai...

Daily Accountability - 11/6/09 (HHC Day 5)

Daily ReflectionBah.  Yesterday was a brief step backwards, but nothing I can change about it now...I can only move forward.  My eating wasn't the best, and I missed my workout for various reasons.  Today I am reinvigorated though.  Apart from a little caramel corn snack I've eaten very well today.  Tonight is the traditional pizza/movie night, so I'll need to make sure I don't go overboard.  I made up some turkey bu...

Daily Accountability - 11/4/09 (HHC Day 3)

Daily ReflectionCould not have picked a better time to start this than the week after Halloween.  There is candy temptation EVERYWHERE and so far I'm not doing all that well.  It's time to go about the work of eliminating that temptation by avoiding opportunities to fail, and that means removing it from easy access (like the giant candy dish ten feet from my desk in clear view).  I stepped on the scale this morning, and although I'...

Daily Accountability - 11/3/09 (HHC Day 2)

Daily ReflectionI feel so invigorated today, and it has nothing to do with the diet or exercise.  I've not changed much of anything in that respect (except my resolve to be more diligent), but I feel so much more positive about the coming weeks. Can't wait to see what today brings.  I'm heading back to the gym for the first time in about six weeks, so I anticipate some serious soreness tomorrow :) ExerciseUBWO today at lunchWell, i...

Daily Accountability - 11/02/09 (HHC Day 1)

Daily ReflectionI prayed today specifically that I not fall into the typcial Monday trap of irritation and negativity. Work has been particularly stressful of late and I've found myself contributing to the overall negativity in our office.  I was determined not to do that today, so when my boss got on my case to do something I have voiced my disagreement with several times over, I felt myself wanting to react negatively but chose instead to ...
