At Mighty Marty’s suggestion I scheduled time with a Chi Running Coach located here in Tucson.  This morning Sandy and I enjoyed a 2.5 hour private lesson with our Chi coach about the finer points of chirunning.

I Am

. . . 54 and learned at a fairly early age I’d have to work at keeping a healthy body weight. Over the years I've commented to others I could more easily be a “jolly fat man” and I'm sure they don’t fully understand. At the age of 19 I lost 70 pounds on the Atkins diet (back then that changed my life forever). When I was 70 pounds overweight I was always hungry, didn't have energy to exercise, and had a firm belief I would always be heavy and hungry. After that I lived the Atkins food lifestyle for more than 10 years but eventually I had 20 extra pounds to lose again. When I tried Atkins this time it made me feel sick; so instead I lost 20 pounds doing “Fit For Life” utilizing "food combining" and exercise. Over my lifetime it has been a battle as well as a road to greater knowledge and gradually living a more and more active and healthy lifestyle. Despite becoming a hardcore runner and running my first marathon in 1994; by 2004 I had the same extra 20 pounds again around my waist when I decided to do BFL by successfully completing that challenge (thank you Bill for being there at that time). Recently I did a 4-week “Hcg Diet” to target the same 20 pounds of fat that had again showed up around my waist (noticeably harder to lose fat around my waist the older I get). Harnessing the energy from my successful 20 lb Hcg weight loss I’m now ready for Bill's Transformation Challenge. Lets get going! Most people who know me don't know I’ve struggled so much with my weight, but that's only because I've been fighting it (with at least some degree of success) nearly all my life.

My Favorite Charity

I need more time to answer this one; taking a look at MAWF now and it looks pretty good. I'll revisit this question again when I'm ready.

To me, Transformation Means

This time my Transformation is about changing on the inside. Sure, I want to gain strength and improve my body composition and personal appearance, but I want and need to change on the inside. Because I’ve been a student and teacher of A Course In Miracles ACIM for nearly 30 years, at first I mistakenly believed “changing on the inside” didn’t apply to me. Let me explain, for some of us ACIM is the ultimate spiritual path that challenges and changes us throughout our entire lives; it’s about “forgiveness” and returning our “minds” to the Peace of God. Make no mistake, ACIM has lead me to a place of great peace and contentment (initially I could never have imagined was possible). In fact, I’m certain all the lessons the ACIM path has provided would allow me to be the most peaceful and enlightened “jolly fat man” (and as a result touch many people with God’s Love in that body). But I also know I have yet to complete my struggle and lessons to maintain a healthy body; and my next lesson here (if I’m successful) should be shared as an example to help and encourage others who cross my path. So it may not be about changing on the inside in a spiritual sense, but it is about changing internal habits and thoughts that prevent me from being the best I can be in all facets of my life.

My Goals

As far as my body is concerned; my weight is currently 186 (6'1") and I'm comfortable letting my weight be what it's going to be. I want to reduce my body fat and add new lean muscle mass (I still can't find my digital calipers I used when I did BFL the first time to know where I'm at %bf; did I mention I want and need to become more organized). How about 195 lbs, 10% BF, 175 lbs lean mass. Because I am self employed and run two small businesses, I want to expand and grow my existing businesses and touch more people wanting to live an active and healthy lifestyle. This will require becoming better organized and more disciplined with business book keeping and personal time management (and include reducing the clutter in my home and office and generally becoming more organized, disciplined and successful everyday).

My Intentions

Borrowed from Bill's profile: help transform America from worst to first in physical health and spiritual fitness, within 10 years.

Who I'd Like to Inspire

I want to help others become healthier in body, mind and spirit by my efforts and example. To put it in ACIM psychological terms; I also want to make sure I don't deny others the Love I subconsciously believe I don’t deserve.
