I Am

A friend of mine (kmachate) sent me this link 6 months ago, I had a look aroundbut didn't join immediately but a few days or weeks later. I have all of Bill's books and followedthe programme years ago. I decided to join and that day was the start of a challenge, suffering fromhealth problems, and not the best at following routine I didn't followthrough on the challenge.

WHO AM I? Well I don't really know and that's pretty scary to admit. IfI think of life as a jigsaw puzzle then the parts have been sorted intoedges and insides and there are bits of images taking shape.

How'd I get here: As a student I led a predominantly healthy and activelife. Once out in the real world this all stopped, I was ill-equippedreally once I left high school (20 years ago), and have been playingcatch up ever since. Having very few positive influencers in my life, Icaved in to the negativity surrounding me from colleagues and familyand began a spiral of devastating self-saboutage which absorbed mybeing for many years, supported strongly by excessive alcoholconsumption. And with putting friends, family, colleagues, students, etc first, I'd no energy left for me at the end of the day, and felt Igot none from anyone else. Helping people is what I do and I venture tosay who I am, be that good or bad, I want to keep doing that and so Ineed to be at the head of the line.

For the most part I considermyself a recluse but for work. I spent years interacting online withpeople I had met while overseas or people interested in going to thepub to get hammered. So the communication skills for social interactionare rusty and trying to reestablish links with 'real' people isintimidating, I have always been pretty apprehensive of people too, which doesn't help and small talk doesn't come easy. An epiphanyrecently was that I have led a life surrounded by bullies, and I thinkI have then had relationships that reaffirm this behaviour becausethat's all I've known, now I know this I can work to break the cycle.

My focus now is about
- getting healthy and happy
- global health, literacy and numeracy (yes I'm a teacher :) )
- me
- finding out who I am
- building positive and healthy relationships with people
(I thought about reordering this but this is how the thoughts came so to be true they are as is)

To me, Transformation Means

- putting energy into something in order to exhibit a change (ie the life cycle of a butterfly)
- that I've got some challenging times ahead, I have to commit and workto promote changes in my life to give me the life/lifestyle I want
- that behind the curtain there may not be the wizard you expected tosee to help you, but that by believing in yourself you can get to whereyou want to be
